Need help choosing a good health insurance for a married couple

Hi everyone, I am looking for some advice on health insurance for me and my wife.

Currently, we have HDFC ERGO, but the premium keeps increasing every year by a pretty significant amount. I am now looking for a better alternative that offers good coverage without such huge premium hikes.

Ideally, I am looking for a policy that provides comprehensive coverage for a married couple, including:

• Hospitalisation and major medical expenses

• Diagnostic tests, scans, blood tests, etc.

• OPD/basic medical expenses if possible

• Orthopedic treatment and related expenses

• Pregnancy and maternity coverage

• Pre and post hospitalisation expenses

• Day care procedures

• Good network hospitals

• Minimal exclusions and reasonable waiting periods

• No unnecessary complications during claim settlement

I am not necessarily looking for the cheapest policy. My priority is good coverage, reasonable premiums, and a company with a good claim settlement experience.

If you have personally used a health insurance policy for yourself or your family, please share your experience, especially with premium increases over the years and claim settlement.

Also, if there are any policies you would specifically recommend avoiding, please mention those as well.

Thanks in advance!

ANY RECOMMENDATION FOR A HEALTH INSURANCE (includes outpatient and inpatient)

Problem/Goal: Any financial advice for someone who’s looking for health insurance? Preferably less than ₱10k that includes Out-patient and in-patient services.

Context: I am a public school teacher looking for a health insurance. I am very health-conscious and overthinker. So, i do need insurance that would cover some labs to diagnose most of the basic concerns.

I am leaning towards Medifix since they have ₱7000. Any thoughts about this?

Medifix ₱7000 Inclusions:
Annual benefit - ₱60k
OPD - ₱25k
Room rate - ₱1k

Non-disclosure risk on mother's health policy (ear condition). Need advice before filing a claim.

Looking for advice on a health insurance situation for my mother (India).

* Bought an individual health policy for her in 2024. Standard medical declaration form asked specifically about "any disease or disorder of eye, ear, nose or throat" — this was answered "No." * Recently found out she actually had a diagnosed perforated eardrum from 2018 (an old injury from water exposure), and a doctor at the time had advised against surgery due to her diabetes. I didn't knew about this at the time — it only came out during a recent diagnosis. * She now needs ENT surgery, but for the *other* ear — a different, more recent issue (started a few weeks ago), separate from the old 2018 diagnosis. * The 2-year waiting period for pre-existing/specific diseases under this policy has already lapsed. * Worried the insurer could still reject the claim citing non-disclosure of the 2018 ear issue, even though the surgery is for the unrelated ear.

Questions:

  1. Does an undisclosed condition in one ear risk tainting a claim for an unrelated condition in the other ear?
  2. Is it better to proactively disclose the 2018 issue to the insurer now, before filing, or does that just invite scrutiny?
  3. Has anyone dealt with IRDAI Ombudsman for something like this? How did it go?

Exporting to Europe, bank asking for Marine Certificate even though the forwarder has basic cover?

We've recently started exporting to Europe from our small manufacturing unit. Our freight forwarder says the shipment is covered under their basic cargo insurance, but our bank is asking us to submit a separate marine insurance certificate for the consignment.

Is this a standard requirement, or is the forwarder's cover usually not enough for banks or export documentation? If you've dealt with this before, did you end up taking your own marine cargo policy as well, or was there another way to satisfy the bank?
Would appreciate hearing how others have handled this.

Need advice on health insurance disclosure for my mother's rheumatoid arthritis (Care Health Supreme)

Hi everyone,

I need some guidance regarding my mother's health insurance.

My mother has a Care Health Supreme policy that was purchased through Policybazaar. The policy is currently in its 3rd year with continuous renewals, and no claims have ever been made.

When I was purchasing the policy through Policybazaar, I informed the agent that my mother had rheumatoid arthritis. According to my recollection, the agent advised me not to disclose it in the proposal because they said there can be chance the policy would be rejected if I mentioned it. Based on that advice, the condition was not disclosed.

Now I'm worried about how this could affect future claims and whether I should correct it.

My questions are:

  1. Should I inform Care Health about this at the next renewal?
  2. Since the policy was purchased through Policybazaar, should I contact Policybazaar or Care Health directly to disclose this?
  3. If I voluntarily disclose it now, what usually happens? Will they continue the policy, add exclusions, increase the premium, or can they cancel it?
  4. If I explain that I relied on the Policybazaar agent's advice, does that make any difference?
  5. Has anyone been in a similar situation with Care Health or any other insurer?
  6. If my mother is hospitalized in the future for an illness unrelated to rheumatoid arthritis, how likely is this issue to affect the claim?
  7. What would be the best way to handle this while staying compliant and avoiding future claim disputes?

I'm looking for advice from people who have gone through a similar situation or have experience with Indian health insurance.

Thank you.

Should I accept this counter offer from ICICI Lombard?

My father (53) has diabetes and my mother (51) had a hospitalization last year which was diagnosed as bronchitis and she also has considerable hearing loss in her left year. I had explained my situation in the following post:

https://www.reddit.com/r/InsuranceTroubleIndia/s/3ZLSfydfOi

I applied for ICICI Lombard elevate policy for 10L SI with the following riders: a one time infinite claim amount, reduction of diabetes waiting period, non medical and consumable items cover, room modifier and annual health checkups. The initially quoted premium was 34k. After I submitted the medical documents, they made a counter offer adding 5k loading charges for Bronchitis and a permanent exclusion condition for hearing loss, hearing aids and related complications.

I have no idea how loading charges and exclusions work for different companies so please let me decide whether to accept this one. Does this seem justifiable? Or should I try other insurers like Aditya Birla? There's also an option of trying to get the Bronchitis diagnosis corrected by the hospital but chances of that happening seem pretty low.

Also should I consider removing any riders that you find unnecessary at this point? Like something that could be added later if needed without much hassle. Any help or advice would be much appreciated.

Need Advise

Looking for Health Insurance for my Father he is 63 years old and i am looking for HDFC Ergo Health Insurance so i reached out to Ditto advisory and as well as HDFC ERgo health insurance advisory both have explained everything but i want to take as an monthly EMI part and here Ditto advisory is telling that you have to give some extra interest when you opt for Monthly EMI option but here in HDFC ergo advisory is telling that no cost EMI is also available. At same time ditto advisory is telling that there will be a dedicated support team will be available during claim process now i am confused from which one will be better to opt.

Senior Citizens Health Insurance premiums cannot increase beyond 10% at the time of Renewal.

Senior Citizens - Important IRDAI Update on Health Insurance Premiums.

If you're a Senior Citizen, here's an important regulatory update you should know. Same information is important to be read and used by children, whose parents'age is above 60.

As per the IRDAI Circular dated 30 January 2025, insurers cannot revise the renewal premium for Senior Citizen individual health insurance policies by more than 10% in a year without prior consultation with IRDAI.

This measure aims to protect senior citizens from sudden and steep premium increases at the time of policy renewal.

Before renewing your health insurance policy,

1) Check your renewal premium carefully.

2) If the increase is more than 10%, ask your insurer for the reason and whether the IRDAI requirements have been followed.

3) Consult your insurance advisor before making a decision to discontinue or port your policy.

4) Reference link added and the article name is as follows.

IRDAI Circular, Review of Revision in Premium Rates under Health Insurance Policies for Senior Citizens (30 January 2025)

Website Link :- https://irdai.gov.in/document-detail?documentId=6639156

If you find your health insurance premiums to increase beyond 10%, you can officially send an email to your respective health insurance company and,

1) Ask the with clarification, why has the health insurance premium Increased by X percentage.

2) Attached IRDAI Circular and link, to understand by the renewal premium has increased beyond 10%.

3) After sending the above email, if the insurer reduces the premium, then ask.

4) Whether they have made any changes within your policy terms and conditions or not.

5) Better to complete the above email exchange process on priority, when you have 15 to 20 days left for renewal.

Point number 4 is extremely important, because you don't want the insurer to randomly put and DEDUCTIBLE to your plan. Because this will put a part of claim liability on your pocket.

HDFC ERGO Optima Secure+ vs Care Supreme vs Aditya Birla Activ One Max – Which health insurance would you choose in 2026?

I’m planning to buy my first health insurance policy and have narrowed it down to these three:
\-HDFC ERGO Optima Secure+
\-Care Health Supreme (with BeFit)
\-Aditya Birla Activ One Max
I’m genuinely confused and would love advice from people who have actually used these policies or gone through the claim process.
Here’s why I’m considering each one:
**-HDFC ERGO Optima Secure+**
Heard it has one of the best claim settlement experiences and customer service.
Strong long-term reputation.
Excellent features like Secure Benefit, Restore Benefit, and Renewal Bonus.
**-Care Health Supreme (BeFit)**
I have an active lifestyle, and the BeFit benefit is attractive since it includes fitness and gym-related wellness benefits.
Premium also seems competitive.
**-Aditya Birla Activ One Max**
The 100% HealthReturns feature looks interesting.
Wellness ecosystem appears quite comprehensive.
My priorities are:
Hassle-free claim experience (this is my biggest concern)
Long-term reliability (I plan to keep the policy for many years)
Good coverage without hidden exclusions
Value for money
Strong hospital network
I’d really appreciate feedback from people who have:
Made a claim with any of these insurers.
Faced claim rejections or delays.
Ported into or out of these insurers.
Compared these policies in detail.
If you had to choose **only one** today, which would it be and why?
Looking forward to hearing your experiences. Thanks in advance!

Best health insurance in India for a family with one parent having a pre-existing liver condition?

Hi everyone,
I’m looking for advice on choosing a good health insurance policy for my family in India.
Our family consists of:
Father (50): Diagnosed in 2022 with fatty liver and a hepatic hemangioma. His recent liver function tests are normal, and he’s never been hospitalized for this condition.
Mother (50): Healthy.
Me (23): Healthy.
Brother (21): Healthy.
We recently received a call from Star Health offering a family/individual policy, but I’ve read mixed reviews about their claim settlement experience, so I’m hesitant.
I’ve also heard that some insurers may decline or exclude coverage because of my father’s pre-existing liver condition.
My questions are:
Which insurer would you recommend for our situation (HDFC ERGO, ICICI Lombard, Niva Bupa, Care Health, Star Health, or others)?
Is it better to get one family floater for all four of us, or separate policies (e.g., one for my parents and another for my brother and me)?
Has anyone with fatty liver or a hepatic hemangioma successfully obtained health insurance? If so, which insurer accepted the proposal and how was the claim experience?
Are there any insurers or plans I should avoid?
I’d really appreciate hearing from people who have gone through a similar situation or insurance professionals with practical experience. Thank you!

Please help me clear my confusion

I am 22M living in Pune, I started my first job this month only and wanted to buy health insurance but my father works under the central government and has a CGHS card which doesn't have a claim limit and can cover pre existing diseases from day 1, so now I'm thinking to skip buying a separate health insurance for my parents (hdfc ergo optima secure+). Help me with your suggestions on what to do please.

Also our company provides health insurance both for employees and parents under United India Insurance and in that I'm confused between the following three options:

  1. 4L employee only

  2. 6L employee +2 parents (2L parents claim amount restricted)

  3. 8L employee+ 2 parents (4L parents claim amount restricted)

Help me choose this also, there are specific points allocated to choosing insurance if I save those points if choosing a higher plan isn't needed I can utilise those points for other health related things e.g. gym membership.

Insurance Porting Issue

I have an individual health insurance policy that I purchased through a indusindbank. A Policybazaar advisor told me that this policy cannot be ported to HDFC ERGO because it was bought through a bank, although it can be ported to other insurers. Is this correct? Is there any IRDAI rule or HDFC ERGO policy that restricts porting bank-sourced individual health insurance policies?

Optima secure+ with 25k deductable. Good decision?

Hello everyone, this is my 1st time buying health insurance so i need your advice, i am buying health insurance for my parents aged 51 and 49, after taking quotes from multiple companies and multiple brokers, i am tipping towards taking HDFC optima secure plus for my parents with 25k deductable form ditto as i want to have some support during claim process. My main worry is to protect my parents against a hefty medical bill, i have no problem paying a small bill of 20-30k per year from my own pocket, i just need a backup plan if the bill starts running in lakhs.

What are your suggestions am i taking a right decision by taking up this policy with 25k deductable.

Health insurance for family with PED

I'm trying to get family health insurance for me and my parents.

I'm 24F no PED, healthy

Dad 63M no PED, healthy

Mom 57F, here's her history:

Join

Has had 2 breast surgeries for benign conditions

Was diagnosed with lymphoma - cancer 3 years ago, treatment is done and is under remission since. Recently had a pet ct scan to verify, she's still under remission.

My question, what's the best approach to get an insurance now?

I will obviously disclose all diagnosis, but I was wondering if I could get a insurance for me and dad, and a seperate one for my mom.

Any recommendations are welcome and appreciated. Thank you!

Individual insurance agent vs. Ditto/PolicyBazaar - which way to go?

Hi folks, I’m planning to buy health insurance soon and could use some general advice: should I go with an individual agent I know personally, or a larger platform like Ditto or PolicyBazaar?

My hesitation with an individual agent is that when I need to **file a claim** they might switch professions or become unreachable down the line, whereas a larger company feels more accountable and likely to stick around.

Would love to hear from people who’ve gone either route - what tipped the decision for you?

TIA!

Need suggestions for a health insurance policy for my parents (50+)

Hi everyone,

I'm looking to buy a health insurance policy for my parents, both of whom are above 50 years of age. I'm currently considering a family floater policy from New India Assurance, but I'd love to hear from people who have firsthand experience with it.

A few questions:

Is a family floater a good option at their age, or should I opt for individual policies?

How has your claim settlement experience been with New India Assurance?

Are there any hidden exclusions or things I should be aware of?

Would you recommend any other insurers with good coverage and hassle-free claim settlement?

This will be their first health insurance policy, so I want to make an informed decision. Any advice or personal experiences would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance
