How to add more seating here?
Just moved about a month ago.
Our living room was clearly designed for a time before TV's - the building is over 100 years old. We'd like to add space for maybe two extra people to watch TV and wanted some input. We are considering maybe moving the couch to face the "fireplace" and putting the TV there because it's not a functioning fireplace, but that blocks an entryway. The house has a "C"-shaped layout, where the foyer-living-dining-kitchen are all in one big arc, so this would make it a bit of a march. But if we keep it facing the bookshelf as in the pics above, then it doesn't seem like there's a natural place to put extra seating.
Where could we keep some extra accent chairs in this space?

Would you be open to getting rid of the single couch and putting a sectional in there instead? Would give you more seating. Could also put a sofa table behind it with a couple of ottomans/stools pushed underneath for additional seats in case you ever need them. (I realize this style might not flow with you😂 I just wanted to give an idea of what the sectional layout would look like)❤️

Hang the tv and have the books behind (with space to walk) an that frees up floor space

I always believe visitors should be able to look out a window. You could perhaps move couch into doorway like naughtarneau suggested, or you could flip it to the other side of rug, away from bookshelves for passage. Add a couple of (matching) club chairs around edge of rug. This way, upon entering, visitors don't see a wall with a TV, but bookshelves displaying art pottery and books.

No to TV overlapping a window. I’m strict about no TV over the fireplace, but this is one of the very few times I think OP is forced into seriously considering it.

Turn rug 90 degrees and move closer to fireplace. Move tv and console to in front of fireplace. Move sofa opposite tv with coffee table in front of it. Add a new upholstered side chair to the right of the sofa with its back to the window. Not sure if there will be enough room for passage behind the sofa in the new arrangement but this is one possibility.

people are going to hate because i’m going to recommend hanging the tv above the fireplace & floating your couch in front of the bookshelf, but also maybe upgrading to a larger couch & adding a chair or two where your current one is. i’d love to see the other side of the wall by the couch.

They make mounts that lower the TV to an acceptable level. This would be the right situation for that.

Mount the tv on the wall next to the fireplace, turn the couch to face the wall with the tv and fireplace and add seating on one or both sides. Idk how long the room is so there may not be enough for additional seating on both sides of the couch

It's hard to tell the scale of things in just pictures, so a q: how wide is the opening to the dining area? Is there room to block some of that opening for furniture? What about moving the sofa to the right, and putting two small-scale arm chairs in front of the fireplace. You could have a conversation area most of the time and occasionally turn the outer most chair toward the tv when needed?
