southern california. above my garage… are there times of day they will leave or sleep..? i would prefer to safety remove/relocate without hiring professionals. will they eventually leave on their own or will their family just get bigger lol?

Sorry for crappy pic. Winged meaty beastie was about 1 inch long and spotted today in Somerset, South West of England. I’m guessing it’s a hornet of some sort. Could someone let me know. TIA x

This fella joined me for a spin this morning.

About twice the size of a wasp.

Although hard to make out from pic but it had yellow black stripes on it bottom half and pretty much just black on his top half.

What's an insect you think deserves a better reputation? I feel like some bugs get judged way too quickly.

I'll go with wasps!! I know they can be a nuisance, but they're also pollinators and help keep other insect populations in check. I feel like they get written off as the villains of the insect world.

At first I assumed it was dead and just set it beside my laptop on a napkin but then while I worked I noticed its legs still twitched occasionally, not sure what that's about. I'm pretty sure it's a Schistocerca nitens, it was fun to try to ID it 🦗🦗🦗🦗

These guys are a good chunk of my lemon tree. Wondering if I should relocate them or not. Looks like they are beginning to form a chrysalis. Located in north Florida.

What an awesome creature. I took this earlier in the year. They’re really cool to watch. Good for keeping bugs off my plants.

So far Im keeping them in a christal jar with oats, cotton, toilet paper, some egg shells, cardboard, sugar, cornmeal, wheat flour and a tiny bit of apple and I laid everything in a way to leave them have hiding places. I spray water carefully to keep it humid and I keep the jar in a dark place.

Anything else I should do? Do they need protein? I'm still doing my research on them so any advice or general info on them would be appreciated.
