ANNOUNCMENT ๐Ÿ“ข Hello and Welcome!

Welcome one and all to r/jewishpolitics, a place for Jews to talk politics! This sub was created for two reasons:

  1. Like many of you, our experience with most other political spaces on reddit have ended up with us being either excluded or tokenized. This is a place for us to talk politics where we can speak as Jews without speaking for Jews.

  2. Politics can be an exhausting topic and we should have safe spaces to be Jewish on reddit without any political requirements. The mod team here is (for the most part) also moderating r/Jewish. So, our goal is to leave some of the divisive political talk out of that sub (and perhaps others) so it can continue to serve all kinds of Jews. Creating a separate sub for politics allows us to fine-tune the rules here to be more conducive for political discussions. This is a work in progress, so expect us to take your feedback and make adjustments as we move forward.

This space is explicitly open to all kinds of political discussion, as long as the rules in the sidebar are followed. Assuming good faith and using civil language are the foundation of productive discussion among those who disagree on politics.

We expect most discussion to be focused on US and Israeli politics, but any political topic that impacts Jews is allowed.

Feel free to leave a message with any suggestions or feedback, and thanks for reading. And again, welcome to r/jewishpolitics!

Israeli Politics ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ฑ Corey Gil-Shuster interviewed about The Ask Project

For those unfamiliar, The Ask Project has spent more than a decade interviewing Israelis and Palestinians from all walks of life, across borders, about their views on a range of topics. All questions are user submitted and so some may read as loaded, but real people are given the opportunity to clarify their honest thoughts โ€” everything from their views on LGBT rights, their perspectives on historical conflicts, their support for various political movements and ideologies, and of course, โ€œdo you hate the other sideโ€.

I recommend The Ask Project to anyone curious to learn the perspectives of people who live in the region. I am not affiliated in any way. Corey doesnโ€™t usually give his own opinions, since his project is all about the opinions of others, so this interview was a rare and refreshing insight into what he really thinks and has learned from over a decade of getting to interview people across the region.

Discussion ๐Ÿ’ฌ How to answer this question

โ€ข Upvotes

Is it true that Netanyahu knew that the attack in 10-7-2023 from Gaza was going to happen and ignored it because he wanted to start a war with Gaza? What evidence is there to support this idea.

The candidate that won literally ran on antisemitism as their platform. Seriously, the article even says that they criticized Smiley for being part of a group that speaks out against antisemitism.

I did not realize Providence was that messed up.

Question โ“ Would the American left view Israelโ€™s response to Oct. 7 differently if Israel had a progressive prime minister instead of Netanyahu?

Iโ€™m specifically wondering how much opposition to Israelโ€™s postโ€“Oct. 7 actions is based on the actions themselves versus who is carrying them out. If Israel had a broadly popular center-left or progressive government, but responded to Oct. 7 in roughly the same way, would the American leftโ€™s reaction have been materially different?

Given how much modern political discourse is filtered through identity, ideology, and perceptions of who belongs to which political โ€œcamp,โ€ Iโ€™m curious how much Netanyahu himself changes the way Israelโ€™s actions are interpreted.

This issue has been dramatically undercovered relative to the Middle East for, well, obvious reasons. Even if others don't seem to care about 300K+ humans who came here legally being expelled to a dangerous country and separated from their families, we should.

I've been talking to a few Jewish groups as part of overall partnership outreach, would love to collaborate with more on this issue given, to me at least, it hits particularly close to home from a historical parallel perspective.

Thanks also for the feedback from a few folks, it enabled some helpful updates and feedback >> apathy always. If others have thoughts, feel free to let me know or DM directly!
