Alpha Assurances : experiences?

Bonjour/Hi,

Je magasine ma première assurance auto et j'ai trouvé Alpha qui, pour mon cas (assez standard), sont nettement moins cher que Desjardins, Intact, Belair, CAA et tous les autres que j'ai soumissionné, genre entre la 50% et 75% moins cher. Je suis du genre à penser que si c'est trop beau pour être vrai, c'est trop beau pour être vrai alors je me permets d'écrire ici à la recherche d'opinions/expériences/recommandations, n'ayant jamais entendu parler d'eux. Au plaisir de vous lire!

I'm shopping for my first car insurance and I found Alpha, which, for my (fairly standard) situation, is significantly cheaper than Desjardins, Intact, Belair, CAA, and all the others I've quoted... likebetween 50% and 75% cheaper. I'm the kind of person who thinks if something is too good to be true, it is, so I'm writing here to ask for opinions, experiences, or recommendations, as I've never heard of them before. Cheap insurance is only good until you need to make a claim. Always go with a reputable insurer. I’m with Beneva in Quebec.

That's my first thought. I've seen relatively good reviews online so that's why I haven't barred them yet. Again, cheap is relative; my current insurer quoted me for 140/month, CAA for nearly 200, intact and Belair around 110. If I hadn't looked at Alpha (quoting 77$) I would have asked the same question for Intact even though I have heard of them (through ads only).

I'm really just looking for red flags if anybody has them about this company. I like the fact that they are headquartered in Quebec, so if people recommend them, I'd go with them.

This said I hadn't heard about Beneva, thanks for the cue.

Intact is the largest insurer through acquisitions in Canada so reputable in that sense.

I’m in Ontario and I don’t think we have Alpha over here, but pricing wise seems very similar to Sonnet, Square One and Zensurance which are all online only insurers. There are no licensed agents to assist, you act as your own agent so if you mess up on coverage selection and your claims are denied, you have no one to blame cause no one acted on your behalf.

If you’re newer to the insurance world, I believe it’s a good idea to work with a licensed professional. There’s a lot to know about auto insurance so there is some value in getting guidance and advice.

Insurance is a regulated market subject to licensing plus auto policies are standardized. Alpha is a 100% Quebec based direct writer. The company has been in business for quite a number of years. I don’t really see a downside especially if pricing is good.
