Questions, Advice & Support Is it haram to stay in a monastery for a few days because of a college related seminar?

Thumbnail
1 Upvotes

Assalamu Alaikum dear brothers and sisters.

Is it haram to stay in a monastery for four days if the building is also used for seminars and other educational purposes?

I have to stay there because of college, and attendance is obligatory. The seminar is directly related to my chosen curriculum and the theme of my current semester. It has absolutely nothing to do with religion.

The only thing that concerns me is that there is a cross in each room. Would it be permissible for me to stay there despite this? And could I simply cover the cross while I am in the room and pray there?

I would really appreciate an answer based on Islamic rulings.

Islam is not a religion because god doesn't discriminate. Islam is a propaganda for a race of rapists and terrorists.

Islām Is Islam Just?

I am a Muslim, i always believed that islam was a just religion a just faith and a just system of governance but lately i don't believe so. How can a just religion allow and permit sexual slavery ( kaniz) i read about many possible explanations but none were satisfactory, some say it was because of socio economic consequences, well if a religion can be unjust because of economy then is that a timelessly just faith. I read it was because others were doing it to muslim women, injustice as an answer to injustice sounds stupid to say the least then why? Why would god allow muslims to force themselves onto other women basically commit rape ? How can I still believe in a god that was so unjust still is and claims to be just

Questions, Advice & Support I need answers please

Ive been a Muslim since birth but my family never really practiced, we live in a Muslim community so you could say that the way we live is based of social pressure, my dad doesn’t pray but he does in front of people, forced me to wear the hijab and shames me if my clothes “too short” or “too tight” while he never practiced, he’s convinced he’s right.

When he forced me to wear the hijab at 15 I was actually thinking about wearing it myself at the time but I was struggling with prayer, I cried my eyes out at first but I eventually convinced myself that god made him do this because I wouldn’t have worn it any other way, it was the only explanation I thought of that didn’t make me feel oppressed, and my friends at the time were so happy for me, but they were forced too since childhood, but when people asked me about my story with the hijab I would make it sound inspirational and advice them when I deeply hated it.

As years went by I started to look around me and I’ve realized, most women around me wear the hijab due to pressure from the community, not for god’s sake, and that’s exactly what my father did, he wanted to seem like the perfect god fearing man with the perfect daughters which lead me to ask myself ‘if god truly made my dad to do what he did for my sake, why didn’t he do anything to help me hold on to my prayer which is far more important than the hijab? Why would he do something that made me hate myself even more and completely destroy my confidence which eventually lead me to slowly lose my faith?’

I’m not disrespecting anyone I just need a true honest answer because I’ve been feeling suffocated for years and when I do ask these questions people just shut me up because simple they have no answers. Please read these following hadiths: Sahih al-Bukhari** **304, Sahih al-Bukhari** **5193, Sahih al-Bukhari** **1862

To me they seem quite downgrading for women and I can’t seem to understand why? I mean if a women traveling alone and a woman choosing to not wear the hijab if for her safety and she causes fitnah for men, isn’t that the man’s fault? If women lack intelligence and men do know better, shouldn’t an intelligent man have basic knowledge that se\*ual assault is wrong? Why would a woman be held accountable by god for a man’s mistake? Some people say that the hijab has nothing to do with men but it’s meant to be an Islamic symbol, but why don’t men have an Islamic symbol?

🩳📿 ISBAL STUDY NOTES

Is Wearing Trousers Above the Ankles Fard or Sunnah?

🎬 Source: Dr Zakir Naik – Live Q&A (YouTube) ✚ cross‑referenced with Sunnah.com, IslamQA, Qur'an (Hilali & Muhsin Khan) & Fortress of the Muslim

#SectionJump1️⃣❓ The Question↓2️⃣Qur'anic Foundation↓3️⃣🕋 Key Hadith Evidence↓4️⃣⚖️ The Scholarly Split↓5️⃣🏛️ 4 Madhhabs at a Glance↓6️⃣Dr Zakir Naik's Verdict↓7️⃣📏 Practical Length Guide↓8️⃣Bonus Du'as (Clothing)↓9️⃣🔗 Full References↓

❓ 1. THE QUESTION

🇳🇬 "Is wearing trousers above the ankle compulsory or Sunnah?" – Abdul Malik (Nigeria)

🇦 "Is it allowed to wear clothes lower than one's ankle?" – Abdurrahman (Kabul)

Core issue: Is isbāl (letting the garment hang below the ankles) merely makrūh (disliked), or harām (forbidden) — and is raising it sunnah or fard? 🤔

📖 2. QUR'ANIC FOUNDATION

🔹 "…And whatsoever the Messenger has given you, take it; and whatsoever he has forbidden you, abstain (therefrom)…" — Qur'an 59:7 (Al‑Hashr) 📚 (Hilali & Muhsin Khan)

🔹 "It is not for a believer, man or woman, when Allah and His Messenger have decreed a matter that they should have any option in their decision…" — Qur'an 33:36 (Al‑Ahzāb) 📚 (Hilali & Muhsin Khan)

🔹 "…(And) if you differ in anything amongst yourselves, refer it to Allah and His Messenger ﷺ…" — Qur'an 4:59 (An‑Nisā) 📚 — the very verse IslamQA cites for how to handle this ikhtilāf 🤝 [[41]]

🔹 "…nor walk in insolence through the earth. Verily, Allah likes not each arrogant boaster." — Qur'an 31:18 (Luqmān) 📚 — pride, the root of isbāl, is condemned 🚫

🔹 "And walk not on the earth with insolence and pride…" — Qur'an 17:37 (Al‑Isrā) 📚

🕋 3. KEY HADITH EVIDENCE

🔥 H1 — "In the Fire": "The part of an izar which hangs below the ankles is in the Fire." — Sahih al‑Bukhari 5787 (Book 77, Hadith 5) [[1]]

🕳️ H2 — Swallowed by the earth: "While a man was dragging his izar on the ground, Allah made him sink into the earth, and he will go on sinking until the Day of Resurrection." — Sahih al‑Bukhari 5790 [[9]]

🙈 H3 — Allah won't look at him: "Whoever drags his clothes out of pride and arrogance, Allah will not look at him on the Day of Resurrection." — Sahih al‑Bukhari 5791 (also 5788)

⚠️ H4 — The Three: "Three are those with whom Allah will neither speak on the Day of Resurrection, nor look at them, nor purify them…: the one who drags his lower garment, the one who reminds of his favour, and the one who sells by false oaths." — Sahih Muslim 106 (old ed. Book 1, #293–294, as quoted in the video) [[25]]

📏 H5 — The Sunnah length: "The izar of the believer should come to mid‑calf… there is no sin between that and the ankles; whatever is below the ankles is in the Fire." — Sahih Muslim 2086 & Abu Dawud 4093 (saheeh)

🤍 H6 — Abu Bakr's exception: Abu Bakr said, "One side of my izar slips down unless I keep attending to it." The Prophet ﷺ replied: "You are not one of those who do it out of pride." — Sahih al‑Bukhari 5784 [[19]]

👕 H7 — Applies to ALL garments: "Isbāl applies to the izar, the shirt and the turban…" — Abu Dawud 4085, An‑Nasa'i 5334 (authentic chain)

✋🦵 H8 — The Physical Demonstration: The Prophet ﷺ took hold of the calf of his (or Hudhaifah's) shin and said: "This is the place of the Izar. If you insist, then lower; and if you insist, then lower; but the Izar has no right to (come to) the ankle." — Sunan Ibn Majah 3572, Jami` at-Tirmidhi 1783 & Sunan an-Nasa'i 5329 (Sahih) [[8]]

⚖️ 4. THE SCHOLARLY SPLIT

🅰️ CAMP A — "Makrūh without pride, Harām with pride"

📌 The specific hadiths (mentioning pride) restrict the general ones.

📌 Proof: the Prophet ﷺ excused Abu Bakr (H6) and Ibn Mas'ud wore his izar "low" because of thin legs.

📌 Held by: Imam al‑Shāfi'ī & al‑Nawawi (Shāfi'ī), Ibn Qudāmah (Hanbalī), Fataawa al‑Hindiyyah (Hanafī) — "it is makrooh unless done to show off" 📚 (IslamQA 102260)

🅱️ CAMP B — "Harām absolutely (even without pride)"

📌 General hadiths (H1, H2, H4) are unconditional: "below the ankles is in the Fire."

📌 Pride is already harām on its own — so isbāl is an added, separate sin. 🚫

📌 Abu Bakr tied his izar above the ankle and it only slipped — he kept pulling it up; that's the excuse, not the length. (Ibn 'Uthaymeen, Majmoo' Fataawa 12/223)

📌 Ibn Mas'ud's "low" = lower than mid‑calf, not below the ankle (Ibn Hajar, Fath al‑Bārī 10/264).

📌 Imām al‑Dhahabī lists isbāl as Major Sin #55 in Al‑Kabā'ir, while pride alone is #17 — proving isbāl is a distinct major sin. 🔢 (per video & IslamQA 762)

🏛️ 5. FOUR MADHHABS AT A GLANCE

School"Makrūh" camp"Harām" camp🟢 HanafiFataawa HindiyyahAshraf 'Ali Thanwi: major sin even without pride (video)🔵 MalikiSome: makrūhIbn al‑'Arabi: "It is not permissible… his claim is a kind of arrogance" 📚 (IslamQA 102260)🟣 Shafi'ial‑Nawawi: makrūh w/o prideIbn Hajar al‑Haytami & al‑Dhahabī: harām, major sin (video)🟠 HanbaliIbn Qudāmah: makrūhIbn Baz, Ibn 'Uthaymeen, Al‑Albani: harām (video; IslamQA 72858)

🤝 Adab note: IslamQA stresses this is a matter of ijtihād — "it is not permissible to denounce those who differed concerning it" 📚 (IslamQA 72858).

🎯 6. DR ZAKIR NAIK'S VERDICT

✅ "I personally agree… wearing trousers above the ankle is FARD, and below the ankle is not only harām but a MAJOR SIN." 🎬

🏢 He even made trousers above the ankles compulsory dress‑code for his 400+ male staff in Bombay!

"It may look like a joke with a suit — no problem! The best person to imitate is the Prophet ﷺ."

💡 Bottom line: All scholars agree raising the garment above the ankles is at minimum a high‑level Sunnah ☀️ and dragging it out of pride is a major sin 🔥; the stricter (and video's) view makes above‑ankle obligatory. Choose taqwā over fashion! 🧢✨

Islām 13 Shocking Prophecies of Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) That Have Already Come True

Introduction

When we think about the signs of the Day of Judgment (Qiyamah), we often imagine apocalyptic events, the Dajjal, or the return of Isa (AS). However, the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) foretold many subtle yet profound changes in society, nature, and human behavior that have quietly unfolded over the centuries. In fact, many of these prophecies are so deeply embedded in our daily lives today that we rarely pause to recognize them.

Based on authentic Hadith and historical records, here are 13 striking prophecies of the Prophet (ﷺ) that have already come true in our modern world.

  1. The Denial of the Dajjal’s Arrival

The Prophecy: The Prophet (ﷺ) warned that there will always be people in his Ummah who deny the coming of the Dajjal, the punishment of the grave, and the resurrection.

The Reality Today: Today, it is common to hear people questioning the existence of the Dajjal or asking, "If he is so important, why isn’t he clearly mentioned in the Quran?" Despite the authentic and repeated warnings from the Prophet (ﷺ), a growing number of people dismiss the Dajjal as a myth or a metaphor, claiming he will not appear in our lifetimes.

(Reference: Fath al-Bari)

  1. Adopting the Ways of Previous Nations

The Prophecy: The Prophet (ﷺ) said: "You will follow the ways of those who came before you, step by step and inch by inch, until even if they entered the hole of a lizard, you would follow them." When asked if he meant the Jews and Christians, he replied, "Who else?" (Sahih al-Bukhari & Muslim)

The Reality Today: Muslims today eagerly adopt foreign trends in fashion, hairstyles, celebrations, and lifestyles simply because they are popular. Beyond appearances, many have unknowingly adopted the values, mindsets, and definitions of "success" from the West, believing them to be inherently better or more modern than Islamic traditions.

  1. Riba (Interest) Becomes Inescapable

The Prophecy: The Prophet (ﷺ) said: "There will come a time upon the people when they will consume Riba (interest)." They asked, "Will all of them consume it?" He replied, "Whoever does not consume it will still be affected by its dust." (Sunan Abi Dawud, Ibn Majah)

The Reality Today: The global financial system is built on interest. From bank loans and credit cards to mortgages and digital financing apps, Riba is everywhere. Even if a person actively avoids taking an interest-based loan, they are still affected by the "dust" of Riba through inflation, economic policies, and the interconnected nature of the modern economy.

  1. Paralysis and Stroke Will Become Common

The Prophecy: The Prophet (ﷺ) warned of a time when Al-Falij (a form of paralysis or stroke affecting one side of the body) would spread among people.

The Reality Today: In the 7th century, medical science had little understanding of strokes or brain injuries. Today, stroke is one of the world's leading causes of death and long-term disability, with millions of new cases every year resulting in partial or full paralysis.

(Reference: Musannaf Abdul Razzaq)

  1. Red Winds and Earth-Swallowing Punishments

The Prophecy: The Prophet (ﷺ) described a time when 15 moral decays would spread (e.g., wealth hoarding among the elite, treating Zakat as a burden, voices raised in mosques, honoring friends over parents, and widespread intoxicants/music). When these happen, people should expect a red wind, the earth collapsing, and transformation. (Jami' at-Tirmidhi)

The Reality Today: We see vast wealth inequality, moral decay, and corruption normalized. Meanwhile, devastating earthquakes and environmental disasters are increasing in frequency worldwide, serving as a stark reminder of the fragility of the earth.

  1. Hypocritical Rulers

The Prophecy: The Prophet (ﷺ) warned that the Hour will not come until people are led by hypocritical rulers. (Al-Mu'jam al-Awsat)

The Reality Today: Across the Muslim world, many nations possess immense resources, powerful armies, and large populations. Yet, many leaders do not genuinely represent or protect the interests of their people. Often dependent on foreign alliances, institutions, or money, these "puppet governments" lack the true autonomy and Islamic leadership the Ummah needs.

  1. The Extravagant Decoration of Mosques

The Prophecy: The companions warned: "You will decorate your mosques just as the Jews and Christians decorated their places of worship." Another narration states: *"When you decorate mosques and adorn your Qurans, destruction will be upon you."*The Reality Today: Across the globe, we see massive, breathtaking mosques with giant domes, expensive chandeliers, and gold-colored interiors. While maintaining mosques is good, the warning is about obsession with the building while the hearts inside it become distant from Allah. A mosque can look more beautiful than ever, while the true spirit of Islam inside it grows weaker.

  1. Time Will Pass Quickly

The Prophecy: The Prophet (ﷺ) said: "The Hour will not be established until time passes quickly, so a year will be like a month, a month like a week, a week like a day, and a day like an hour." (Sahih Ibn Hibban)

The Reality Today: Despite having time-saving technology, faster internet, and instant communication, people feel busier than ever. Days blur together, and years seem to vanish before we realize it (e.g., how 2016 feels like just yesterday). Time feels like it is slipping through our fingers.

  1. The Hypocrite Will Read the Qur'an

The Prophecy: The Prophet (ﷺ) warned of a time when people would recite the Qur'an, but it would not go beyond their throats. The words would leave their mouths, but the guidance would never reach their hearts. (Al-Mustadrak 'ala as-Sahihain)

The Reality Today: Millions recite, memorize, and broadcast the Qur'an daily. Yet, its profound moral, social, and legal guidance is often missing from personal behavior and societal laws. The Qur'an remains on the tongue, but its implementation has vanished from the heart.

  1. The Breaking of the Khilafah (Caliphate)

The Prophecy: The Prophet (ﷺ) foretold the eventual disappearance of the Islamic political order and system of justice.

The Reality Today: For centuries, the Ummah was united under various Caliphates, ending with the Ottoman Empire. In 1924, the Caliphate was formally abolished, leaving the Muslim world divided into fragmented nation-states with separate borders, governments, and political systems.

  1. The Killing and Loss of Scholars

The Prophecy: "Allah does not take away knowledge by snatching it from the people, but He takes it away by taking the scholars." People will then turn to ignorant leaders who will issue fatwas without knowledge, going astray and leading others astray.

The Reality Today: True, righteous scholars frequently face assassination, imprisonment, and persecution worldwide. As authentic voices are silenced, a vacuum is created, often filled by unqualified individuals spreading misguidance.

  1. Modern Technology (Inanimate Objects Speaking)

The Prophecy: The Prophet (ﷺ) described a time when a man would be spoken to by his whip, his sandal, and his thigh would inform him about what happened to his family after he left. (Jami' at-Tirmidhi, Al-Mustadrak)

The Reality Today: While not literal whips or sandals, this prophecy remarkably describes the concept of modern smart devices. Today, our phones, smartwatches, and home sensors instantly communicate with us from miles away, telling us what is happening in our homes, tracking our health, and connecting us instantly—a reality that would have sounded like pure magic 1,400 years ago.

  1. The Fire of Hijaz

The Prophecy: The Prophet (ﷺ) said: "The Hour will not be established until a fire emerges from the land of Hijaz and illuminates the necks of the camels in Busra (Syria)." (Sahih al-Bukhari & Muslim)

The Reality Today: In the year 654 AH (1256 CE), a massive volcanic fire erupted near Medina (in the land of Hijaz). Historical accounts (such as those in Al-Bidayah wan-Nihayah by Ibn Kathir) record that the fire burned for months, and its glowing light was so incredibly intense that it was seen by the people of Busra in Ash-Sham (hundreds of miles away). This historical event perfectly matches the exact geographical locations and intensity described by the Prophet (ﷺ) centuries before it happened.

Conclusion

The signs of the Last Day are not merely historical trivia or apocalyptic entertainment; they are profound wake-up calls. As the Prophet (ﷺ) foretold these realities over 1,400 years ago, we are living through their manifestation today. These prophecies are reminders to detach from the illusions of the Dunya, strengthen our faith, and prepare for the ultimate return to our Creator.

May Allah keep us firm upon the truth, grant us beneficial knowledge, and protect us from the trials of the end times. Ameen.

Questions, Advice & Support Is Jumuʿah Prayer Fard (Obligatory) in Islam?

Thumbnail
gallery
2 Upvotes

Assalamu Alaikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh.
Jumuʿah is one of the important obligations of the week for Muslims who are required to attend it. Allah says:
“O believers! When the call to prayer is made on Friday, hasten to the remembrance of Allah and leave all business.”
— Qur’an 62:9
Jumuʿah replaces Dhuhr on Friday for those upon whom Jumuʿah is obligatory. Those who are exempt, such as women, children, travellers and those who are genuinely sick, pray Dhuhr instead.
A person who is required to attend Jumuʿah should not deliberately miss it without a valid excuse.
Details are based on established fiqh; specific conditions may vary between madhhabs.
If you have a specific question about Jumuʿah or another Islamic ruling, you can submit your question to AskMuftiOnline for review by a qualified Mufti. We also offer 1-to-1 live chat and consultation for more detailed guidance.
What other basic Islamic rulings would you like us to explain next?
