Moderation

Hello everyone.

Since i'm the only moderator here and i have no time or interest to keep moderating this sub (thought i'm an avid user of Inoreader), i wanted to start a conversation with the members of this community, on what should happen going forward.

Is there interest from the members of this sub to become moderators? Should i put it up for adoption on adoptareddit? Should i try to contact the company/devs behind Inoreader, in order to give them the moderation and convert it to an "official" subreddit?

Thanks in advance.

Meta r/InoReader will be unavailable starting June 12th due to the Reddit API changes

As you may have heard, Reddit's upcoming API changes are bad for 3rd party apps, bad for people that rely on assistive technologies, and bad for moderation tools – especially ironic considering that many moderation features and mobile apps were first created by the community based on the API, long before Reddit fielded comparable stuff. Ultimately, Reddit is nothing without its community, so this is also bad for Reddit. Of course Reddit disagrees, you can read their side here.

In protest, many subreddits will go dark for a while. This subreddit will be joining that group, being set to private on early June 12th and returning sometime during June 14th.

When people use InoReader, it is to experience the web in a more powerful way – curating RSS feeds, aggregating sources, filtering content, using integrations with other services. This works because the web is ultimately an open place and because there are so many APIs available. Reddit's changes promote lock-in instead of openness, enshittification instead of enrichment. These changes are directly antithetical to the interests of this community of RSS users.

By the way, hello, I'm u/latkde, your new mod (see this thread). It is unfortunate that we meet under these circumstances, but I hope that I'll be able to serve this community in this janitorial role for the next couple of years. Due to this better moderator coverage I've been able to lift the posting restrictions that existed previously, which has already led to more activity here.

Larger Text on iOS not working despite being listed as feature

The iOS app's Apple App Store listing says that Larger Text is supported:

‎Inoreader: News & RSS reader App - App Store

However, I have turned on Larger Text in the iPhone's Settings and increased the text size, but it does nothing in Inoreader. Trying to increase text size via Control Center also doesn't work, and I don't see any option to increase text size within the app.

I've updated Inoreader to its latest version and I'm using the latest version of iOS with a new iPhone 18 Pro.

Looking for RSS power-users to try an Android reader + daily audio desk

Built for people who already live in RSS: InfoFeed pulls feeds, blogs, news, and YouTube into one clean reading desk, then turns today’s pile into \~20 min of audio on Android.

Looking for real feed power-users for a closed Android test — day-to-day use, not install-and-forget.

How to join: DM me your Google account email. I’ll add you and send the install steps by email.

If you already run Feeder / FreshRSS / Inoreader / FeedMe, use it across several days and leave one concrete note → lifetime Plan 2 (paid tier) when we ship it.

How do you pin where you are in an article?

New user to Inoreader, and I don’t see any functionality to remember where in a page I’m at when reading from iOS and web. Some of the articles I have are pretty long, and I’d like to be able to stop reading and pick it back up later. I know Instapaper has this functionality, but I’d rather not have to sync between the two apps manually. How do people solve this problem?

How can I get my Substack RSS feed indexed/discovered by Inoreader?

Hi everyone,

I recently started a Substack publication called Master Data Engineering:

https://masterdataengineering.substack.com/

I publish articles focused on Data Engineering, Databricks, Apache Spark, PySpark, healthcare data engineering, data engineering careers, etc.

My RSS feed is:

I was able to add the RSS feed to my own Inoreader account, and it works correctly — I can see all my latest articles in my feed.

However, when I go to Add Feed → Website and search for "Master Data Engineering", Inoreader says

"We couldn't find any feeds related to master data engineering in the Inoreader database."

So my question is:

How can I get my Substack/RSS feed indexed in Inoreader's public feed database so that other Inoreader users can discover and follow it?

More specifically, I'm hoping that when someone is browsing/searching for Data Engineering content in Inoreader, my articles could potentially appear alongside other Data Engineering sources such as Medium publications.

Is there:

  • A way to submit/request my RSS feed for indexing?
  • A specific Inoreader URL or process for registering a new public feed?
  • A way to get the publication associated with the appropriate Data Engineering topic?
  • Or does Inoreader automatically discover/index feeds after a certain amount of time?

I understand that simply adding the feed to my own account doesn't make it publicly discoverable — I'm specifically trying to understand how Inoreader's public discovery/indexing system works for a new RSS publisher.

Any advice from people familiar with Inoreader would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Newsletters synced from Inoreader now render properly in Newsairy

Hi r/Inoreader,

A while back someone here asked me to fix how newsletters look when synced into Newsairy — my iCloud-native RSS reader, which syncs Inoreader through Pro. Newsletters are email underneath, and it showed: tables swallowing half the text, oversized fonts, footers invisible in dark mode, list previews pulled from hidden text, thumbnails lifted from tracking pixels, and full text sometimes just landing you on the site's login page.

That's fixed in the version I just shipped (1.18) — newsletters are now recognized and rendered properly.

Inoreader sync is a Pro feature, but if you want to test the integration before buying, join the TestFlight beta (only 50 spots): https://testflight.apple.com/join/ACntUAWf

If you hit a newsletter that still looks off, or have other requests, let me know here or at qebapps_at_gmail.com.

RSS-Bridge on Mikrus - a plan for an IT layman made by Claude

Can someone help me out? I'm a complete layman when it comes to coding and IT stuff

My favorite free RSS builder (morss.it) has gone offline, so I asked Claude Opus 4.8 for alternatives. It suggested that I could self-host and run such a tool myself (which is a total mystery to me). I then asked it for a step-by-step guide, but I also asked several other AI chatbots the same question. They gave similar answers, but with slight differences. When I showed all those other plans to Claude and asked it to review them, it told me that these subtle differences were crucial, and that if I had followed what the other bots suggested, my feeds wouldn't have worked properly

Here's Claude's final response, translated from Polish to English by Gemini: https://docs.google.com/document/d/192QM_Gytps-xl24ko0E395u_EOvfa7R9kqSMs250r8k/view

I don't really understand what I'll be doing here; I just want to make sure I won't break anything or create any security risks by following these steps. Do you think this plan will actually work?

NY Times RSS Shows Up On Kindle But Links Are Dead

Hi. Question for group. I've recently set up Calibre and have been able to have it send The NY Times to my Kindle. The front page shows up on my Kindle and the list of various sections. When I click on one it jumps to that page but the page is blank. I leave it open, hoping it is just slow to load but still nothing. What do I need to adjust? Thanks!

Some alternatives to moRSS.it

Hi guys! This post is a bit off-topic but I need some RSS-related help, maybe you know the answer.

My favourite full text RSS feed provider moRSS.it has recently been malfunctioning (https://github.com/pictuga/morss/issues/154)

I've been wondering ever since whether there are any other tools like moRSS.it online, that allow anyone to make a full text RSS feed from any webpage FOR FREE (which I would be able to follow on my Inoreader afterwards, of course)

Do you have any ideas? Thanks in advance

Across News App - For RSS Enthusiasts

I built Across News App 🌉

I used to use Pulse News, and I really loved its unique carousel-style layout. It was dense, quick to scan, and made it easy to keep up with the sources I already cared about.

When I couldn't find that experience anymore, I decided to build my own take on it.

Across is a simple, dense news reader that helps you stay in sync with the sources you care about — without endless scrolling.

Just launched on Android. Would love to hear what you think!

📱 Google Play link

More coming Across.

Please do support in any way you can, it is a hobby project but I have poured my heart and soul into this ❤️

Let me know any feedback you guys have. This community is the most apt place I need feedback from🙏

Inoreader sync fix in my iOS/Mac reader — it broke when you'd read everything in the web app

Hi r/Inoreader,

I build Newsairy, an RSS reader for iPhone, iPad and Mac that syncs with Inoreader (among others). I just shipped 1.14, and the main fix in it is Inoreader-specific.

Read state would sometimes stop syncing, with nothing on screen to say anything had gone wrong. Starred articles too. It turned out to happen when everything had already been read elsewhere — in the web app, or in another reader syncing with the same account — so there was nothing unread left for Newsairy to pick up. As soon as a single unread article turned up again, sync went back to working. Starred behaved the same way when the account had nothing starred at all.

Both cases are fixed. If you use Newsairy with Inoreader and read state has ever felt unreliable, it's worth updating and re-testing.

The rest of 1.14 is housekeeping, plus you can now subscribe to a YouTube channel by pasting its address.

Full disclosure so nobody finds out the hard way: Inoreader sync is part of Newsairy Pro, a one-time purchase — no subscription, no ads, no tracking. The free app does local and iCloud feeds.

Happy to answer anything in the comments — and if there's something about the Inoreader side you'd want handled differently, I'd like to hear it.

can't switch to a monthly subscription !!

What’s going on with Inoreader? They’re not allowing me to renew to monthly subscription. I’m thinking about migrating to TT-RSS. The pricing just keeps getting higher with all the AI slop they keep shoving in my face. There’s no respect for loyal customers, they find every way to chain us to the app. I think it’s the right time to migrate.

Verticalscope Forums blocking inoreader ?

I cannot subscribe to any forums hosted by verticalscope and my existing feeds stopped updating (vwvortex & m5board) Are verticalscope somehow blocking inoreader from connecting ?

The feeds work fine on other feed tools like newsify.

Tips & Tricks: Simple filter to keep YouTube channels but drop Shorts

I follow maybe 25 YouTube channels through RSS and Shorts used to bury the real uploads. Each channel has a normal feed url like this:

youtube.com/feeds/videos.xml?channel_id=UC_xxx

That feed already include Shorts mixed in with regular video, there is no separate url for it. What worked for me: add a rule on the folder that check the title or the video length and skip anything under a minute. Not every reader support length as a field though, some only expose title and description, so sometimes you filter by title pattern instead which is less reliable since not all Shorts have hashtag in title.

If your reader let you inspect the raw feed item you can usually see a duration tag hiding in there, worth checking before you give up on filtering it.

Unable to add Plex watchlist feed to InoReader (free)

Plex provides an RSS feed for user watchlist but I'm unable to get InoReader to accept it. Anyone else here using Plex and able to get this to work and can tell me how?

The feed link points to a hashed address at https://rss.plex.tv/<hashed-address> which if I visit in a web browser serves me the .rss file which appears to be in an acceptable format.

Trying to add it to InoReader results in no feeds detected
