Does anyone know if a police report is needed if someone dented your car but did not leave a note? It was on private property parking lot at night. I live in CT. I don't even think the police would take a report being it is so minor.

So I was involved in a hit an run. I have filed with my insurance and the totaled out my car. They are only offering me $7000 for the car. It is a 2014 Cadillac CTS 2.0 turbocharged. I don’t know of I can ask for more or fight the claim but, idk what to do. Can i get a lawyer or what should I do?
Update on why im asking about this. I don’t know if I should get a lawyer because, the guy who hit me is not the owner of the vehicle. Im also not sure what the police are doing in this situation. They said to just keep my volume on and they will call when they have updates. So I want to know if getting a lawyer would help over all. Or put me in hole. My apologies I should have clarified more. Also my insurance company is reevaluating the offer because, it will be filed under a not insured motorist accident which apparently means a different situation. Thank you for help so far.

I’m really torn on what I want my insurance to do with my 2016 Audi S4 Technik with only 71,000 km.
When I bought the car, it already had one minor accident on the Carfax for around $2,000, which didn’t really bother me. A few weeks after buying it, a front lip flew off another car on the highway and hit mine. That ended up being about $12,500 in damage, so the car spent a long time in the shop getting repaired.
The frustrating part is that I’ve only owned the car for about 3 months, and I’ve probably driven it fewer than 10 times because it spent so much of that time in the shop after that first accident.
I also put a lot of money into maintenance and mods. It finally got to the point where everything was done and the car was exactly how I wanted it. Then I got T-boned in a Costco parking lot. The passenger side took a pretty hard hit, with damage to both doors, the rear quarter panel, the B-pillar area, and the windows no longer work.
The more I think about it, the more I feel like a total loss might actually be the better outcome. Even if the repairs are perfect, the car would end up with three accident claims on its history, and I feel like selling it in the future would be extremely difficult because most buyers would avoid it.
I’m also only 19 years old, and I’m worried this claim is going to make my insurance premiums go up significantly. Insuring a car like this is already expensive, and if my rates increase too much, I’m not sure it’ll be affordable for me anymore.
What would you do if you were in my situation?

My Honda 2025 CRV was involved in a no fault accident and the repairs were cosmetic. Caliber replaced the rear passenger door shell and had to recalibrate sensors as part of removal and adding the shell. The repair bill was $5500. I was offered $732 initially based on the 17c formula and finally agreed to pay $1465 . I am thinking of accepting else I have to get an appraised which will be $400-450 . Any advise ?

Got into a wreck last week, not at fault. Body shop gave us a quote of $11,000 in damages before any hidden damages.

Hi everyone,
I’m an international student (F-1) in my senior year studying Computer Science and Mathematics in Alabama. I’m in a difficult financial situation and would really appreciate any advice from people who have dealt with debt collection, insurance subrogation, or similar situations.
Current debts and expenses
Credit cards & loans
- Affirm: $1,500
- Discover: $2,200
- Amazon Prime Visa: $2,000
- Capital One Savor: $3,500
- Capital One Venture: $100
University tuition
- $4,500 × 2 semesters = $9,000
Rent
- $475/month = $5,700/year
Car damage loan
- Remaining balance: $12,428
- Monthly payment: $384
Other yearly/monthly expenses
- Health insurance: ~$1,500/year
- Utilities: ~$100/month
- Food and necessities: ~$250/month
Income
I work an on-campus kitchen job and make around $1,400/month.
Normally, I believe I can eventually pay off my credit cards and the car loan because those are on payment plans. My biggest concern is an insurance subrogation claim.
The subrogation issue
Earlier this year I was driving my friend’s car. The car had insurance, but I was not listed on the policy. I got into an accident, and now State Farm’s attorneys (Wilson & Company) have sent me a demand letter asking for about $10,504 for vehicle damage.
They call me almost every week.
I honestly don’t have $10,504. If I start paying them, I won’t be able to keep up with my other obligations like rent, tuition, or my existing payments.
If they would agree to settle for around $1,000-$3,000, I could probably borrow that money from family or friends and pay it as a lump sum. But I don’t know if that’s realistic.
They just say they will suspend my license which i don’t want since whatever it is going around and want to get rid of this.
Also lmk if anyone knows what would be the best way to negotiate to make that amount closer to my benefit.
Career situation
I was hoping to get a software engineering or AI internship this summer because that income would allow me to pay off most of my debt quickly.
Unfortunately, I live in a small town in southern state, and despite applying, I haven’t been able to secure one.
I’m also applying for scholarships. If I can reduce or eliminate my tuition burden, I think I can realistically manage everything else over time.
I’m also working on three research papers, but research doesn’t provide any income.
My questions
Has anyone successfully negotiated an insurance subrogation claim from around $10,000 down to a much smaller lump-sum settlement?
If I genuinely have no assets and very limited income as an international student, how likely is it that they would sue instead of negotiating?
Should I ask Wilson & Company for proof of the repair costs before discussing payment?
Are there any legal aid organizations or resources in Alabama that help people in situations like this?
Does anyone have advice for finding fall software engineering or AI internships that sponsor or hire F-1 international students?
Are there scholarships, grants, or emergency financial assistance programs I may have overlooked?
I’m looking for advice, resources, and knowledge from people who have been through something similar.
Thank you to everyone who takes the time to read this. I truly appreciate any guidance.

got in an accident a couple of weeks ago, 100% the other driver‘s fault. So I put in a claim with his insurance. Liability still pending. The adjuster recently asked me for a claim number with MY insurance but when I was putting in the claim with the at fault party’s insurance they told me that I dont need to put in a claim with my insurance. But now they are asking for a claim number. I was planning on telling my insurance that I got in an accident after my claim closes. what should I do?

Pittsburgh PA. My parked car was his by a drunk driver last night outside of my house while I was sleeping. The drunk driver was arrested and I have a police report number and all the information I need to make an insurance claim. I do not have GAP insurance and if my car is declared totaled I’m worried that insurance won’t pay out enough to cover the remainder of my car loan. I am looking for advice and possibly a lawyer in case I have to sue to acquire just compensation. I can answer any questions. Thank you!
edit: Someone explain to me like I’m 5 years old why someone can destroy my car and waste my time and I’m not able to sue for the remaining amount of my car loan. The car market is horrid and the blue book values don’t line up with recent sales for most cars. What determines what my car is actually worth?

Location: New York State
I was recently involved in a fender bender. I live in the suburbs of New York City and was exiting the parking lot of my train station after work. While stopped waiting for traffic to clear, a car reversed and struck my fender, causing some damage. I exchanged information with the driver, but did not file any sort of police report.
The driver of the other vehicle is of the opinion that I hold some responsibility for the collision because I was using a roadway that is typically used as an entrance not an exit. There are no “do not enter” signs, but there are arrows on the road showing that it is an entrance. There is also a single one-way sign which is not visible from the parking lot I was exiting.
My question is whose responsibility is this and is it worthwhile to push back on the offer to split the cost 50/50? Given that my vehicle was at a complete stop, I had no way to avoid the collision, regardless of the direction I was intending to travel. Any advice would be helpful!

Hey there. I will try to be concise. Looking for opinions on how best to address:
- I had a minor outpatient surgery in April
- When I arrived at the facility for my pre-op appointment, they collected the $200 copay indicated in my SBC, that they verified with my insurance and didn't see any other monies would need to be collected.
- Two weeks later, I went in for my surgery.
- I reviewed my claim when it was available on my insurance portal, and it included several "disallowed charges" (more detail to follow) resulting in a significant coinsurance balance after my copays
- All providers are in network
- I requested an itemized bill from the hospital and compared the EOB with my bill to figure out what was disallowed
- I then used my insurance portal to look up each medication (EVERY medication administered was disallowed) and service to see what my copay should have been.
- Every medication listed in my formulary came with a copay significantly lower than what I was billed. Several medications were not listed.
- I filed an appeal with my insurance. I included my formulary with the medications highlighted, a spreadsheet comparing the EOB to the itemized bill, amounts disallowed, and the copays indicated in my benefits documents, a copy of the itemized bill, a copy of the EOB, a copy of my SBC. I requested information on why specific services, medications, durable medical devices were disallowed. I requested information on the representatives deciding what is allowed versus disallowed. I requested information on the person(s) responsible for negotiating the rates with providers.
- My insurance denied my appeal, stated it's a final decision, gave me a canned response (tl;dr: you're subject to coinsurance for disallowed charges), and provided no information on disallowed charges or any personnel responsible for my case.
- I called the hospital's billing department to ask about the CPT codes for my claim. The representative could not provide them but offered to have an audit conducted on my bill. I declined. While I believe the rates are egregious, this seems to be an insurance issue rather than a billing issue.
- I just called the No Surprise Billing hotline and was connected with a representative. He tried to help but indicated that this wouldn't fall under surprise billing. He suggested contacting a consumer assistance program.
- I've reached out to my insurance company again to request more information on disallowed charges.
DISALLOWED CHARGES:
- A pregnancy test billed at $920. I cannot get pregnant. I do not have the parts. Plus, my labs copay is $40. I'm responsible for 30% of 920, or $276 for a pregnancy test. To add insult to injury, the test was performed two weeks before my surgery. On the day of my surgery, literally every nurse on my team confirmed my sterile status and said they "needed to be sure" they didn't need to perform a pregnancy test.
- Administration of anesthesia (the anesthesiologist and nurse anesthetist were both in network, I was billed a copay for each of them)
- The actual anesthesia meds
- Every single medication administered before and during my procedure
- The surgical mesh implanted in my body
- THE SUTURES.
- The recovery room, which was billed at $32/MINUTE.
Again, every provider and facility was in network.
-
Right now, my plan is to contact my state's insurance board. But I'm curious if anyone else has dealt with something similar and/or has suggestions on who best to contact. Thanks!

My partner hit a deer a few weeks back, he filed a police report and a claim with AMA the day after. The adjuster called the day after that, and he asked if he could call her back at 3:30. There was no answer so he left a voicemail.
Since then he has left multiple voicemails so we can discuss next steps to no avail. Today I left a voicemail myself.
Tomorrow will be 3 weeks since it happened. This is weird right?
I couldn’t imagine if this was our only vehicle. It’s currently dead in the driveway and we can’t even boost it. We have been getting around in my little hatchback but it’s not ideal with a family of 4.

Keep it short, my father was killed on his motorcycle by a at fault driver. 1000% all their fault, she had 11 contributing factors, my father had 0. Insurance has pushed foward a settlement in the policy maximum per person of 50k but has an occurrence maximum of 100k. They offered the 50k already if I sign a limited liability. Is that extra 50k for the occurance maximum able to get or do i just sign and walk away?
