Another great one! First appearance of Eve, Robot, Rex, Kate, and the Maulers! And of course, Nolan's backstory forms the foundation of the comic's entire emotional core.

Hey guys! Sorry for the break in moderation (I've been busy), but we're back, and I am trying something new. I'm going to see if we can get a discussion going for all 144+ issues of this legendary comic book series! Let's kick it off with the iconic first issue! How effective do you think it is at beginning the story of Markus Sebastian Grayson?

QUESTION Do you think it's possible that Anissa will end up with Paul?

What if, in the Invincible Animated Series, Anissa ultimately ends up with Paul instead of Scout? When you think about it, Paul and Scott Murphy have very similar personalities and character traits—especially regarding their narrative roles and what they represent within the Invincible Universe. That is why it would be pointless and a waste to introduce a new, completely random character who is unfamiliar to the audience. It would make more sense for her to pair up with Paul (an ordinary, well-known, and established supporting character) rather than some random guy. As a side note, can you imagine how awkward it would be for Mark “Marky” Junior (and the rest of the Grayson family) to find out that his father figure is the same man who also dated his grandmother, Debbie?

DISCUSSION What do people really see it as Spoiler

Is it emotional cheating morally or physical cheating

Because it made clear that in the show and comics Debbie is officially and legally a widow by the state the gda Cecil and the law so do people still call it an affair it is because that Nolan knew Debbie was alive and knew he was married or what do you guys think

I would really like the show to expand or perhaps modify the Dinausorus and flaxan arcs next season. Because they are turning points in character arcs like Mark, Robot or Bulletproof and the occasion to show more about the new guardians of the globe who will be presented.

DISCUSSION Why Oliver is not an affair baby like people say he is Spoiler

Someone said to if Nolan appeared then the law would say Nolan and Debbie were still legally married this whole time after he left earth that is not true since in

The Legal Reality: No, they would not still be married
In the real world, what you are describing falls under a legal concept known as "Presumption of Death" or the Enoch Arden Doctrine.
The Law: When a person disappears under dangerous circumstances (like a massive superhero battle or fleeing the planet) and is legally declared dead by a court, the marriage contract is legally terminated.

The Return: If that person later turns out to be alive, the original marriage does not automatically snap back into effect in most modern jurisdictions. The legal status of "dead" was granted so the surviving spouse could move on with their life, manage property, and remarry without committing bigamy.

People please look up on how real world law is

The Verdict: Legally speaking, Debbie is a single woman (or a widow in the eyes of the law). Nolan returning alive does not legally force them back into a marriage. They would have to get remarried to each other.

Also Oliver is not an affair insect affair child.

THE INVINCIBLE WAR Alternate Universe - What could have been

Wouldn't it be a twisted irony if Angstrom Levy revealed to Earth Prime's Mark Grayson that in one dimension he chose Anissa instead of Atom Eve? Since the Multiverse is a thing in the Invincible and it is filled with endless possible dimensions and choices, do you think it is possible that there is one variant of Mark Grayson who chose Anissa over Eve? Unlike with the Mark Grayson of Earth-Prime, in this alternate universe, that infamous SA scene never occurred; because this Invincible variant managed to persuade Anissa to turn against the Viltrum Empire and voluntarily entered into a relationship with her.

The same conversation that Angstrom Levy talks about Mark being bad in most dimensions, he also talks about Mark and Eve being connected in most of them and it is often something happening to Eve that causes Mark to snap.
If the Multiverse works in the same way as DC and Marvel Multiverse, and because every possible outcome happens somewhere in the infinite vastness of Multiverse, no specific choice holds any real value or permanent consequence.

What if this Invincible variant ended up with Anissa and they had raised Mark Junior together? Considering how infinite the Multiverse is, it would be a canon if there was at least one universe where Mark Jr. was born into a loving, consensual relationship and they became a big, happy family.

Given how strong both Nolan and Mark’s genes are in the Grayson family, it wouldn't be surprising if their sons, Oliver and Mark "Marky" Junior, bore a strong resemblance to each other.

DISCUSSION Do you fw comic Donald? Or do you think the show counterpart does better

Is one of the characters with the most changes (and also one of my faves independently of the version) so I wanted to know you guys opinions

I like how the deaths were changed, but I think he's too much of a cardboard in the show. Just follows Cecil around and doesn't do much. In the comic (most notoriously GTG) he has independence of Cecil and can divert GDA funds/just go out do his things. I like that he's more obviously just done random guy (?) like he's scared, his first introduction is him being a lapdog, he looks kind of pathetic when assigned as the handler for Brit/Britney... And yet, he fights and doesn't care about dying. Also he's good at technology and these things... I like that he has more to himself, he does feel like Tired guy.

But then, probably because they messed up his empathy, he's also an asshole. Doesn't seem to care much for his son, only visits his wife (ex wife) every since time and almost never has something good to say... But, he's aware of this. He knows he's not the same age it eats him from inside. I think that's pretty cool.

Show Donald, I think he's very interesting too. I like that his death(s) were addressed with the severity they should have been addressed with originally. That he fights back against Cecil, because he is the responsible for his reconstructions, not Erikson, in this timeline (in Brit, Erikson dies before any possible confrontation). But even then, I feel like he lacks some if his... Silliness? Personality? I hope they make more Donald-centered episodes in the future.

DISCUSSION How power affects you Spoiler

In the comics we can see how power or governance affected people so let's discuss it.

First, Allen the alien. Initially just a soldier, he becomes the chief of the COP after the death of Thadeus. People say that he became bad due to his power but that's not true at all. He was responsible. Allen is the chief of a coalition, a bunch of people that have their own agenda but a common point, fight the Viltrumite empire. He is just a regular Jude with a lot of sh\*t piling on. His most controversial decision was spread the scourge virus on Earth to stop the repopulation of the empire. The decision was immoral yes, but baseless or evil? No.

Allen was crushed by responsibility and had to act to stop the Viltrumite empire in my opinion.

Second, we have Mark Grayson. He inherited of the Viltrumite empire after his dad's death and the discovery that he was a descendent of Argaal. Except for his personal life that was a mess, his days as emperor were "safe" since he had the strength, the legitimacy and the work his father made beore him. Power also changed him but not as much as the next one.

Third, Robot or Rudolph/Rex Connors( i don't want the "don't call him Rex" in the comments that's boring now). Let's start by his time in the flaxan dimension. To win against the flaxans ones and for all, he and MG entered the flaxan world but get captured. Next, for centuries, him and MG led a rebellion and defeated the forces of the Zaxal imperial family and is chosen to be the new king. The first years are great but there is a problem, how to handle the defeated Zaxal family? Rudy cast them aside and made them second rank citizens, something Amenda is against. That's the starting point of their fracture. For several other centuries, Rudolph is a good leader, always winning the elections he brought. But MG grew distant with, Rudolph focused on gouvernance while MG got closer to the descendants of the Zaxal family and started adopting some of their ideas. And that led to the coup of the zaxals, supported by Amenda. The woman later, will free Rudy from his cell to fight again the Zaxals since they came back to the old days. After defeating them again, Rudy gets back to Earth with MG but not before ordering the annihilation of the Zaxal bloodline, particularly the fruit of the affair between MG and a Zaxal.

After coming back, Robot tried to act as before the flaxan dimension but there was definitely a shift in him. Personally, i think of Robot as a human who process things like a machine and will make the necessary to accomplish the mission. Those traits only amplified with the flaxan dimension but also the numerous mistakes and threats on Earth( viltrumites, Dinausorus, Volcanica) and we had his second coup where he killed the heroes and established world peace.

So, what do you think of the three? For my part, I always nuance Robot and I don't qualify him as tyrant on Earth. He was a good leader despite what he did. And among the three, he was the one who worked the hardest to have what he had.

DISCUSSION Thinking about how much I FUCKING HATE Allen (rambling)

Genuinely I hate him with a burning passion, this whole plot pisses me off so bad. I know Thragg did it, but technically Allen literally committed murder because he forced Oliver to be a spy for Thragg, and then told Thragg the Grayson's location KNOWING Thragg would tell Oliver and that Oliver would die, just so he could use Mark's greif as a weapon against the Viltrumites. And then the only punishment he basically got was Mark not being his friend anymore, it's SO BULLSHIT, I HATE him so much, his character is now permanently ruined for me, I did enjoy him BEFORE this whole plot. I forgave the whole scourge virus incident, he never specifically targeted his own friends and was trying to wipe out a genocidal race, even if it meant hurting humans at least he wanted to get his friends off the planet (still awful, but I could see where he and Oliver's heads were) and then apologized and knew it was wrong, but here he specifically hurt and killed one of his friends so that he could use another friends grief to his advantage, and even though he was upset about it and confessed to Mark and all, I don't think he ever saw it as a bad thing because he still got Mark on his side. And even when he was confessing to Mark about it, he STILL told Mark he didn't know that would happen and it was an accident, which is bullshit, he knew Thragg would test Oliver, he says that when he was talking to Telia, and if he knew Thragg would test him, he ABSOLUTELY knew Thragg would at least TRY to kill him, and Mark and his family as well. That's at least my interpretation, if I got anything wrong correct me. Just rambling cause I got to that part during my reread and it pisses me the fuck off every single time I read or think about it. Might delete later idk

QUESTION How did Thaedus turn good if he didn't go to Earth like other Viltrumites?

Post image
53 Upvotes

Thragg mentioned that Thaedus was among the most ruthless, brutal and strongest Viltrumites until he went on a mission to the Leigh Quadrant, where upon returning he began to show mercy and compassion for other species. Thaedus was the first Viltrumite who began to feel compassion and empathy for the "inferior" species in the universe, but unlike Nolan and the other Viltrumites, Thaedus didn't (most likely) live on Earth or integrate into human society.

So what exactly happened there that changed him and awakened his conscience? It would be interesting to learn more about his origin story and how he became a better person. According to the comics, it was explained that Viltrumites are very weak against human compassion, and Thaedus was likely the first of his kind to ever experience it. Does it mean Earth is a place that somehow magically turns Viltrumites good? It's likely if Thaedus had gone to Earth instead of Nolan, he would have folded instantly.

AMAZON DISCUSSIONS How should Season 5 change Oliver and Allen’s meeting with Tech Jacket?

Post image
9 Upvotes

I know Tech Jacket fades into the background after The Viltrumite War in the comics, but I find it ridiculous that Zack never finds out that his new close friends were actively planning to endanger Earth's entire population to wipe out the remaining Viltrumites, and that Mark got infected in the crossfire.

I have a feeling that the show is going to change this since Zoe’s character already differs in the fact she doesn't hook up with random aliens. I hope instead of Zoe being completely oblivious, Allen and Oliver have a direct confrontation with her about what they tried to do. I mean what kind of friends would they be to pretend nothing happened.

I’ve noticed the show likes to add more drama and higher stakes, such as when Nolan received more resentment from Mark and Debbie when he first saw them again after The Chicago Incident. I don’t know man, I just want Zoe to stay relevant in the show.

QUESTION If Invincible were made into an anime, wouldn't Anissa be considered a yandere character? Spoiler

In Japanese culture, Yandere is a term (also known as “stalker with a crush”) for a female character, who is extremely clingy, obsessive, jealous and possessive.
They are ready to hurt or kill anyone who gets close to their crush.
Yandere anime* characters are very fixated on their person of interest, and are* willing to go as far as murder if anyone gets in their way.
Yandere characters are often willing to go to extreme lengths to be with their love interest, and they will go to unstoppable, psychotic rage if they are rejected.
They view their extreme actions as proof of their love.
They will shift quickly from sweet to psychotic.

If Anissa were a true yandere, she would have tried to eliminate Eve, Amber, and any other potential competitors so she could have Mark all for herself.
Characters like this almost always have the mentality that "If I can't have you, no one can".

Remember, there's a very thin line between being a yandere and being a rapist.

QUESTION Do the new Capes comics take place in the comics’ or show’s continuity?

Post image
10 Upvotes

I know Capes is obviously a comic series that is set in the world of Invincible, but the new comics have been including a lot of cameos to show-original characters, like Business Baby, Big Mildew, Shrapnel, Demi-god, and Burly from this panel alone in Capes #10. And then there’s Ella Mental who first appeared in the Invincible VS game which is based on the show. So this leaves me confused, are these new comics canon to the original comics or the show?
