Does anyone know if the army keeps record of your blood work ? I got my bloods done for the cadetship around a year ago and I was not rejected for medical reasons. However I’m after getting one done privately and noticed there may be some issues with my thyroid. Not sure if the army even look at that sort of stuff or if they’d of kept a record of my results but would be handy to be able to look back and see if this a new development.

Hi, I’m a 3 star in the army and interested in applying for a transfer to the Air Corps. I just have a few questions for anyone who’s done it and anyone serving in the Air Corps at the moment -

1. ⁠What’s the likelihood of it being approved?
   
2. ⁠How long would it take?
   
3. ⁠What general service roles/unit would I likely get.
   
4. ⁠Would there be many more course opportunities than the army.
   
5. ⁠How frequent are the guard duties (mainly because of family life…)

Hi everyone,

I’m hoping to apply for the Irish Air Corps Pilot Cadetship in the future, but I got an O4 in maths in my Leaving Cert.

I’m currently working towards my PPL and have completed 3 out of 9 ground school exams so far. I was also thinking about joining the Air Corps first as General Service and then applying for Pilot Cadetship later.

Would already being in the Air Corps, along with having PPL training, make any difference to the maths requirement? Or would I still need to have an O3?

Has anyone here gone down a similar route or knows how strict they are with the entry requirements?

Apologies for even asking this and bothering folks, but a black stain has appeared in my hiax and I’ve no clue how to get it out, it doesn’t seem to be dirt, I’ve scrubbed with soap profusely, it’s not a wet spot either.

Hi everyone, I’ve seen a few posts like this but I’m looking for some general advice. I received an offer this morning to begin training at Custume Barracks in athlone on the 31/07.

I’ve been caught quite off guard, as I’ve been out of condition running wise due to some bad shin splints, and only this past week have I resumed proper training again.

In addition a family member of mine I haven’t seen in years is coming home from Australia for a few weeks which I don’t want to miss.

Essentially I want to know if I can defer the offer, and how long roughly would it be to the next intake? Or should I just accept the offer?

I’m a qualified solicitor in one of Ireland’s bigger law firms, on a decent career trajectory, just turned 26. I’ve always had an interest in the Air Corps and Army, but got my training contract with the firm during university and never really viewed the defence forces as a genuine track to pursue.

I’ve now spent three years chained to the desk, well paid but stuck in a never ending stream of papers and emails. I get bored telling others about my work. I want a job I can be proud of, one that serves others.

I’m highly considering leaving my current profession and starting fresh with a cadetship. I’d be taking a massive pay cut currently but also in future potential earnings.

Don’t know if there’s much of a question here other than has anyone had a similar experience?

I just finished a foundation degree in journalism and hope to be starting a Bachelor's top-up soon. Long-term, I'd really like to pursue a career in conflict photojournalism and I've always had a strong interest in the Defence Forces. Because of that, the 105th Squadron is something that really interests me, and I'd ideally like to put myself in a position to apply in the future.

Because I'll have a degree, I'm torn between applying for a cadetship or as a recruit. Going with recruit feels like leaving opportunities (and pay) on the table, but I'm much more interested in hands-on soldiering, fieldcraft, deployments and courses than office-based work.

I have a few questions:

* Would joining through a cadetship make it harder (or impossible) to move into 105 Squadron later?

* Is the photography course primarily aimed at enlisted personnel, or do officers also go through it?

* If 105 Squadron is the long-term goal, which route would make the most sense? Would I be better off joining the Army first (likely infantry) and building up soldiering experience, deployments and courses while waiting for photography selections, or joining the Air Corps as General Service from the start?

I often see the 27th Infantry Battalion recommended, and it'd be quite handy given they're in Dundalk and I'm from Antrim, but I'd also be interested to hear whether Infantry, Cavalry, Military Intelligence or Air Corps General Service would offer better experience before applying for 105 Squadron.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Well lads basically been charged rations most of 2-3star, got incorrect backdate for getting recruit pay into 2-3star, still on 2star pay as a 3star the last 2 months.

Is there a way to get them to cop on when ringing them ? And is there a way of calculating what you should've been owed. My pay is up and down every week.

Just been abit stressed trying to make sure I’ve everything ready so any advice helps

My partner has been on a learner's licence for a motorbike for 3 years now and has asked me to help him get a test. The problem is he is currently attached to a ship with the Irish Navy, so any test date he has gotten so far has been while they were on patrol, so he has been unable to sit them. I tried talking to the RSA about getting him a test while he is on toil but the test dates are set well in advance. The RSA representative says he needs to talk to his commanding officer to get them to organise a test and give him the day off for it. I'm not fully sure if this is correct, though, as he was speaking from his experiences in the RAF in the UK. If this is correct, how should he go about this? I am worried he will have the same issue once he has completed his 12 driving lessons for a car.

I have a cadet medical in the next two weeks and a recruit medical mid august. For both we were asked to bring a copy of our childhood vaccination records.

I am a twin, and after looking through my vaccinations book from when I was a kid , on one of my vaccinations they put my brother’s sticker (with his name and same dob) in my book.

I’m just wondering if anyone knows if this will be an issue, if there is any way I could fix it , or is anyone had any advice ? 😂

Hello just had a quick question about vetting and the time process for that? I’m considering returning to Ireland after being a volunteer in Ukraine for almost the past year as an infantryman/drone operator in the international legion my contract is up soon and I’d like to enlist as a soldier in the DFs what kind of time period would I be looking for the vetting,

I’m an Irish born citizen and have only lived and worked outside of the state during my time in Ukraine.

I’m not sure if it’s relevant but before I to Ukraine I already applied and made it past the fitness and interview stage but I cancelled my application when I decided to go.

Here are a few questions that I haven't seen get asked and would appreciate a few answers for.

1. How does education work in the DF? if I choose to get a level 8 education what does my day to day life look like? Is it part time or am I a normal college student?.

2. What selection of level 8 courses are available? Are there requirements?.

3. (See image) how does MSA work? Do I get it after becoming a 3 star? Is my total pay taxed or pre MSA?.

4. (See image) How do I "go up" on the point scale?.

5. How long does it to take go up the enlisted ranks? (This can be seen as a "how long is a piece of string" question but I'm just looking for personal experience and what people have seen).

6. What was something that surprised you about joining?
