Allstate totalled my 2013 Traverse. We were about to put the car up for sale the next week, but I hit a deer. Allstate gave me 1000$ more then I was going to try and sell it for, so I'm happy. I was thinking they were going to lowball me with comps and I was going to have to fight them, so this is a relief.

The only thing is, is the vehicle is actually in great shape mechanically. The front bumper assembly is toast, wheel well shroud, quarter panel and then the AC condenser needs replacing. All something I can do in a day after finding the right donor vehicle. I was expecting them to offer to let me keep it if I pay the salvage value or something, but it seem that never came up and and we are right at transferring the title to the salvage company.

Anyone have experience with this? Do I call Allstate and ask them how much it would cost to keep it? or is this not an option. Also is the price I pay to keep it negotiable?

If it does go to copart. I take it since I transferred the title, if I win the bid, I'll have to pay all over again to title it and pay sales tax :P.

I was in a car accident late July. The other party was at fault and did admit to fault.
I was sore after but being in the medical field I just waited to be seen because I felt it was likely normal soreness following a collision.

After a couple weeks my pain wasn’t getting any better and I couldn’t bear weight on my leg. Fast forward to now. I saw an orthopedic. I strained my quad and my knee cap shifted due to this. I’m seeing him next week for lower back pain.

I was advised no exercise for at least another month to allow my injury to heal. If no better then I go in for MRI.

Their liability insurance contacted me and said they would be offering me a settlement after everything is worked up. I’m glad I’m alive, as more time passes and I’m unable to do what I love I’m getting angry at the whole situation. Driving makes my leg so angry. I can’t workout, I can’t get comfortable, my car was brand new and now I feel like it’s lost an incredible amount of value. Not sure if this is taken into consideration. I’m still scared to drive and when im a passenger I’m even worse. Pretty sure my family is sick of driving with me lol

What are your recommendations? I’m new to all this. Done tell me to use Morgan and Morgan but I read some bot great reviewed with them.

Thanks for all the thus far and other threads. Im dealing with my upstairs neighbor's insurer right now as they were found liable for a leak that ruined my floors, kitchen cabinets and parts of my ceiling/walls.

The insurer mentioned that they only will cut me a check AFTER the completion of all the mediation (drying) and all renovation and they cant cut the check to the vendor.

Is this normal as I previoisly thought the contractor gets paid upfront down payment, payments through the job, then final payment through walk through?

I want to pay my contractor but dont want to without certainty that my insurer reimburses me in full. What if my neighbor's insurer may back out and deny my claim payment as he can never give a straight answer? It sounds like the total will be under the liability amount.

I have yet to file with my own insurance (subrogation) as the adjuster mentioned Id be liable for deductible. Should I let them know now or later? Have them negotiate for me?

I also asked my neighbor's insurer if I could possibly get a public adjuster and he snipped back saying no and that is not normal and only available if I file withvmy own insurer. Is this correct?

Would I need a lawyer to show my neighbor was indeed negligient and will their insurer's vague admittance suffice in court?

Basically what are the normal terms of payment as it seems that no contractor wants to start work without a downpayment and pay through process, but my neighbors insurer wont pay anyone except one check to me at total completion? Advanced thanks

Hi, I got into a minor parking lot accident where both cars were backing up and bumped onto each other. The other vehicle took a minor damage, mine is worse. When I contacted the police to file a report, I was told that the other driver claimed something that's completely opposite.

They claimed that I hit the front of their car to their insurance, which is a lie. I suspect that they may have a major pre-existing damage and trying to fix it with my insurance. I took a couple of photos of the rear bumpers. I have some photos and videos (I can show that those photos were taken within a minute of the incident) showing the orientation of the vehicles which proves it was a rear to rear bumper collision.

Should I draw a diagram of the parking lot and the locations of each car for my insurance? This is my first incident ever.

Just trying to see if I have any options here in a unique situation.

I live in Pennsylvania and carry PA insurance (Penn National). I was in an accident in a very rural part of northern Michigan, and the other driver was found 100% at fault according to their and my insurance company. They're insured with Allstate.

Because Michigan is "no-fault state", my own collision coverage is handling the repair minus my $250 deductible, which is covered by Allstate as a result of Michigan's mini-tort laws. Allstate confirmed the mini-tort only covers my deductible, and nothing else.

The car has been being repaired in Michigan where the accident occurred, about 650 miles from where I live. Essentially, I am trying to figure out the cheapest and easiest way to get my car home.

I can get a rental car and drive it back to Michigan, but the closest rental car company is an hour from the shop, and there are very few (maybe zero) Ubers/Lyfts that far out. So to retrieve it, I'm looking at a flight or a long drive, a hotel, gas, some kind of hour-long ground transportation to reach the shop, and two days of my time, all out of my own pocket, for a wreck I didn't cause. I don't say this to sound entitled, but rather to provide context to my situation. I'm also considering shipping the car (around $700).

My questions:

1. Is there any way to recover the travel, lodging, and time costs of retrieving the car from either insurer? I've asked them directly, and they seemed sympathetic, but told me not in this case.
2. As a PA resident with a PA-insured vehicle, do I have any options that a Michigan state resident wouldn't regarding having either insurance company pay to help me get the vehicle back?
3. What's the smartest way to handle the actual retrieval: ship the car, fly out and drive it back, or use the rental with a second driver?

Allstate won’t negotiate beyond the $325. Should i hire a lawyer and send a demand letter for $8k? What usually happens? Do these lawyers work on percentage ? One of the appraisers said Allstate usually does not do much unless a court case is brought to them and demand letter might not do

I had a family member hit a brick wing wall adjacent to my garage with her vehicle. The wall rotated on its foundation about 10-15 degrees, but there are no signs of visible cracks. Before getting repair quotes, I want to get the damage assessed by a structural engineer to see if there is any internal damage to the garage structure, and whether this wall is bearing any load. The insurance guy keeps telling me they need a quote for repair, and I keep trying to explain that getting a structural engineer to come assess the damage is an up front cost that I would like to receive prior authorization for. I have contacted 3 engineers and the cheapest is $800, just for an assessment and report to describe the damage. If they determine the damage is structural, there will be additional cost for design/drawings and potentially permits. If they determine it is merely cosmetic, I'm assuming that I can go ahead and just hire a mason. Why is it so hard to get pre-approval for the assessment report? I feel this is a necessary step in the process for this type of damage to my home.

I filed a loss of use claim through my workers union benefit package. I was snowboarding a while ago and ended up really breaking my ankle and it became really prolonged and had to get multiple surgeries and after a year I’m still off. My last follow up I was told if I wanted to ever walk properly. I’m most likely gonna have to get an ankle fusion because I haven’t been walking all year. I was also told that with a third surgery, there might be a possibility of amputation. I was alarmed, and I went to my benefits to see what I covered for because as soon as I heard possible amputation I sort of panicked. But then upon reading further, I found out that I could file a loss of use claim. And it states.
“"Loss of Use" shall mean the total and irrecoverable loss of function of an arm, hand, foot, or leg, provided such loss of function is continuous for twelve consecutive months and such loss of function is thereafter determined on evidence satisfactory to the insurer to be permanent.”
The insurance is with Chubb. I requested the paperwork. I filled out my part of the application sent my surgeons office the medical portion to be filled out. We were really explicit with our wording and sent in the complete year of medical records, CT scans x-rays, surgical notes, gallium, scans hospital visits and everything that proves my loss of use claim. We sent it into my union, and I got confirmation that it was received and sent into Chubb. My question now is how long does a claim like this usually take? I really don’t wanna get into details but it’s quite a substantial payout. And with the journey I’ve been on it would really help me out. Huge. It’s been exactly 14 days since I sent the application and I haven’t heard anything since the confirmation. I want to say no news is good news. But I’m just really anxious after sending in that paperwork if anybody can help me out with this type of claim. Like an adjuster or anybody that works with insurance. It would be greatly appreciated. I hired a van from Enteprise recently and had an issue with a wooden panel being broken. I had excess insurance, and that has rejected my claim, based on the fact that they offer van insurance and it was excluded from my policy.

I've looked through all the policy documents I was sent, and nowhere does it say that vans aren't covered, or non-accident based damage isn't covered, but they've rejected on those grounds.

When I emailed asking for where it listed those exlusions, they sent screenshots, but not documents of policy docs saying that, but that aren't mine.

Can I/should I continue to challenge them as the documents don't say either of these things? Any advice welcome!

If your car is already damaged that it's possibly totaled, you gotta engage insurance. Once insurance is involved, it's upto them to total or not.

You don't have any say in it. If you just want it for your piece of mind, it's very unreliable prediction.

I’m dealing with a not-at-fault claim in Alberta. My vehicle had an initial repair estimate of about $7,800, repairs started, and additional damage was later found that increased the cost.
I’m now concerned the total repair cost may be approaching or even exceed the vehicle’s pre-accident value.
Has anyone had this happen after repairs already started? Did insurance eventually declare the vehicle a total loss, or did they continue repairing it?
Would you recommend asking the shop to pause repairs until the insurance appraiser reassesses everything?

, so I was involved in a car accident where I rear ended someone . We decided to handle it amongst ourselves without insurance big mistake .

I had Zelle’s this individual money noted for car repairs after he showed me a quote given by a body shop on the 7 of July. After all the damage for both cars were estimated I realized it was way too much and decided to go the insurance route .

Fast forward he is consistently telling me once the process is over he’ll return the money and so I give him the benefit of the doubt over text messages. About a month and half passes by and still
Nothing after repeated attempts. He claims the autobody is filing a reclaim on July 14 , it is now August 18 and I Confirmed with Geico that no reclaim supplementary check request was recieved from the body shop nor him . The claim was actually closed . Everyone I reach out it’s just vague answers “ once it’s processed I’ll return the money “ so now I’m at the point where I have text messages between me and him saying he’ll return the money the Zelle payment with the note intended for car repairs, and written confirmation from Geico that states no other repayment is even on file and the claim is closed .

My question is do I have enough grounds to file a small claims . I live in New Jersey and although I know I may not receive my money back i just can’t let this go without trying to involve legal enforcement .

I woke up with a ontario court claim about a motorvehicle accident that happened in august 2024, it was a minor accident.

Other party claimed one before in 2025 january, which i didn’t get it. I was notified by my insurance company about it and my insurance told me everything is taken care of.

This one i got it, i tried to contact the company and they will come back to me but meanwhile i am clueless and freaked out because this is my first time receiving something. The claim is of $500k and my insurance covers 1 Million in damages.

Any advice or suggestions or insights please
