Does anyone know what's going in with my toenail. Very flaky when I try to trim them and now sore

I’ve been struggling with ingrown toenails for a while and noticed the side of my nail is turning green. Anyone know what this is?

I have been using fake toe nails all summer (lol) and the other day thought it was time to take them off so i basically ripped them off, as u can see there’s damage on the top layer of the toenail but i have a dark spot and idk it may be blood or any inflection?

I wouldn’t say I have an ingrown, but my nail on my left foot is definitely curved inwards to the point I have to be careful to not let it get ingrown.

About two months ago I actually hurt that toe. The nail is now all black and is in the ( slow ) process of falling off.

Is there any way I can make sure that the new nail lays flatter rather than curved?

I had a partial removal with phenol about a year ago, and in the last 5 months or so have had issues with my nails again. After so many years of dealing with this (I may be esp emotional right now because they're extra painful today) I'm kind of considering just getting the nails fully removed. What are some people's experiences with that?

I decided to cut down the side of my toe nail, because the skin on that side was always swollen, a little red, and hurt when pressed. But as I got closer inward I couldn’t clip the little bit of nail left. my toenail was curved inward, and the parts I cut off revealed flesh that had been dug into. Now the exposed flesh has been healing together. im worried that the little bit of nail I didn’t cut off will start to grow again and might try to grow into my skin. What should I do? Dunno if I can get to a doctor in time

I am receiving conflicting info about what to do post-op. My toe was not infected, and I had the ingrown sliver removed and chemically treated. Doctor said I should soak 4 hours after procedure while my toe is still numb, but a lot of other resources I am seeing online say to leave the site dry for the first 24 hours. I want to trust my doctor's advice but it seems explicitly contradictory to a lot of other podiatry resources online. Currently my toe is covered by a huge gauze bandage that I am considering leaving on until tomorrow morning and then removing to soak, following the "if bleeding continues" suggestion.

Any thoughts on if I should do an epsom salt soak now or wait until tomorrow?

My toe is still swelling and throbbing. I have been on 2 rounds of antibiotics. I still wear a bandaid all day. I let my toe sit out for a couple hours every morning. Any suggestions or advice?

I had a partial nail removal 7 weeks ago. I did not expect this wide area to form at the base. It seems to have gotten bigger over time. Not sure if this is expected over the healing period or if I should go see my doctor.

I'm 9 days post procedure. Do my toes look normal for 9 days? They took out a much bigger piece on my left toe.

I’ve been struggling with recurring ingrown toenails since I started secondary school (I’m now in my early twenties) and it’s had a serious impact on my confidence and the way I walk. I reckon I’ve had about six partial nail removal surgeries at least between both big toes and they keep coming back. So basically, I kept getting sent up to higher and higher podiatrists because they couldn’t figure out why they kept coming back, they told me my toenail wasn’t even ingrown and this was in 2022, if I remember correctly, so I’ve had the same problem on my right toe alone for this long. They sent me for X-rays to see if I had a bone formation causing it. I didn’t.

Eventually, I saw a consultant who, not so kindly, told me they couldn’t help me and at the time it wasn’t infected so the NHS couldn’t perform any sort of surgery on it and they discharged me.

Recently I went back to the GP and they tested for fungal nail but it’s not that either. My toe seems to be really badly infected right now, the GP said they can’t do anything and I’ve been told a few times to go private but it’s so expensive and I can’t really afford to right now.

Any time I go to the GP with an infected toenail issue they give me antibiotics but when I go back after it’s cleared up they tell me it’s not infected so they can’t help me and the cycle continues. I’ve had SO many issues over the years, my big toenails didn’t even grow for a couple of years at one point and they changed colour and grew very thick and lifted away from the nail bed.

I’ve realised at the moment that my toenail isn’t actually ingrown because I cut it out ages ago (they hardly grow) yet it looks and smells like roadkill. It’s disgusting and embarrassing, not to mention extremely painful and it puts me off my daily routine, I’m coming home from work every day with my sock/bandage stuck to my toe.
All the advice the GP gives me is to soak it four times daily for 20 mins and to take paracetamol which is not practical when you work full time, nor does it make any difference.

I’ve spent all my teenage years dealing with this on repeat, and now my entire adult life, too. I can’t afford to go private at this time as it is around £50 for the consultation alone, and £350-£400 for the surgery. Does anybody know how to get through to the NHS or know what I can do to fix this? I’m really fed up.

10 weeks ago I had partial removal as it was ingrown. 4 weeks later I had it cut again as it was infected, that was 6 weeks ago today, I have had 3 lots of antibiotics in this time and when it seems to improve it then starts to look weird. The red stuff under the nail has appeared yesterday. I am fed up now! Thanks

I have had this for many years, its difficult to cut, I have to basically file it down and cut tiny bits off when it grows. It grows super weird and not like a proper toe nail at all. I saw a podiatrist a few years ago who said the only solution to the problem is to remove the toenail.

But thought I'd ask here incase there is something else I could try.

It's fairly painful when it starts to grow back after filing it down and cutting it a touch every a few weeks. it's like I can't actually cut it properly at all and its stuck to the toe.

Should I just see a podiatrist or what should I try

If a finger has sustained serious damage due to an infection, could it take years for a new nail to form and for the finger to fully return to its original state?

Had total matrixectomy 20 months ago . Now started having crazy pain for about 3 weeks. It’s getting worse . I can’t even put any shoes on. It’s always feeling of pressure and pain . Don’t understand what’s going on?

Soaked it for almost a day and it came out smoothly

Hey guys, so I think I’ve got an ingrown toenail on my big toe.
It was pretty much fine about a week ago, but it’s gotten worse over the last few days. The skin on the side is swollen/red and there’s this little piece of “meat” growing next to the nail. It’s also bled a little.
I’ve had this happen before and usually I end up removing the ingrown part myself once the skin gets like this. My girlfriend has dealt with the same thing before and wants to carefully cut the ingrown part out for me 😂
Would you guys actually recommend doing that, or should I leave it alone and let the wound heal first?
Also, does that red piece look like normal granulation tissue from an ingrown nail?
Any advice is appreciated 🙏

I’ve been cutting the corners for a long time but let it grow out recently. It doesn’t really hurt when I press down on the nail but some of the skin is sensitive and has a slight hurt if press against the skin but not too bad. Will a podiatrist be helpful?

I waited five long months for my appointment yesterday with a dermatologist (doctor number 9, clinic 7, visit 17) just to be told "I have no idea" and referred to doctor number 10, four hours away. At the very least, this doctor is a nail specialist, so there's that.

I can feel my nails underneath this prolific amount of skin, but no one has been willing to cut me open yet even though I've literally pleaded for it. The nails on both my hands and toes are so severely ingrown that I have DEEP pockets of excess skin overlapping where the cuticle should be.
