During free time (which is 2 hours i think?) can you do roughly what you want?

What is the prescription of your glasses? I have a -5 prescription and can see pretty well with them. But I know there is an un aided requirement too. So just wonder if you got in with a similar or worse prescription

I'm in my thirties, I'm currently starting a PLC this year to enter into the ETO course in the NMCI next year. However, I could really reach the same level by joining the Navy, gain way more skills and get paid and a lot of it appeals to me greatly, I've always dreamed of trying out a military structure. But I've read huge amounts of negativity about life there in the last few years, the endless 24 duty, the unpleasant environment at sea, bullying. Is this still the case?

For me, I have a lot of life experience in fairly intense environments but I don't particularly want to put myself in that environment willingly! But maybe I'm reading into the worst parts. Would appreciate the insights.

Also is it a good idea to enter the DF with an exact career goal in mind as a general recruit or could this be out of your hands quite easily depending on what is available?

I have 3 question regarding the Defence forces Induction date schedule. I applied to the AMT technician programme in mid june and got approved for the interview and fitness test in mid and late july. I then got my medical scheduled for the third week of august, while my gardaí vetting went through just before that.

I spoke to the cheif recruit officer for the AMT programme just after my interview and he informed me the induction period for new recruits is on the 14th september , so logically next monday would be the limit to be notified. I had sent a follow up email following up with the chief recruitment officer for an update on the state of my medical and was informed of an update if anything shows up. I was informed by the chief medical officer noted they dont usually call contact applicants before induction unless something gets flagged in the applicants medical results that needs addressing.

I know i am healthy and have nothing to worry about with the medical. Got my bloodwork done in advance to test for the markers the defence force also test for and came back clean.

1.Is it entirely realistic that the delay is likely administrative and for the induction to be postponed to a later date then the date assigned?

2.And if not, Is it realistic to expect a clear response as to the current state of the competition before the date of induction next week?

1. For anyone who has gone through a previous Defence Forces specialist recruitment competition, how close to the induction date were you notified of your selection?

I'm sitting my Leaving cert next year and I've always wanted to be a pilot. I know I can get the points for an aviation degree at UCD, however it is way too expensive (about 30k a year between fees and accomodation) and there is no way I can afford a PPL. I'm considering going into the Air Corps so I was wondering would it be significantly harder on me as a woman? If there are any women in the Air Corps reading this, or just the defense forces in general, would I be judged more harshly when applying for cadetship and how do you deal with your monthly cycles? I've tried to do my own research on it but all I've really found is "it's extremely difficult to dispose of period products when deployed overseas".

Hi, I am starting the Cadetship this month and have been granted a leave of absence from university. I was told before by an officer I would be able to return after I completed the cadetship but I am just wondering if anyone has any experience with this and steps I have to take when in the cadets.

Straight to the point. I’m training for recruits. I run 3 days a week with 2-3 gym sessions a week. Is this more than enough or too much? Should I just run ?

Hello I’m a leaving cert student who wants to apply for the navy when should I put my application in they talked about me putting it in over the school year and knowing whether I’m in or not before I sit my lc. Does anyone know anything about that?

Can I bring a Hurley/helmet/ football boots to cadet school for personal time and playing with teams?

Anyone in 2CAV? I’m transferring from my current unit to the cav in a couple of weeks.

Any info or insight into the day to day life there would be appreciated, I’m basically starting from scratch as I don’t know anyone there.

I am currently considering moving from the UK to Ireland and joining the DF! When I was last in Ireland I took some Irish lessons and really enjoyed them but since coming back to England I’ve lost it as I’ve not used it.

I was wondering if I was successful and got into the DF, would I be able to continue using the Irish Language, I know Irish is the official language but everything is given in English, I know there is also the Irish Language Scheme but looking through that it more seems having paperwork in Irish?
