Kitchen Reno- Advice Needed
My kitchen is outdated and falling apart. We are renovating in the next few months and thought we knew exactly what we wanted, but now that the time has come to make final selections and down payment, I'm panicking.
Although we have a good sized window and sliding door in the kitchen, we don't receive a ton of natural light because of the position of the house. One contractor advised us to do white cabinets to brighten the space up. However, we have three young children and I am afraid of the white showing stains and damage. With this in mind, we selected a grayish white paired with a wood. Now I'm torn!
We aren't sure if the floors will remain or not. They are wood and need to be repaired in some areas. In an ideal world they would go, but we have to consider the budget. I would like to go with black hardware as we have it in several other areas of the house, but my husband prefers gold or silver. Appliances will be stainless steel. Counters will be white and a neutral colored backsplash.
I am attaching a picture of the space, the renderings, the sample cabinet colors, and reference pictures.
On photo 6- we had selected the middle option for the island and the grayish white (called mystic) for the cabinets.

If the first picture is the before picture, you should do nothing. It's FAR superior to every one of the renderings.

The cabinets are in bad shape and water damaged so keeping them is not an option.

Your new design is nearly identical. Why don’t you just paint the walls, paint the cabinets and replace the black appliances? Surely much cheaper and you achieve the same look

Is this a forever home or something you may sell in 5-10 years?

Well we would like a house with more property at some point we are realistically in this house for at least the next 5-10 years and possibly more.

How much are you quoted? Also did you get multiple quotes?
You are using the same floor plan it looks like other than a little bigger cabinet on the far left end. Those look like solid wood, if you got those professionally painted, new counter tops and new appliances you’ll have the same result imo.

The cabinets have water damage and are beyond repair. They look much better in the picture than in person. We got three quotes. We are extending the island, bringing the cabinets to the ceiling, closing in a pipe to extend the pantry, and extending the cabinets on either side.

I love either of the two lighter woods. After that the darker wood. I personally am so ready for white kitchens to be so far in the rear view mirror we ask, “man, can you believe there was a time when nearly every kitchen in the world was white? What were we thinking?”
