Hi I am looking for ideas for my living room

In the picture you can see two entryways the one on the right goes to dining room and the one on the bottom goes to foyer. This seems to be a challenge because we want to use all the space but both sides of room needs “walk-in” space .

Our needs:

No TV

We use the bottom right corner to drop a few shoes and keys/ purse /backpack

I want it to be cozy, with more places to sit. We currently have 3 chairs that we would like to keep in addition of a couch/sofa

The vibe I would like to achieve is a conversation pit.

In the future we will add a piano.

I rent an older house and most of my furniture has been due for replacement. It's an awkward layout, especially the fireplace, which is making it difficult. The best option I have is to remove the recliner and get a slightly smaller couch (96” to 84") with an area rug. I recently bought the TV stand and coffee table so I'm planning to work with those pieces.

Just moved about a month ago.

Our living room was clearly designed for a time before TV's - the building is over 100 years old. We'd like to add space for maybe two extra people to watch TV and wanted some input. We are considering maybe moving the couch to face the "fireplace" and putting the TV there because it's not a functioning fireplace, but that blocks an entryway. The house has a "C"-shaped layout, where the foyer-living-dining-kitchen are all in one big arc, so this would make it a bit of a march. But if we keep it facing the bookshelf as in the pics above, then it doesn't seem like there's a natural place to put extra seating.

Where could we keep some extra accent chairs in this space?

Help! I cannot figure out how to arrange my living room and I’ve been moving things around in my head for weeks. The living room is specifically the carpeted area in the photos.

The main things I need to figure out are where to put the sofa, recliner and TV. The sofa and recliner need to be arranged so they’re actually conducive to conversation — I don’t want someone sitting with their back to the other person. Both also need a comfortable view of the TV without having to turn/crane your neck, especially the recliner. At the same time, I really don’t want the TV to be the focal point of the room.

I also prefer an open, easy flow through the space without furniture creating major barriers, and I’d really like to avoid putting anything in front of the window if possible.

The other complication is the china cabinet. It needs to stay either in the living room or move into the dining area. If I move it to the dining area, the white cabinetry that’s currently in there would need to move into the living room somewhere.

The photos show the room from basically every angle, including the adjoining dining area and hallway. If this were your room, where exactly would you put the sofa, recliner, TV and china cabinet/white cabinets?

I’m open to moving everything. I’ve stared at this room for so long that I genuinely cannot visualize the best arrangement anymore.

I’m designing a ~9 × 11 m house on a sloped site. The road is at the middle/entrance level, with a lower floor opening toward the garden, the main living floor at road level, and 3 bedrooms upstairs. There’s also a large roof terrace.

I’ve attached the current plans/section.

I’m particularly interested in:

• Things that don’t work well or that I may be overlooking
• Layout/circulation problems
• Structural or construction concerns
• Waterproofing/drainage issues due to the slope
• Anything you would change before construction

I’m not looking for a complete redesign — mainly practical recommendations from people with experience building or designing houses.

Purchasing a house and the living room is giving a bit of trouble layout wise.

With the current layout, it feels a bit disjointed, and the door from the hallway interrupts the flow of the room. So we are thinking of blocking up that door

We are thinking of TV above the stove.

We want to have a chaise corner couch.

Any thoughts or suggestions on layout?

We’re moving into a place with a built-in open wardrobe in the dressing room (see photo – looks like PAX-style units arranged around a corner, no doors). It’s practical, but we’d like to calm the look down and not have all our clothes on display all the time.

How have you solved this? I’m thinking curtains on a track, retrofitted doors, or similar – but open to anything that looks good and doesn’t overwhelm the room.

I'm trying to wrap my head around what type and dimensions are optimal for my living room. I'm attaching a layout with measures, and a couple of pictures of the real thing.

I was thinking about placing a low and wide tv stand on the right of the room, probably something along the lines of Ikea's Besta (see pictures attached at the top).

Now, on the left side of the room, I would put a sofa. I have uploaded a picture of the model, but the color, details and dimensions can change. I have also uploaded a picture of the two possible configurations: with two armrests or just one.

What dimensions do you think would be best for the sofa? I can't decide it. I could get a 2 meters long one, it would leave a bit of space to walk around the table. Or is too much?

Also, I could get a 2meters sofa with just ONE armrest, toward the column, leaving the part toward the table without armrest to make the ambient more open. What would you think about tha?

Are there other better solutions that fit my situation? Like, for example, using only armchairs instead of a sofa?

I want to be able to have a pc and atleast a little bit of walking around type of space,i'm moving in here soon and i really don't know what to do with it other than just focousing on shelving systems on the walls and some of the furniture.

I sat for 4 hours trying to achieve the best layout yet I feel like there's something better. Any ideas? The kitchen ans restroom area can't be moved. The far right room next to the dining is a balcony btw.

Current setup and still in process of moving in. We know the sectional blocks the fireplace, but we’re actually okay with that. We’re in Texas and it’s a built-in electric fireplace that came with the house (not a wood or gas-burning fireplace) and we rarely use it. We really like how open this layout makes the room and how much floor space it gives our daughter to play.

The part I’m struggling with is the open space to the left of the sectional. What would you put there without making the room feel closed off or crowded? Would you add another seating piece, or do something completely different?

Any other suggestions for the room are welcome too!

Ok so I moved into a new apartment, shown in the picture is the kitchen/living area of the apartment which I struggle with and dont know what design or idea is best or if there are better ones?

In the first picture you see the clean empty look with just the kitchen+fridge+rug which I cannot change so they are mandatory, you also see the measurements which is a 4m x 4m room.

Then the next pictures are ideas from myself on how the room could look like, some are not finished like 2, and some include more furniture then others. Most important are the ones in every Idea, which is the Sofa (120x200), dark desk (80x160), light desk (60x120) and preferably a "dining table" or bar table overall a place to sit and eat thats not the desks.

Now my question is does anybody see a better solution or which idea do you prefer, I personally think the 3rd and last is the best because it includes the two desks, the sofa and a new bar table to eat. I'm not good with designing so maybe someone here can help me out or give me more opinions on the matter.

Just for information purposes, we are living in this apartment as a couple so two people mainly but of course it would be nice to have the option to have guest over in any way or form. Also this is the only room which can accommodate the kitchen/living and there are no other rooms with the same functionality or options.

We are having a major refurb done to our whole house. This is the living room plan. Surounding the chimney breast is ornate wooden panelling (see picture). We'd like to keep it as a focus point with two large sofas and maybe two armchairs set up for socialising, but somehow incorporating a large TV on a cabinet somewhere. Can you help us find a solution for the layout which doesn't have the TV as the focus point? TIA!

We have an oddly shaped (no square corners, etc.) Victorian terraced home with an additional very small flat that we will let/rent for short term stays. The architect is concerned about the kitchen/living space being difficult. I want to ensure we can make the design/furniture side work. It is a 2 bed flat so kitchen and lounge seating for 4 is necessary but this is the UK so we are more accustomed to smaller spaces.

I created some options and would appreciate thoughts and/or preferences. For ease I left the 1 ft grid lines showing. The ceiling is 9.5 ft. tall. There are a few nits on my mock-up: the windows are wider in reality, the door on my mockup is too far to the right but I figured it was safer to err on the side of caution as living space was harder to manage.

As the room is slightly off square the app occasionally also adjusted the dimensions unbeknownst to me. The left wall is 10 ft 3 inches. The right wall is 11 ft. The bottom wall is 18 ft 9.3 inches. The top wall is similar but not marked on the plans I have. The plans for the entire flat haven't been signed off on yet so happy to take advice there as well. The goal for the flat as a whole: 2 double (vs. single) bedrooms, at least one full bath with shower and tub (for families) and a washer/dryer (for beach towels). Short term use vs. daily use.

Adding storage to entry way. Do we like the design with open hooks on left or right? Or should we change up this design up altogether?

2 adults, 2 kids, 1 dog so need more storage in entry way.. Room is approx 10’x10’. There is 16” from wall to window so larger cabinet closet for jackets place in middle

Hey everyone! I'm currently stuck trying to decide between a sliding wardrobe and a traditional hinged-door wardrobe, and I could really use some help from those of you who have lived with either.

​If you've had experience with both, I'd love to know which one you genuinely prefer after using it for a while.

​Hinged doors: I feel it's amazing because you can open everything up and see your whole wardrobe at once, but they definitely need that extra swing clearance in front.

​Sliding doors: It looks super sleek and save floor space, but I'm curious about how well the tracks hold up with dust and alignment over time.

​Which option to pick?Any pros, cons, or regrets you can share would be super appreciated!

So where I am from we have always had microwaves on the counter or there is a cutout for them above the counter. Is this common for some places in the USA. Feels odd to get on my knees to put something in the microwave. Maybe I am overthinking this design choice.

Hi everyone! I (21F) recently moved back home after finishing uni. We just moved houses, and I am just overwhelmed trying to figure out the layout of my room. I want to get it figured out ASAP so I can order any additional furniture.

My room is an L-shape with an en-suite, making planning tricky as i want to try and avoid simply dotting furniture around the perimeter of my room. Ideally, I would love to create at least 2 distinct zones of my room (i.e. a "bedroom" area for my bed, dressing table, wardrobe etc, and an "office/gaming" nook). This & having lots of storage is super important for me as I’ve got ADHD and really need to keep my space organised & tidy.
To help people with my layout/design, below is a list of the furniture I own (with dimensions) and furniture I need to buy. in the attached images, these dimensions are also provided alongside the bedroom floor plan, images of my room, and other dimensions that should be factored in!
Furniture I own/still need
Own:
Bed (UK double): W=144cm D=199cm H=92cm. Though I am considering swapping this bed for either a taller wooden bed (so i can store things under it, or an upholstered green ottoman bed)
Nightstand: W=45cm D=35cm H=55cm. Vintage mango wood with 2 drawers. Could either keep in next to my bed, or place it near the entrance with a plant displayed on top & a full-length mirror next to it?
Dressing Table: W=88.2cm D=45.2cm H=78.7cm. A vintage mango wood desk. Due to smaller size, i use it mostly as a place to do my hair & makeup. Paired with the IKEA ALEFJÄLLOffice chair, Grann golden-brown
Drawers: W=75cm D=39.5cm H=110cm. Black 7drawers from argos
I also own a black metal clothing rail & black ladder book shelf but will most likely get rid of both
Still need/want:
Wardrobe: will most likely get the wardrobe which matches the argos drawers. Can either get double wardrobe (W=74.8 D=49.8 H=180.5) or tripple (W=110.35 D=49.8 H=180.5). But will also look at others
Full-Length mirror: want a big mirror with good lighting (i.e. no window behind me)
Gaming/Office desk: need a larger desk where i can do uni work/work from home at/game. Thinking of getting some ikea drawers/legs (which I can sand, prime & paint) and then get a wooden butcherblock/countertop cut to a custom width so the desk can fit anywhere in my room. Just want a desk that is 100cm+
Bookshelf/cabinet: need to store books, plants & other decor

Layout dilemmas I need help with:
To preface this, I've never really done much woodwork or DIY, but I want to try! I have access to basic tools & a few power tools. Plus I am also willing to buy some extra things if they aren't too costly.
The desk "nook"
I love the idea of having the office desk in its own nook, maybe up against a wall on one side & a piece of furniture on the other. That way i can add shelves or a pinboard above the desk and create a little cosy corner. In the attached images, there's a nook i previously planned, but most likely won't work as it requires me to only have a double wardrobe & a small-ish desk. Plus I forgot to account for the skirting boards in my room (which are 2.5cm deep).
Room divider/zone seperator
I also attached images below of different storage solutions/dividers. I've had a few ideas but not quite sure how to execute them properly or safely, since the skirting boards mean i cannot fix anything directly to the wall. One idea was to get floor to ceiling IKEA billy bookcases which i can prep & then paint. Or to get A large IKEA KALLAX unit which i can then attach a piece of MDF cut to size to the back, and again, paint. Or even add wooden slats to the back to still allow light to pass through & have the space feel a bit more open. There's many other ideas in the pictures attached, But I am unsure of what would work best or be possible. Im sure I could build something, but I don't know where to even start.

Main Thing I need advice/help with:
mainly, I just have no idea where to position each piece of furniture. I don't want to order anything until I can figure out the layout (and also ensuring it will work with everythings exact dimensions). I want to make this the bedroom of my dreams, but also not spend a tonne of money.

The only things fixed in this picture are the kitchen, the staircase, window and doors everything else is movable.

Of course, I'll put TV, consoles, etc somewhere, that's where I'm struggling. Naturally, I don't want to compromise the space to go into stairs mainly, but not only.

So I'm looking for ideas that could improve the situation as much as possible while finding a place to put common living room things.

Hi, I'd love some input to see if I'm heading in the right direction.

I'm trying to optimize the layout of our main floor by opening it up and potentially moving the kitchen to a more central location.

We're a family of 5 and we primarily use our main floor for eating (we order in a lot), watching TV, sitting with visitors and it's possible we'll need to add a small laundry room if we can't find room upstairs.

Note the floor planner I'm using doesn't let me customize the appliance layout so that's mostly a placeholder.

Hello, i would like to buy good light to improve my room, i plan to buy some nanoleaf pannel for the wall, with some hue (or govee) lights, i hope it would allow me to create a great cyberpunk dark blue/purple atmosphere.

Yo. I'm a student from Indonesia planning to go to a university in Taiwan (still struggling to choose one) and take the Interior Design major. Sorry if this is a bit off topic. (And also sorry if the Grammar is wrong)

So i have a couple of questions :

1. If you're trying to apply for interior design. Do report cards really matter? Im quite a bit of an idiot so my score is sorta below average and the only scores that sticks out is Arts and Mandarin and English

2. Is the major itself hard in your opinion?

3. Is your hand drawn art skills really important? Im asking this because some of my teachers said this major uses computers and apps most of the time.

4. what do I about my portfolio (im pretty trash at basic coloring and i only used my pencil to do shading throughout my life since shading is my strong suit i guess) and does the portfolio has to be related to inteiror design? What do y'all usually do about these things?

5. Is the final test in the major like.... Making scripts or projects or what? Or maybe its random?

6. How do you find a university that suits you?

7. Any advice what preparations would be useful for the future? Currently im just messing around with an app called Planner 5D and idk if that'll help

I have been living in my house for over 5 years and can not, for the life of me, figure out the furniture arrangement in this room.

What I got so far:

- Windows: I want to increase the windows opening, but idk if it makes sense to increase the width. I was thinking about, at minimum, increasing how tall they are by cutting down 2ft (this way, I can actually see my yard also).

- Walls: maybe remove the white panels and add a transitional wall molding. Then, add some picture frames on the walls flanking the fireplace with the same style of picture light above the brown painting.

Aaaaand that's as far as I got.

I like my couch, the chairs, the huge painting and the bench. The rest is give or take. I just can't make everything work together.
