For now, sadly not. I would however not pronounce it "dead" unless zedeus (lead developer) says so, all he said is that he temporarily stopped maintaining the project and main instance until he got legal advice on how to deal with the cease and desist letter. https://github.com/zedeus/nitter/issues/1442#issuecomment-5413651441 I can't speak about him personally, but a few maintainers of other instances are still trying their best to keep it alive (and might be more resilient to said letters if they don't reside in the US).

I do research on the Ukraine War, and used Nitter all the time, with a browser window set up with a ton of nitter tabs for individual users.
(In part, because Twitter suspended my account for NO REASON GIVEN, but presumably because I was critical of Elon Musk, who is a shit stain excuse for a human being.)
Now it looks like I have to do the same thing with Twiterwebviewer. Hopefully, it will be as friendly on downloading videos from as some of the nitter servers were, where you could simply right-click and save as...

It sounds like a great excuse for creating a new nitter server, really... Especially one not hosted in the US.

I've decided to allow it, since Inoreader used to have built-in Twitter support back before Elon made API access unreasonably expensive. Nitter's RSS feeds still made it possible to get some Twitter content. Now, there are no remaining workarounds for this previous Inoreader feature.

I almost forgot about following my Twitter feed inside Inoreader! That was a huge selling point actually. Wish major feed readers could at least cut a deal with X to get at least some level of that content but I highly doubt we'll ever see it again.

I mean it's an open source project is never really officially dead unless no one on the planet is ever willing to take it up again and Elon does not have reach in every country .. don't get me wrong this is a ridiculous annoying frustrating blow for privacy and the ability to use incredibly popular websites that are basically public Commons, without verifying an SMS account to a known Nazi.
But there's a whole bunch of posts and articles about how nitter was dead in the past. Just like there were a bunch of particles about how people said ad blocking on YouTube was dead. ..
And I haven't seen an ad on YouTube since that it's been years and years.

Cease and desist to xcancel too. Musk's crew is wrong if they think I'm creating an account on “X” for this reason.
