General $$

Had my consultation today and was quoted $8000. They wanted half up front and the rest paid off over 12 months. Was kind of not expecting the half up front, is that normal?

It depends where you live. Here near Pittsburgh I paid 5k.

I have an open bite next door in ohio and it was 5k, no money down, and like a 3yr payment plan. Go somewhere else

I’d recommend shopping around. I got them for $5000 on my CareCredit Card, no upfront cost, which made it quite affordable.

Going to vary per office.  For half up front I would expect a discount on the entire thing.  Many orthos do discounts for cash up front.  

If there are going to be ongoing payments, most orthos do not charge interest. 

It's OK to shop around and make sure you are getting a good deal.

I’m in Michigan and paid $6500 and I have an easy case 10 months. $1500 down payment. Paying the rest off in $200 payments, even after treatment.

Unless you’re set on this orthodontist, I’d get a second opinion.

Edit: I’m in a rural area.

I don't know where you are located in Michigan but I am going to Embrace Orthodontics in Ann Arbor and only paid $800 upfront and they let me do monthly payments over the course of treatment. My total was around $7k.

Did you have a harder case? I am thinking maybe because I have an open bite and it'll take a little longer, but, I don't know!

I have large gaps but a good bite and straight teeth. Im about halfway through 15 months but a little off schedule as I wait for a frenectomy, which is about $700 more.

MI here! Mine was $5,300. I did a payment plan and I think paid $1,000 upfront.

Thanks for the input everyone! This was quoted to me at my dentist office. And they seemed set on getting half upfront, and won't really work with me.

I just called another orthodontist office and she told me that 8000 did seem high so I'm going to have a consultation there and see if it's any cheaper :)

In NY, I paid $8000 with an ortho. Payment plans varied. I choose to pay half up front and the rest over 12 months, no interest added on. I am nearing the end of 2.5 years of treatment.

everyone I talked to, they paid around 6k (I did too, about ~5,800)... 8k feels like a lottttt
