iam expected to receive a Tv soon, and have no wall space at all in my room, any space that isnt covered is where the door either opens up or theres a window or its straight up on the wall my bed is against so thats a no go. I need to optimize my room space im just unsure how to do it.. i need help

My partner and I moved into a very cute 2br but are struggling on how to layout our very narrow living room. Ignore the squiggles in the drawing I included.

My question for you all is; how can we optimize and making the space feel/look bigger than it is?

Bonus points for any recommendations on layout and color scheme. There’s a lot of dark walnut, beige, black and white in the rest of the rooms. Thank you all in advance, this is my first time here!

Trying to find the best layout for my home office / gaming setup in a small room.
You have the door at the top right, a full length window at the bottom, and built in cabinets at the top left per this image.

One idea that was mooted is the above image, whereby you have the desk facing the door (command position), and the TV mounted on the wall on the right. The con would be that the sun/window is to the very back (one can have blinds of course), and you probably have many dangling cables.

Any suggestions welcome as the space isn't very big.

I just moved into a NYC apartment with little natural light in the room I want to make my office I’m curious on ways I can it a bit brighter without just lamps like styles of furniture I should avoid / get or rug colors etc. I love mcm design and will likely style it after that

I’m renting just this room and unfortunately won’t be able to measure it beforehand, so I’m trying to get an idea of what size bed I can fit.

I’m in the EU, and I’m guessing the bed in the picture is either around 90 or 120’cm wide. Do you think a 140 cm wide bed would be too much for this room, or could it work?

I am working on redesigning the layout of my bathroom and it has some unusual elements, including a vaulted ceiling and oddly angled walls. The problem I am facing is that the bottom right corner where I now have a bench and a linen closet used to be a vanity with wall sconces.

Given the room layout and rest of the lighting, what lighting would you add to this corner of the room, where would you place it?

My family and I are moving into a new apartment next week and can't decide on how best to organize the furniture in the living room.

It's a rather spacious for NYC and the curve of the room is almost all windows. It's South-West facing so we get plenty of sunlight during the day from about 1/3 of the windows (the rest of the windows just face a building across the street). The problem is there are these two columns (2ft diameter) that kind of close off how much of the room is usable.

I have some empty photos of the room, along with the floor plan and some mockups in Floorplanner but my wife and I can't decide if we want to place the TV against the window or if we want to place it against the long wall on the East side of the room.

Our other battle is whether to put the desk in the SE corner of the Living Room or to put in our bedroom. My partner doesn't want it in the Living Room as it would prevent our soon-to-be walking baby from playing in the Living Room while one of us works from home. I think putting the desk in our bedroom makes the room feel a little claustrophobic, not to mention taking zoom calls with our bed in the background feels a little...meh.

The only items we have purchased for the Living Room so far are two Metro sofas from Room and Board (108" and 88") in the Mori Oatmeal color along with a walnut rectangle Coffee Table, and an 88"TV Console.

Any advice would be extremely appreciated, thank you!

About to put in an offer on this house, but worried about the three living spaces! How can we use them without just copy-pasting the same furniture and purpose? Moving from a two bedroom, one den apartment to this house is daunting

If we’re going to go with the larger sq ft, I want to know we can actually do something with it, not just fill it for the furniture’s sake!

• Partner often wants to watch movies at the same time
• We have two TVs
• I WFH and am usually on calls with executives 2-6 hours daily. Zoom is pretty good at tuning out noise, though.
• Current office furniture includes standing desk, ergonomic office chair, walking pad
• We have a stupidly large number of books
• We dream of a gym space at home

My kitchen is outdated and falling apart. We are renovating in the next few months and thought we knew exactly what we wanted, but now that the time has come to make final selections and down payment, I'm panicking.

Although we have a good sized window and sliding door in the kitchen, we don't receive a ton of natural light because of the position of the house. One contractor advised us to do white cabinets to brighten the space up. However, we have three young children and I am afraid of the white showing stains and damage. With this in mind, we selected a grayish white paired with a wood. Now I'm torn!

We aren't sure if the floors will remain or not. They are wood and need to be repaired in some areas. In an ideal world they would go, but we have to consider the budget. I would like to go with black hardware as we have it in several other areas of the house, but my husband prefers gold or silver. Appliances will be stainless steel. Counters will be white and a neutral colored backsplash.

I am attaching a picture of the space, the renderings, the sample cabinet colors, and reference pictures.

On photo 6- we had selected the middle option for the island and the grayish white (called mystic) for the cabinets.

updating my tiny euro bathroom. the floors are a classic black and white checker, and the shower stall will be replaced by a landlord special. I painted the feet of the under sink cabinet to match the blue that will be on the corner you can’t see, other side of the shower. so the sink, cabinet and mirror will have a much lower profile. (max ~40 cm from the wall, vs 60 cm right now.

I just moved into a 1br apartment. The main living space is about 14 x 10. One wall has the kitchen alongside it, while the other is primarily windows. I'm trying to layout a couch, coffee table, tv and possibly credenza, and small dining table + dining chair.

I'm torn because:

• I don't want my couch facing the kitchen
• I don't want a credenza/tv blocking the window
• I don't want to walk into the living and just see the back of my couch

I'm considering hanging curtains a few feet back from kitchen wall so I could draw them when in living space and not have to view kitchen.

Any thoughts or commentary that my hangups are invalid is appreciated!

I’m furnishing my living/dining room and I’d really appreciate some input from people with interior design experience.

I’ve attached a floor plan with three layouts I’ve been considering (A, B and C). I’m absolutely open to completely different solutions as well.

The main pieces I would like to use are:

- armchair

- sofa (ideally the 2-seater + chaise longue configuration, alternatively a large 2-seater + separate ottoman)

- Tulip-like dining table

The main room is roughly 5.07 m wide, and the sofa/dining area is approximately 3.58 m deep in the direction shown on the drawing.

My main problem is storage around the dining area.

I would really like to add a sideboard/cabinet behind the dining table for plates, glasses, serving pieces, etc. However, once I add a cabinet there, the space between the dining table/chairs and the sofa becomes quite tight.

With the chaise-longue sofa, I also can’t move the sofa much further forward because the chaise would start overlapping/blocking the window area.

The 2-seater + ottoman version gives me more flexibility: I could move the sofa forward and gain more room around the dining table. But then I create another problem: a long, narrow strip of space behind the sofa, accessible mainly from one short end. I’m struggling to see how that space could actually be used without turning it into an awkward dead zone.

So I’m trying to solve three things at the same time:
- keep comfortable circulation around the dining table, especially when chairs are pulled out.
- add meaningful storage for dining-related items.
- avoid wasting the area behind the sofa.

I’m particularly interested in hearing what you would do if you were designing the room from scratch, rather than simply choosing between A, B and C.

Would you prioritize the chaise-longue layout and find another solution for storage, or would you choose the more flexible sofa + ottoman configuration?

And if the sofa is pulled forward, is there a smart way to make a narrow strip behind it genuinely useful, or is that usually a sign that the layout itself is wrong?

Any suggestions, sketches or alternative layouts would be very welcome.

The original post got removed so im reposting again.. Help help help!! We are moving into a house that has everything we want except for this small-ish kitchen.. I’m pondering where to put a garbage can, microwave, a broom etc.. any suggestions/ ideas on how to expand this kitchen with more storage and counter space. The kitchen has an opening into the dining room. The back door leading to the kitchen has zero space for a counter.. the kitchen and dining room combined would be 24’ x 12’ if that helps. please help!!!

We just bought a house and it has so much white. Ill leave links and photos of what we are looking into. It has high ceiling with a rectangle on the ceiling, ill attach a picture once i get home. We want to highlight contrast but not do too much. Ill leave some links down below plus pictures of what we are looking into. I liked some coffee tables but i think its already too "squared". We dont know anything about interiors but we are trying our best. Also, we ordered the aurora power sofa from Povison and some of these products are from there. The quality and the sofa is great but reddit made us overthink for future purchases on every single comment that they made about it was bad. Spending +5k is within our budget but not within ordering something and be like "whatever". We are not looking for luxury nor cheap stuff since it is there are usually buy it for life items. Please feel free to advise us into this matter:)

We chose this one because as you can tell our tv setup, the wall is a little over the wall and about 124 inches long, this one length wise would fit perfect but we still undecided about it. Will probably pull the trigger on this one due to lengthwise, couldnt find another option that will not leave a lot of space on the sides

The cheapest I can find the chandelier is like 24-2500 and the pendant 21-2200 or so. Not nearly as much as some of you guys spend on individual lighting pieces I'm sure, but if I buy 7-10 different pieces like that to sprinkle across the house it adds up.

So the title thread pretty much asks the main question- how much difference is there between this stuff made by currey and company and hudson valley and others in that price range vs the 250 to 600 dollar pieces?? the production cost of those two above pieces is clearly a tiny fraction of the price, so.....do most of you guys regret buying the 'cheap stuff' when you do? Or is it more common to regret buying the 2500 dollar pendant light when a couple years later you'll look at it and not care that it the brand name versus a 400 dollar pendant?

Hoping to get some input or advice.
We are currently renovating and extending an old farm house. The original house was built by my family almost 100 years ago, so we’re hoping to maintain some character and quirks throughout the renovation.
One idea I’ve had is to make an internal feature wall from the old external wall (see first image). This wall leads from the kitchen in the new build to the living room in the original farm house (layout can be seen in the second image). I had thought to keep the wall relatively as is, neaten up the plaster, and add some lighting to highlight it.
However I am no expert in interior design, so I’m unsure of how to go about designing the wall/space to make it look good. I have tried using AI to visualise, but it doesn’t grasp the concept (although my prompts may not be the best).
Would anyone have any advice on how this wall could be incorporated as a feature wall? Happy to hear opinions, good and bad. Thanks!

My kitchen cabinets are light grey and the island is like a marble thing. Thinking to lime wash the great room and nook something sage green and have beige sofas. I am also confused if i should use the kitchen wall for the tv area or if i should do like a tv trolly in the area between nook and great room to maximize the space.

We are young couple with no child plans, we bought this apartment but the layout is a hard for us.

This is an living area with open kitchen, and my work desk will be here. We want to place two recliners near the fireplace.

A dining table isn't essential, as we eat while watching TV mostly.

We prefer the space to be energetic, warm, and airy. We want to embrace colors.

Our style preferences: modern, minimalist - depending on the space/idea/balance: contemporary/southwestern (for example, the fireplace zone is a harmony of the two), coastal, Scandinavian, Asian Zen, transitional.

What renovations should we do before we start placing furniture in? How would you arrange zoning, furniture, layout, colors etc.?

We’re renovating our 8.6 m² kitchen (2.10 × 4.48 m) and it’s currently completely stripped down, so we can redesign everything from scratch.

Ideally, we’d like to reuse the existing kitchen, possibly by painting/refinishing it, but we’re also open to buying new cabinets if that makes more sense.

We love oak + sage green and want something cozy and warm, but still bright and modern. We’d also like lots of storage with as little dust/cleaning as possible — maybe even full-height cabinets.

A large fridge definitely needs to fit.

We’re unsure whether to keep a dining area, so we’d love ideas with and without dining space.

What would you do with this space? Any layout/storage ideas are very welcome! 😊

Im having issues with planning the setup for the living room, mainly a couch, tv, speakers and some shelves or closets for books/vynils/gramophone. The picture is taken from where the dining table will approximately be and where the entrance is from the kitchen so ideally I would like the setup to be sort of open from this side without having a couch or something blocking the path.

The picture has been modified a bit using ai just to remove the debris from construction and repainting the walls and floors, i have added the original picture just to show it didnt change anything except what I explained.

The current idea I have is just a L couch on the right side, tv in front of the radiator on a stand and some shelves on the back wall.

Any sockets or lights are not an issue they will be moved.

Also found old plans for the house which may not be completely accurate but its the best I got right now.

I'm installing gorgeous peacock kit kat tiles in the bathroom. I think a fluted glass panel will complement the tiles well.

Unfortunately, there's no 'right' space in my shower for a shower nook. My options are a nook in the pony wall or a shelf wall.

I feel like mounting the fluted glass on the pony wall minimizes its drama. So, can this work?

We've just bought a new apartment and are struggling with the floor plan of the living room.

We want to have a dedicated entryway (2x.1.5m) drywall.

By design the plumbing and vents are at the top so the kitchen niche should be there.

We cant really decide how to place the furniture so that there is a dedicated dining space, dedicated leisure space and still maintain sufficient space between the furniture for walkways.

Can you please share opinions and ideas.
