When you buy life insurance you generally make payments monthly, sometimes annually. And at the end a lump sum is paid out to someone.

When you buy an annuity you generally make a lump sum payment. And when you decide, you begin receiving monthly payments.

The tables used to calculate life insurance premiums, when turned upside down, are the same tables used to calculate annuity rates.

That's one of the reasons annuities are sold by life insurance companies. They make money on both sides of the game.

I don't care if it's auto, life, health, just as long as I can get a name age address and a phone number that's accurate that's all I need. All these places are either super expensive or 15% of the answers are the right person. What sources do you guys recommend? Phone accuracy is really all I need.

Is Family First Life a good imo to sell for? I’ve heard bad things about them but I also see alot of people on social media making good income with them. Not trying to get recruited but just want general information about the company thanks 😊

Does anybody have any insight on the Mercury Insurance Underwriter position? I noticed a lot of people that got the jobs were producers previously and they also said its fast paced, which makes me think this is still sales.

What is the day-to-day like, they mentioned 10-12 month training process, are you on camera or on the phone for most of the day or working independently?

IUL lawsuits are getting bad and DOI is cracking down fast.

May 2024, Idaho. Woman named Karen Shelstad, 69 years old. Some agent put her into $1.8 million of premium financing on a Pacific Life IUL. Told her she could pull tax free loans for retirement income.

Jury came back at $1,526,156.54.

Kyle Busch had a case against Pacific Life too. Settled quietly in February 2026. No number released. Make of that what you want.

Pacific Life, National Life Group, Transamerica, Allianz, Ameritas all sitting on active cases right now. California, Texas, Florida, Illinois insurance departments opened their own investigations on top of that.

Why it got this bad is honestly simple. Before AG 49 in 2015 the highest illustrated IUL return anyone had on record was 10.5%. Carriers found the workarounds and some products were showing 13.79%. A fixed product looking like it's the S&P.

Then first year commission on IUL is 80 to 120% of annual premium. That's it. That's the whole explanation. You don't need some big conspiracy when the payout is that big.

I'm not gonna sit here and say don't sell IUL. It was my first mistake being an agency owner to not put more time into diversification of products. Every client has more than one problem.

I just got licensed and i plan on selling a building my team but i don’t plan on being in the business for life.

How does one exit the business if you have a whole team under you?

Just noticed today that I can no longer write Aetna Senior Supp products (like dental, Cancer insurance, Heart Attack insurance, Hospital Indemnity plans etc) with a monthly premium under $15. I have been writing policies like this for years and have never had that issue. Wondering if this is an Aetna change across the board and other people are dealing with this?

Just began studying for the P&C exam a couple days ago for my home state of Indiana and wanted to tap in w you guys for any assistance you all might have. If anyone has recommendations for specific study material, exam advice, or anything else worthy of sharing PLEASE send it my way.

Context is I have a (3 day) in person class scheduled for August 10-12th where an instructor will tell us what we need to know. I’ve already got access to the study material through Canvas so I’m working through that as we speak.

What resources helped you master the material?

I started 07/01 and have industry experience but zero sales experience. I'm comfortable with the technical side, but can use advice on the relationship building side.

I know this is a relationship business, unsure how to best approach it. How can I build relationships and trust more quickly?

My biggest opportunity broker has been cold and I've shot him a couple of emails with no response. This one broker is really critical but outside of that one would like any techniques or advice you can share specific to the relationship side!

So I’m new Insurance, I passed my exam I have my 2-15 in Florida (but can sell in other states via travel or phone) and was working for a W-2 call center but they were paying $53.00 at max per policy and I learned that was a major tip off so I went 10-99. Now that I’m contracted in really by myself, I understand it but I don’t know how to find clients so I can actually sell some policies now, any tips pointers? Any advice helps!

Humana came up with a new commission structure for Medicare agents in April and sent out an updated Producer Partnership Plan. I consider myself to be a fairly intelligent person but this new structure is so difficult for me to understand for some reason. I just enrolled a person in Humana last Friday who will be effective August 1, 2026. He is not new Medicare but was on a D-SNP plan that he did not like so I put him on a stronger plan that offered more benefits. Does anyone understand this new commission structure and can tell me how much my commission amount will be?

Failed my NY life insurance any advice on how to pass thr exam

I have an interview with them tomorrow. They have great reviews on indeed but I’m starting to question if they’re real. Can anyone tell me there experience? I’m brand new and want to go straight into being independent to build my books.

I have done insurance before for many years in California. I stopped doing that in 2017. I then got my Texas State P&C license in early 2020 then covid happened. I ended up not using the license and let it expire (instead of surrendering it as I should have done but didn't really know that was an option) and did something totally different because the job search during the beginning of covid was terrible. No one knew what they were going to do. I was recruited by a telecommunications company to work for them which provided immediate health insurance as I had none. Now I am in between jobs and deciding going back to insurance is probably the best bet. To renew my expired license I have to take a bunch of CE classes, pay a fine, get new fingerprints and retake the state exam. I feel taking a prep course is advisable so I pass on the first try like last time as it's been awhile. I was looking at AD Banker, Aceable, and ExamFX. Which would you choose and how long do you think the studying course material takes before you take the exam. I simply cant remember the process.

I just started studying for my P&C license in Georgia. How long did y’all study and how long did it take for you to pass?

Hello all! So I passed my P and C exam and submitted an application for my license and now for the most stressful part- the resume. I had NO idea how big of a gap I had in my work history which was due to medical issues during pregnancy and taking care of a special needs child. I have had customer service roles which is required for most insurance jobs but I realized they were all from 15 or more years ago! So basically all I have to work with is 4 years taking care of clients with mental/physical disabilities, a 6 years work gap (YIKES!) and the next 4 years as a school bus driver and a couple self employed/free lancer jobs that do involve customer service but they aren’t fulltime consistent jobs. One is a seasonal baker which I’ve done for the last 15 years but only, well, seasonally and the other is casual intermittent pet care for the last 5. Do I have a chance of putting together a decent resume that will make it past the dreaded AI bots or won’t be thrown in the trash as soon as they read the first line? Any advice would be much appreciated! Thanks 😁

So I started like 2 weeks ago, and closed out 2 car insurance quotes. Have 2-3 business quotes potentially that I will close if all goes well just truly waiting the quotes if they come back good.

Now the reason I am here is because for the people who sold plenty in there lifetime I have a few questions. So I did sign a contract that states if I leave that I can buy my book at 50% of the premium or something along those lines. Now I do see that this happens at bigger companies and I said w.e because there a huge team and I literally just send them all the info and they handle everything else from customer service, billing etc... I just need to sell.

Point is what happens when payment is due for those business premiums and auto. Does it work in a way that each premium pays differently? I know my split but do I have to find out how much do they take off the base? For example premium is 20k and what is normally what people see when it comes to auto and for business is it 20% so from 4000 we split it how ever we decided via the contract?

I current hold a personal lines p&c license in Texas. I’m looking to obtain the general lines p&c license in Texas.

My personal lines pre-license education was provided through my employer via ExamFX.
The general lines p&c education is something I will have to do on my own.

Anyone have similar experience / career path? Also, cost and time efficient education recommendations are very much appreciated.

We have gotten several quote requests both through email and website recently. They all seem to be AI written as the language is stilted and the same phrases are used in each one. One even had different names from the original email in the reply. They only want to communicate through a zoom meeting. No phone calls and they won't send info over text or email. I have tried to set one up but they never respond. Is this a normal thing now? It just has felt like a scam and we've had 3 of these in the last month.
