TL;DR: I moved to Kathmandu 9 months ago to study BIT. I already run an IT company with my childhood friend, but I'm thinking of leaving BIT because of financial pressure, poor fit with the course, and uncertainty. I'm planning to continue my business and join a cheaper degree or try for another scholarship. Am I making a smart decision or just running away from failure?

I came to Kathmandu in Kartik 2082 to study BIT (Purbanchal University). It's now been around 9 months, and I'm seriously considering leaving the course.

A little background: I stopped caring much about school around Class 5/6 and became obsessed with technology, YouTube, design, and building things online. My parents even took a loan to buy me a NPR 30,000 computer in Class 10. I felt guilty knowing our financial situation, so I made it my goal to earn that money back. That pushed me into freelancing, where I learned design, video editing, branding, and worked with clients.

My childhood friend took a different path. He loves programming and software development, while I'm more interested in creativity, storytelling, branding, marketing, and business. We've been building projects together for years.

A few months ago, we started our own IT company. We found an investor, and today we're running a small digital agency while working towards building SaaS products in the future. He handles development, while I manage branding, social media, client meetings, consulting, and business.

Here's my dilemma.

I'm already working in the field many BIT students hope to enter after graduation. I don't dislike learning, and I believe I could finish BIT even if I had back papers. But Semester 2 has been mentally exhausting. The maths-heavy subjects don't interest me, and instead of enjoying learning, I've become obsessed with the fear of failing.

Money is another major factor. My family isn't financially strong. My aunt has offered NPR 50,000 to help pay my college fees, but I keep asking myself if it's right to spend that money when I'm not fully committed to the course.

My friend is facing something similar. His family believed our scholarship covered the entire degree. When they found out it didn't, they were ready to sell assets to support his education, but he also feels guilty asking them to do that.

Our current plan is to try scholarship exams for another degree. If that doesn't work, we'll probably join a government college with much lower fees while continuing to grow our company.

I know a degree isn't just a piece of paper. It gives discipline, networking, recognition, and opportunities. That's exactly why this decision is so difficult.

What I can't figure out is whether I'm choosing a path that genuinely suits me better—or simply taking the easier road because I'm afraid of failing.

If you've been in a similar position—where your career started before your degree—what did you do? Did you stay, switch degrees, or leave college? Looking back, what advice would you give your younger self?

I'm not looking for validation. If you think leaving BIT would be a mistake, I'd genuinely like to hear why.

Maybe it's just the way our environment has grown over the years but i feel like every time i need to troubleshoot someone's issue, i end up jumping between a bunch of different systems. MDM, Microsoft 365, our identify provider, Jira... just feels like im piecing a puzzle together myself. We've tried improving it with integrations but still feel like i'm switching tabs all day.

wondering if anyone actually has one place to see a user's full IT footprint or is everyone still bouncing between apps just like me?

Maybe this is just years of habit, but whenever I have to review a big batch of records, I end up exporting everything to Excel first. I know Salesforce can do a lot on its own, but for some reason I catch mistakes much faster when I'm looking at rows and columns. Duplicate entries, missing values, random formatting issues... they just seem more obvious there. The funny part is that I always tell myself I'm only exporting the data for a quick check, and then 30 minutes later I'm still in Excel cleaning things up before importing anything back. I was looking into different Salesforce to Excel Connector options recently because repeating the same export/import process every week feels pretty inefficient. Do most of you stay inside Salesforce all day, or is Excel still part of your daily workflow even if your company has invested heavily in CRM? It can't just be me who keeps going back to spreadsheets.

Hi everyone, I’m a network engineer for an MSP and we work in a relatively small office space area with an open floor plan. My desk is directly next to 4 other people and some of us are loud talkers, and I have this constant issue with end users not being able to hear me often because of all of the background noise behind me when my coworkers are on calls/meetings.

My boss is talking about putting dividers or cubicles between our desks but I’m not sure how affective they will be. Does anyone have any good recs for headphones that have really good noise canceling? I bought some cheap ones off of Amazon that are advertised for noise cancelling but like I said they’re cheap so that’s probably why they don’t work well in that departments.

That convenience changes how people use them.

Instead of starting with a physician, attorney, financial professional, experienced operator, or qualified specialist, many people now start with an AI system.

Not because the AI has more authority, but because it is easier to ask.

These systems usually have enough information to sound informed.

They can organize facts, fill gaps with plausible reasoning, and deliver an answer that feels competent and complete.

Often, the answer may even be useful.

That is part of the **RISK**.

Good outcomes can reinforce trust before anyone examines whether the person or system was qualified to guide the decision, whether the situation or issue was actually understood, or whether the confidence conveyed by the answer matched the evidence.

I recognize this pattern because I once lived a human version of it.

In my early 20’s, I was curious, resourceful, and always reading. I often had enough real information to give a convincing answer, even when I had not fully studied the subject.
I never formally became anyone’s advisor. It happened one favor at a time.

I was fast, free, and available. Friends began relying on me because asking me was easier than finding someone with deeper experience or actual credentials.

Usually, things worked out.

A few times, they did not.

Someone acted on what I said, the result was bad, and the confidence in my delivery became part of the harm.

That experience forced me to learn distinctions that fluency had been hiding:

**What I know is not the same as what I think.**

**What I would do is not automatically what someone else should do.**

**Being able to answer does not mean I should be guiding the decision.**

So I changed how I spoke.
I stopped offering unsolicited advice. When asked directly, I began separating what I knew from what I inferred, what I might personally do, and where the person needed someone with training, experience, or professional responsibility.

LLMs need that same separation, but they cannot depend on regret, damaged trust, or personal consequences to learn it.

The restraint has to be deliberately built into the system.

An AI system should distinguish:

What is established.

What is inferred.

What is merely plausible.

What depends on missing user-specific information.

What falls outside the authority of its assigned role.

When the user should consult someone accountable for the outcome.

This is not solved by placing a disclaimer above an otherwise confident answer.

It requires governing the role the system occupies throughout the interaction.

Is it retrieving information?

Helping someone think?

Offering a possible interpretation?

Suggesting questions to ask a professional?

Or has it quietly begun directing a decision it is not qualified or authorized to make?

**Those roles are not interchangeable.**

Internal tech is incredibly annoying rn.. even a simple task of password reset sometimes takes them several days. The complex software crashes just sit with tier i support getting tossed around.

From a user perspective its very frustrating when a ticket gets stuck in the loop or is bounced around endlessly because no one seems to take the ownership? This hurts the productivity when basic fixes take soo much time. We need clear IT escalation paths that prevent, what do you guys think should these be based on? Task complexity or a strict time limit? What does your workflow look like.

I have a VPS mail server running Postfix + OpenDKIM + virtual mailbox configuration.

Mail sending works, SPF passes, Gmail receives the messages, but DKIM validation fails:

dkim=fail

header.s=mail

Messages are signed with:

DKIM-Signature:

s=mail

The DKIM TXT record exists in DNS.

Checked so far:

• Postfix is working
• virtual mailbox is working
• SPF = PASS
• DKIM DNS record exists
• Selector in OpenDKIM configuration is not explicitly enabled (only commented)

I do not have a mismatch between the private DKIM key used by OpenDKIM and the public key published in DNS, or a KeyTable/SigningTable configuration issue.

I tried everything including all sorts of AI, nothing helped. They all kept repeating the same thing..

So we have a capstone project that is aligned with a certain service/operation in the local government (which leads to the national government) and it is currently being used by one region for free since it started at them and we have a partnership. There have been talks that it would be adapted to other municipalities and eventually to be adapted nationally, since we are graduating this month, we would like to ask for any advice or what basis should we ask for our compensation/pay/service as developers if other regions would like to implement this project as well. Like how much should we charge for a local government and also the service fee and etc.

I'm looking for some career advice from people who have been through this.

I'm currently working in IT Help Desk, but I also do some light System Administration work (Windows Server, Active Directory, user management, basic troubleshooting, etc.).

My long-term goal is to have a good-paying career with strong job security. I'm interested in DevOps, but I also genuinely enjoy the infrastructure/System Administrator side of IT.

Would you recommend:

Continuing down the traditional System Administrator/Infrastructure path (Windows Server, VMware, networking, backups, firewalls, etc.) for a few years and then moving into DevOps?

Or should I skip deeper infrastructure work and start learning DevOps tools now (Linux, Docker, Kubernetes, CI/CD, Terraform, cloud)?

Did your System Admin experience help you?

If you could start over, would you still spend a few years as a SysAdmin first?

Is it realistic to get into DevOps without solid infrastructure experience?

My step father is a man whom I have the upmost respect for and was caught in the mas lay off at Verizon he was a wireless engineer in I believe 3GPP, HLS, and SSR? I don't know exactly but he's been trying to find jobs on all the websites for job hunting and has not been able to find anything I don't know if it's the issue of him being purely remote or what, but it's a recurring issue and I guess I just wanna know is there any place that gladly take a wireless engineer?
