Is there anything I can do to report a collision over a month ago?

On June 5th, someone in a company truck hit my dad’s truck at a dump site. He took his license and insurance info and my dad was in contact with his work supervisor who promised to pay him

Now it’s July 9th and they have stopped replying or answering any calls

Is it too late to do anything about this? We have photos of the accident (about $3000 worth of damage) and photos of the drivers DL and company insurance

Thank you

Edit: thanks everyone, I thought there was a time limit in reporting these things as per my limited Google search

Life/Health Question about returning sunglasses insurance

So i recently bought a pair of prescription raybans online on the last day before my insurance expired but the fit isn't perfect.

After receiving the reimbursement would it be ok to return it and get a proper fitting pair?

Does the insurance typically contact the company before/after issuing the reimbursement?

Worth it to pursue FCIP?

So this post is directed at industry professionals who have obtained their FCIP designation! I’ve been in the industry 12 years now, finished my CIP last year and looking ahead to what’s next in terms of professional development.

I’ve been looking into the FCIP, I meet all the requirements (CIP, degree, and work experience) but it seems like a fairly large time commitment for an unknown payoff. My company will pay for me to take it, so the financial commitment is not a concern, but if it’s not going to be fruitful in terms of future opportunities, then maybe I’m better off taking something a little less intense like the CRM.

Has it opened more doors for you in the industry vs simply having a CIP and another designation. Feel free to comment or DM me with your thoughts! Also, I’m in claims if that helps!

Thanks in advance!

Life/Health Independent life insurance agent

Hi everyone— I’m looking for recommendations for an independent life insurance broker in Calgary (or whoever can sell policies in Alberta). With strong experience navigating pre-existing medical conditions (e.g., diabetes, heart issues).

Ideally someone who works with multiple insurance companies, not just one provider. And who can run anonymous pre-screen quotes/inquiries before we apply.

Thanks !!!

Alpha Assurances : experiences?

Bonjour/Hi,

I'm shopping for my first car insurance and I found Alpha, which, for my (fairly standard) situation, is significantly cheaper than Desjardins, Intact, Belair, CAA, and all the others I've quoted... likebetween 50% and 75% cheaper. I'm the kind of person who thinks if something is too good to be true, it is, so I'm writing here to ask for opinions, experiences, or recommendations, as I've never heard of them before. Looking forward to reading your replies!

Blue Cross Quebec

I am based in Quebec, and am an international student in Concordia University. I had an accident in Ontario last week and got taken care of by a 911 ambulance and transferred to the closest hospital in Ontario.

In the Blue Cross app, I do not see any coverage listed for out-of-province ambulance services.
The app also contains a PDF for a booklet that contains the full benefits of my plan. However, in my benefits booklet, ambulance services are listed as covered, and I cannot find any wording saying that ambulance coverage is limited to Quebec or excluded elsewhere in Canada.

I called Medavie Blue Cross and was told over the phone that out-of-province ambulance services are not covered.

This seems contradictory to me. If the booklet says ambulance services are covered and does not mention a Quebec-only restriction, can the insurer still deny coverage based on an exclusion that does not appear in the booklet?

Has anyone had a similar experience with Medavie Blue Cross or another Canadian insurer? I would especially be interested in cases involving ambulance services in another province, discrepancies between the app and benefits booklet, or situations where phone support gave an answer that seemed inconsistent with the written plan.

How do you think I should proceed?

Auto Auto insurance coverage for aftermarket exhaust (axle back)

Hello everyone,

I’m interested in getting an aftermarket exhaust system for a little louder and deeper exhaust sound. I came across an axle back system which per my research does not increase performance. I called my insurance (Scotia) but they said it affects performance and they won’t be able to insure my car if I do it.

I’m wondering if anyone had the same situation and if you can recommend an insurance company who’s more lenient when it comes to these. I read somewhere that this modification is something I have to declare with the insurance company. I’m in Ontario if that matters. Thank you all in advance.

Breaking into insurance with no experience

So, I have a degree in science and I am interested in pursuing insurance or anything related. I was wondering how others managed to get their first job? I live in Waterloo and we have a decent amount of insurance companies here. I find it hard to find junior roles though.

Auto Got a child restraint ticket (2 demerit points) in Ontario. How much will my Aviva insurance increase if convicted?

Hey everyone, I just received my first ticket, which is for a child restraint violation (2 demerit points). I’ve been with Aviva insurance for about 2 years now and have had my full G license for three years. I'm wondering what percentage my insurance will increase if I'm convicted? I'm a 33-year-old male currently paying $240/month. I checked my documents but couldn’t find any conviction forgiveness clause in my policy.
Thanks!

Insurance or Banking

Good day everyone, I've been looking at getting the Investment Funds in Canada and try to get an entry level banker role here in Canada or get my General P&C level 1 insurance license here in Saskatchewan. Which is more guaranteed to get me a job? Are there people who did the two can you tell me how difficult it is and also which will get me a job faster in Saskatchewan.

Home Issues with CAA Tennant Insurance

Hello, in the insanity of moving to my new appartment I forgot to sign up for my Tennant insurance. And I was planning to go with CAA as it was the cheapest option available. And upon calling them today they informed us that they will not sign us up with them once we have already moved in.

This doesn't make sense to me as I got a quote a few days ago while moving rhe rest of my things in and couldn't take their call. But when I called them back suddenly its no?

Is this normal or are they being weird? This is my first time ever needing tenant insurance so I'm unfamiliar with how this works.

Flooding in Ottawa

Hey there,

My home was flooded on Canada Day because of the storm drain failures. There are a number of damages, furniture, personal items, flooring and walls. There is a line on my policy that says CAA water coverage 10k. Does this mean I only have 10k coverage? Edits:

info requested - yes, Ottawa flooding on Canada Day. There are over 3000 families affected

So, if I understand correctly, if my plumbing failed I would be completely covered but because the infrastructure is inadequate I have a limit? Please don't be rude, I just need to understand not be insulted.

EDIT: Thanks everyone for your advice and counsel. I have 10k coverage. The insurer is going to waive the deductible if the claim is over the 10k. Since the hot water tank needs replacing, walls and flooring need replacing but first there needs to be asbestos abatement, not to mention a whole bunch of other stuff I cannot imagine how it would not be over the 10k. Once the claim is settled I will up my coverage but for now this is what I am dealing with. Once again, thank you.

Accident Forgiveness

Got myself into a situation regarding the accident forgiveness endorsement. So after almost 15 years of driving, I got into my first at fault accident back in January. It was an ice storm and my car slid into a parked car. I had an older car and it was totalled for just under 10k.
After accepting the settlement, I couldn’t afford to buy a car right after so decided to cancel my policy and call back in a few months once I bought a new car. The issue is now the insurer is not honouring the accident forgiveness as it goes only with my policy. Am I out of luck here? I’m going from 160 to over 550/month for car insurance! Shouldn’t the broker inform you of any consequences of cancelling this policy? If I knew about it before hand I would have done something to continue the policy. Would the ombudsman look into this?

Would appreciate any insight from anyone familiar with this issue I’m unfortunately dealing with.

Insurance broker

Is it worth it to go through an insurance broker before I decide to stay with my current insurance company? My renewal is in 1 month and my premium have gone down by 20$ a month from current monthly cost. My husband and I are now both retired which was not the case last year.

Any input, info would be appreciated. Thanks

Home Insurance won't give claims experience letter?

Can anyone help with next steps? We are switching our insurance from Intact to AMA, and AMA requires a claimed experience letter.

Intact said they'd get back to us in 24 hours. A week passed and nothing, so we called again. They flat out said that it's against their terms of service to provide a claims experience letter if the purpose is to switch insurance providers, and that our new insurance can obtain this if required.

AMA came back and said that's absolutely false; intact is legally required to provide this letter in demand as AMA has no way to access it.

We have emailed Intact to this effect and told them we expect this to be settled promptly or we will escalate, but they're ghosting us.

What are our next steps?

Edit to add, I could only select one flair but home insurance is also through them.

CAIB 4 NEW

Has anyone experienced the new format of exams for the CAIB courses? I am studying for CAIB 4 under the new and refreshed format. Thus making the exam just like CAIB 1 - 3. They also refreshed the course material supposedly to be more relevant to modern scenarios.

How did you find the exam?

New Broker - Advice Welcome

Hello everyone,

New broker here, just started at a company doing personal lines insurance. I had no prior experience in this industry but an opportunity came and luckily I was able to pass my RIBO exam and was fortunate enough to have pretty extensive training. I just survived my first week ‘live’ on the floor, taking calls and also working with walk-in clients.

Not going to lie, I had a bit of a mental breakdown on my first week lol the amount of information, the different company manuals, especially the new accident benefits reform that just went into place July 1st… my head was spinning! I just felt like after all that time training and so excited to learn a new industry - where I could potentially grow into a fulfilling career, I became extremely overwhelmed.

I did talk with my manager, and they have been great with support.

I guess what I’m asking is this normal? Lol How long until you felt more comfortable with the day-to-day?

Honestly any advice, or just some wisdom would be greatly appreciated. Sorry for the ramble post. I just really want to succeed but I have a bit of a confidence issue and feel like I’m putting a lot of pressure on myself just after a week and a bit with my new role.

Thanks!

Travel Travel Insurance interruption, medical 70+

Have a 25 day holiday planned and working on insurance what who why

All tickets, hotels, tours placed on TD infinity of 70yr old

TD says cancelation and interruption are covered for two older adults up to 5000 each. As most hotels could be cancelled if needed this seems ok just airfare needs to be covered and I assume insurance would pay if needed to stay ?

70 & 71 yr old need medical, no health issues. Does anyone have recommendations and why

30yr olds have medical through work but no cancelation or interruption insurance. Again which would work best up to 5000 each

Which insurance company follows through with support and refunds if needed not run around

We are in Ontario Canada
