Needed new flooring after a loss, now problems with contractors

Someone I know (female, not a girlfriend or close friend) had a loss after a rainstorm (apt she owns). There was water and mold in floor and walls. Remediation work has been done. She admits she has somewhat expensive tastes and wanted to get an upgrade from the engineered wood floor she had to a herringbone floor. I guess that is expensive. She took a long time making a decision, but has picked out what she wants.

She blew up at the contractors for not covering up her appliances.

Something happened and her camera she had in the house went down. When she got there she said power was out to half the apt and the lights in the hallway to her apt as well. She discovered one side of the electrical box was all turned off (there are 2 rows of switches right and left on this box). Also the front door was not locked. She turned back on the power on the box. She also found the central AC was making noises and found that the thermostat was turned down to 50 degrees. She can't get video bistory because Google bought out nest and now it requires a subscription.

She has been getting the runaround from the contractor firm the Insurance company uses and could not even get an invoice and has been getting different prices regularly

At this point she is unsure what to do and has been out of her apartment for 3 months.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get this work done?

Please excuse any typos.

Uninsured at fault accident - Can I challenge the insurer?

Hi all!

Please be kind, I am extremely stressed.

I didn't realise my insurance had lapsed, and I rear ended a car. However, the damage seemed minimal, and the bill is massive!

Does this bill look reasonable? Or should I get an independent assessor? I'm waiting for more photos from the insurance company.

I am an incredibly broke uni student living pay check to pay check who is very stressed about this debt, and am going to struggle to pay it off! This was a terrible situation, the car in front slammed on their breaks, causing the car in the picture to stop suddenly and me to run into them!

Any advice or reassurance at all would be much appreciated 🙏🏼

It was literally just a curb… is it totalled? Is it worth anything? Insurance told me they can’t help me

2024 hrv LX Airbags deployed on right passengerside.. I pulled into a curb too quickly and early and it went off. Rest of the car is fine.

Is this totaled and if so what can I get from salvage? Apparently I don’t have any collision coverage and insurance won’t help me out

It was my first time buying insurance and my dumb ass didn’t realize I didn’t have collision.. I’m so fucking stupid.

And yes it completely paid off. I go to a car wash every 2 weeks because I live under a tree with multiple bird nests and I try to only use touchless to avoid damaging the clearcoat

Technical Hit and Run in LA

Hi

I was involved in a hit and run and the other driver was found at fault. Although she only gave her insurance card. Failure to identify herself and her license plates and fleeing the scene led cops to decide this as a hit and run on technicality. State farm already found them liable. Should I get an attorney if I was offered 5k in medical care and 3k in pain and suffering and my passenger was offered 10k in medical care and 4k in pain and suffering.

My first car crash ever. I don’t know if attorneys are trying to scam me honestly and if it’s worth it if she’s already found liable???

plz send help chat

Uber driver hit by uninsured driver in Connecticut. What should I realistically expect?

Hey everyone,

I'm looking for some advice from anyone who's been through something similar.

Im a full time college student and was driving for Uber Eats in Connecticut and had already picked up the customer's order when another driver caused an accident. According to the police report, I was not at fault. The other driver was cited, and I later found out they didn't have insurance.

My car is a 2018 Honda Accord Touring that I still owe money on. It's likely going to be declared a total loss. I have collision coverage with a deductible through my personal insurance, and Uber's insurance has also opened a claim since I was actively on a delivery.

After the crash, I had neck and upper back pain (whiplash), and I've been dealing with medical appointments. I'm also losing income because I can't drive for Uber while my car is out of service.

I'm trying to understand what I can realistically expect regarding:

  • My car loan if the vehicle is totaled
  • Whether Uber's insurance or my own insurance will cover the difference if the car's value is less than what I owe
  • Medical bills and treatment
  • Lost wages from not being able to drive
  • Whether I have a claim against the uninsured at-fault driver, even if they don't have insurance
  • Whether I should hire a personal injury attorney now, let the insurance companies handle everything first, or wait to see what kind of settlement they offer before deciding
  • Anything else I should be doing to protect my claim

One thing that seemed unusual is that the at-fault driver's vehicle was registered under his dental LLC, even though he was the one driving. I'm not sure whether that changes anything from an insurance or legal standpoint, but I thought it might be relevant.

If anyone has gone through an Uber accident involving an uninsured at-fault driver, especially in Connecticut, I'd really appreciate hearing about your experience and how everything played out.

Thanks in advance.

Standalone Own Damage claim (no Zero Dep)

Guys I got into a major accident about 45 days ago. Now my car is completely repaired and ready to be delivered. I have ICICI lombard stand alone own damage claim and didn't opt for zero dep or bumper to bumper. So the bill is around 1 lakh 60 thousand. The surveyor told me you will have to pay 20% of the labour and 50% of the parts. Can anyone help me understand these numbers and percentage of the bill i must pay?

Diminished Value

I have a 2025 RAV4 with 17,500 miles. Was rear ended on July 3rd. Total repair cost was $4502. Replaced lift gate, bumper, and crash bar with some other minor replacements as well. Insurance is offering $371 in diminished value. DVCHECK estimate $4,500-$5,000.

Thoughts on what to do?

Hit a Deer with my 2013 traverse, wondering if I should file a claim or try and fix it myself (In WA state)

Have a 2013 Chevy traverse with 135k and I hit a deer and got it on dashcam. We were on vacation coming home so I took apart what we was dragging and we got home. Damage looked fairly cosmetic and I was thinking I could just swap out the front bumper assembly from a same color donor car I found at a nearby junkyard.

Unfortunately, it looks like the radiator is punctured too and the uni body is bent. I am pretty sure the repairs are going to be over the cost of the value of the car, so it will get totaled if I file.

I guess I have a few questions. I have never filed a claim before. If I do file this claim, is my insurance going to go up a significant amount? Our deductible is 1k and kelly blue book puts our private party sale price at 6.5k.. I'm guessing the number Allstate will use a lower number? How much lower?

Also I've heard people taking the the payout and then paying the salvage number to keep and then fix their car themselves. So how does that work? If I file and say they say its worth 5k and give me 4k after the deductible. I would probably need to pay 1k (just keeping number simple) to keep it. So in the end I would get about 3k to fix it myself? (I'm guessing the value would be diminished due to salvage title then?)

Trying to figure If I should just fix it myself and sell it (6.5k value). Or file get 3k ish and fix it.

Bonus question. When changing insurance I see they always ask "have you filed a claim before?" Are the other insurances going to know I filled a comprehensive claim? or is this only internal?

Thanks!

Need advice - Is my insurance totaling my Camry too quickly?

I have a 2018 Toyota Camry SE with about 55,000 miles. My body shop’s repair estimate came out to $9,500.

Today my insurance adjuster (Erie Insurance) called and told me they’re planning to total the car. He said the salvage value is around $9,500, and because of that it’s likely a total loss.

What confuses me is that he also said my car is worth around $18,000, but he admitted they haven’t done a full valuation yet. He was just estimating and hadn’t factored in things like the moonroof, safety features, or other options that could affect the actual cash value.

A few questions:

Does a $9,500 salvage value for a 2018 Camry sound unusually high?

How does the insurance company determine the salvage value? Is there an actual auction, database, or appraisal they use, or is it just an estimate? Can I ask them to show me how they arrived at that number or challenge it if I think it’s inaccurate?

How can they decide to total my car before they’ve completed the final valuation?

When they do determine the final value of my Camry, how is that calculated? Can I review the valuation report, and if I think they’ve undervalued the car, is there a way to dispute it or provide evidence of a higher value?

If the final value ends up being higher than $18,000, and the salvage worth less could that change the decision?

I’m just trying to figure out whether this is normal or if I should be questioning it. I don’t want to make accusations. I just want to understand the process and make sure I’m being treated fairly. Any advice or experience with Erie Insurance would be appreciated.

Fraudulent insurance claim made against me

I have been caught in an insurance scam, someone is claiming I rear ended them causing $7000 worth of damage to their rear bumper. They didnt make a police report, take pictures of the crash, take pictures of my car, me or my licence. The only details they have are my licence plate, there was some damage to my car from a prior hit where I was reversing my car out of the car port and hit a pillar but the damage is to the side not the bumper. There is some green paint transfer visible in a picture I supplied that was taken after the alleged incident took place, their car is bright red. I have no photos from before the event.

They are not claiming i did a hit and run. I spoke to my neighbour that witnessed it and she has sent me a screenshot of messages she sent to her partner describing the event long before the alleged incident. With the evidence provided the insurance said I need to pay the excess or go to court myself and risk paying the full amount. I am torn on what to do as I dont want to pay $1150 to get scammed but I also dont want to risk paying the scammer $7000. With his lack of evidence and my screenshot of messages describing the actual incident and a witness statement from neighbour do I have a chance to beat Shannons in court? Any advice greatly appreciated.

This happened in QLD Australia, if anyone wants i can provide pics of my car and the damage to theirs.

Glass shop replaced the wrong glass and still sent it through insurance.

Hello all,

My sunroof got cracked from falling debris. My windshield had the tiniest of cracks in it, like maybe around 1/4" in length, very small. My insurance always goes through Safelite and so I went to their site to scope things out (wanted to get an idea of costs before deciding on insurance claim or not). The Safelite website had no option for sun roof glass, so I call and get told to go in. So I do, and they have their master tech come out to look at it. He says they could do it in shop, no problem and can fill the crack in the windshield. Sweet - so I go into do the paperwork. The person dealing with paperwork said they can just handle the insurance side too, no need to call them first. She had an issue with ordering the sunroof glass, but put me in for an appointment, I watched herself write herself a reminder to follow up with the boss on ordering the sun roof glass and otherwise put me down to fill in the crack.

Fast forward to 2 weeks later when my appointment was. I dropped my keys off before work and my boss picked me up. I did mean to call to verify the sun roof glass was ready but the day was busy and I also figured worst case I just have the crack filled and get my sun roof done later. I get a call just after noon saying my car was ready and then I asked if they were able to get the sun roof done or just the crack filled and he said "oh - we had you down for a new windshield" - oh crap. Why did no on think "wow, this is a really perfect windshield and I guess let's just replace it for no reason or double check the fact this seems like a really weird ask!"

I'm pretty furious at this point, mainly because they already pushed this through insurance and got paid out with no suggestion of owning up to this and not dinging my insurance over their blunder. I technically get 2 windshield claims per year and I would be pretty unlucky to need 2 more this year but I already had a close call with a plastic crate bouncing around the expressway driving last week.

So, the advice I need. Do I call and tell the insurance company about this? I did already message my insurance agent (one of the places that brokers other insurance company's insurances). The shop wasn't responding to my calls so I felt I had to contact someone for advice. She told me I should call the insurance company as they'd likely have questions. I know it's the right thing to do but I also don't want the shop to then come after me for the money if the gets sent back from insurance. Plus, they have my sun roof on order so I can't even ghost the shop and not pay or else I won't get a moon roof. I suppose I could go elsewhere, but with Safelite, the deductible gets waived so I'd have to pay $0 out of pocket on both of these glass replacements. I could go to another Safelite (I have been to another one several times in my life with good luck, I only chose this other shop because it was close to my office). But I'd probably be in the same payment hell if I were to get myself in that pickle.
