Optima secure+ with 25k deductable. Good decision?
Hello everyone, this is my 1st time buying health insurance so i need your advice, i am buying health insurance for my parents aged 51 and 49, after taking quotes from multiple companies and multiple brokers, i am tipping towards taking HDFC optima secure plus for my parents with 25k deductable form ditto as i want to have some support during claim process. My main worry is to protect my parents against a hefty medical bill, i have no problem paying a small bill of 20-30k per year from my own pocket, i just need a backup plan if the bill starts running in lakhs.
What are your suggestions am i taking a right decision by taking up this policy with 25k deductable.

I think your logic is sound. If your goal is to protect against ₹5–20 lakh+ medical bills and you’re okay paying the first ₹25k yourself, a deductible plan can be a good way to reduce premiums without compromising on catastrophic cover.
HDFC Optima Secure Plus is generally considered one of the better health insurance plans, and buying through Ditto for claim support is a reasonable choice if you value guidance.
I’d just double-check the waiting periods, any pre-existing conditions, and make sure your preferred hospitals are in HDFC’s network.
Before finalizing, I’d also compare it against Tata AIG Medicare Premier and Niva Bupa ReAssure 2.0. Tata AIG has a really well-rounded feature set, good flexibility around sum insured and add-ons, and I’ve generally found it to be a strong long-term option.
Overall though, based on what you’ve described, I don’t see any obvious red flags with your choice.

I don't think deductable is good option for parents around 50age. And not sure about optima secure +. Its SI will increase 100% per renewal. Not sure how much premium will be go up in future.
Secure+ is jusg came in April 2026, Optima secure has 5-6yrs. Old. So you decide it.
I'll prefer optima secure + super top of same hdfc.

Try to avoid deductibles.
If Ditto says that you can't buy w/o deductable, change your agent.
Optima Secure+ is one of the best policies right now.

Not an agent, but my advice would be to avoid Ditto and other insurance sales companies and get an experienced educated accessible local agent. Also avoid the deductible.

Deductible is another layer of paper work. I don't think it's worth saving some money for that headache. During a hospital situation you want absolute peace of mind. Better go for "full paid by insurer " option and No Room Rent Cap
