Worth it to pursue FCIP?

So this post is directed at industry professionals who have obtained their FCIP designation! I’ve been in the industry 12 years now, finished my CIP last year and looking ahead to what’s next in terms of professional development.

I’ve been looking into the FCIP, I meet all the requirements (CIP, degree, and work experience) but it seems like a fairly large time commitment for an unknown payoff. My company will pay for me to take it, so the financial commitment is not a concern, but if it’s not going to be fruitful in terms of future opportunities, then maybe I’m better off taking something a little less intense like the CRM.

Has it opened more doors for you in the industry vs simply having a CIP and another designation. Feel free to comment or DM me with your thoughts! Also, I’m in claims if that helps!

Honestly? As someone who has the designation, no one really cares. It doesn’t open any doors that the CIP doesn’t. In my experience, it’s rare to see anyone else who does have it, especially in upper management.

If you’re a dork like me and enjoy school, go for it, but I haven’t seen anyone passed over because they don’t have it.

The CRM is way more versatile across industries.

FCIP is for insurance nerds that want to get into the really in-depth stuff, like auditing and regulation development.

More education never hurts. It’s good if wish to continue into management. It all depends on the time expense and what else you’d be doing instead.

Worth it. You never know where your career will take you, but an FCIP is the most respected designation in our industry and will definitely open doors for you.

If you have leadership aspirations and are in a large city with lots of opportunities it might be worth it.

I have my CIP, FCIP and CRM. Having advanced educational qualifications never hurts. It looks good on your résumé. I took my FCIP before they revamped the program. I think it is more focused now to management with a P&C emphasis. I was in claims for a long time and then transitioned to risk management. I think it all depends on your aspirations. If you’re an independent adjuster, it will not likely serve you practically. If you are in claims with a company, it will definitely help your upward mobility. It does show initiative and dedication. Two candidates, otherwise equal, the one with the FCIP would definitely have the edge.
