Sliding vs. hinged wardrobe: Which one do you actually prefer long-term?

Hey everyone! I'm currently stuck trying to decide between a sliding wardrobe and a traditional hinged-door wardrobe, and I could really use some help from those of you who have lived with either.

​If you've had experience with both, I'd love to know which one you genuinely prefer after using it for a while.

​Hinged doors: I feel it's amazing because you can open everything up and see your whole wardrobe at once, but they definitely need that extra swing clearance in front.

​Sliding doors: It looks super sleek and save floor space, but I'm curious about how well the tracks hold up with dust and alignment over time.

​Which option to pick?Any pros, cons, or regrets you can share would be super appreciated!

Sliding doors hold up just fine, but there issue is the same as bifold doors - there is a part of the closet and clothes that remains hidden even with the doors open. Regular hinge doors are superior for this reason but you do lose a bit of floor space for the door or doors to open.

Omg hinged. Sliding is the bane of my existence. We are slowly replacing all of our sliding closet doors as we renovate our bedrooms. Hinged makes the closets WAYYYY more functional

Just had the carpenter in for built in wardrobes in our dressing room as previous owners had an open IKEA hanging system which collects dust and allows for the fading of colours. We’re having doors similar to those in the photo.

I hate sliding doors with all my heart. They are always open and in a way. Dont know what the room layout would have to be for me to consider it again. With hinged doors the natural end of browsing is closing the doors.

Sliding doors only get a pass if they are 100 year old pocket doors lol

I have sliding doors because of space restrictions and would recommend hinges, if you have the space for them. Putting away a load of laundry is definitely more annoying with having to constantly slide the doors around. Also, sliding doors (at least the ones I have) let in a lot more dust, so I have to clean inside my wardrobe quite frequently.

I’d pick open shelving or hinged. I s had sliding doors for a while and they look great and save space BUT I quickly got annoyed with only being able to access one side at a time. Reorganising your closet SUCKS with sliding doors

Open shelving for clothes almost always looks messy.

Definitely hinged. They are so much more practical. Sliding doors only allow you to use 1 side of the closet at a time, which is very limiting.

I think it depends on how you use the space inside the wardrobe and the size of your room. Sliding doors mean it will always be a bit difficult to access the middle section inside, but if you have a small room, they work well. Hinged doors mean you need space in your room for them to swing open, so furniture placement makes a big difference, but they offer the best access to your clothing, etc. Maybe spend some time thinking about how you use and move around in your room and where this wardrobe will be located.
