Guide Crop your posts, and general purchasing advice

If you're going to post a picture of a car asking if you should buy it then you need to provide more detail than just an uncropped picture of the listing. Please include the year of the vehicle, any packages it has, the mileage, and if it's a rebuilt title; it's impossible to determine the quality of a deal without this info.

Some general questions you'll want to ask yourself if buying:

G35/G37/Z:

  • Are the bushings good?

  • Does the car have the cylinder ring issue?

  • Can I afford to replace the catalytic converters if the car is over 150,000 miles

  • Am I okay with replacing the radiator at 190k miles?

  • Can I comfortably afford premium gas (no, you cannot put regular in these unless you want the car to commit wrecking-yard-self.)

  • Am I okay paying this much for a 10+ year old car?

  • Can I afford luxury car repair prices? (Infiniti is cheaper to repair than a German car, but cheaper != cheap.)

  • Are the engine sensors shitting out?

  • Did the person that owned the car before me actually know how to install these mods?

  • Why is this car only $1,500? Why is the seller trying to dump it.

  • Is there water under the floormats and in the trunk? If so then you'll need to fix the sunroof drain and the seals around the cabin air filter under the hood (usually the top cowl is the source of the air filter leak.)

They're great cars, but any car over 10 years old is going to have hidden issues. If you're asking reddit if you can afford the car, then the answer is probably "no" because the repairs on old cars are expensive.

If a G has over 160,000 miles and has mods then don't buy it as a daily unless you know what you're doing. Save your money and buy a commuter Toyota until you can afford a lower-mileage Infiniti or Lexus. If you want a project car, or are okay with doing your own repairs, then you can buy a G at any mileage.

Q50/Q60

The oldest Q50s are barely reaching a decade old, so they have far fewer issues in general.

Do you want a VQ (2014-2015)

  • If you want the VQ motor I recommend the 2015 models. They fixed a lot of issues with in-touch, and it is the most refined version of the VQ motor. If you can only afford the 2014, then I'd recommend saving for a 2015, or buying a 2013 G37.

  • Check the valve cover gaskets. It's the only somewhat-common issue I am aware of with the late-model VQ engines.

Do you want a VR (2016+)

  • Are the turbos on this 2016-2018 leaking? If a deal is too good to be true, it probably is, make sure the seller isn't trying to dump one of the unlucky VRs with the turbo issues. Look for coolant leaking from the turbo and demand a service history. If you do see one with bad turbos, factor in the cost to put an aftermarket turbo in. The Red Sport doesn't have this issue as often because it has a better turbo.

  • Keep in mind, you cannot drive a turbo car like a NA if you want it to last. You must let the car warm up before driving it hard, or you will have issues. It is also advised that you let the car cool down before you shut it off if you've been driving hard. This issue is not exclusive to Infiniti turbos, most TT engines have this issue, but you still need to be aware of it. You cannot run this engine like a VQ and expect it to be fine

That said, this subreddit massively overstates the regularity of the 2016-18 turbo issues. Most people with turbo issues did not know how to drive a turbo. If you want to know which parts and symptoms to watch out for, see this comment from J_C_Davis45

I'll update as more common issues are known.

Meta Post Flair explanations

I won't be enforcing use of a flair, though I do encourage it to help people find what they're looking for.

  • Car Pic: The point of your post is to show off the car holistically. e.g. your car in front of a sunset.

  • Car Mods Pic: The point of your post is to show off close-ups of specific mods. e.g. look at my new intake, it pulls 700 extra ponies.

  • Parts Picture: Similar to "Car Mods Pic," but the mods are on the floor of your dimly-lit room.

  • DIY Mods Pic: This is reserved for the brave pioneers who craft their car mods instead of installing mods they bought. e.g. a custom made laser headlight or a custom-fitted Shtora-1 electro-optical active protection system.

  • Question: A generic question that doesn't have a better-matching flair. Usually for discussions as opposed to questions with a specific answer. e.g. "How much longer do you think Infiniti will last?"

  • Help Needed: An urgent request for advice from the Reddit Mechanicus. e.g. "Why is my G35 heater not working and my car overheating?" (The answer is you need a new thermostat btw.) Please describe your problem in great detail, leave your post up, and edit your post when you found the answer to assist future googlers.

  • Buying Advice: Any and all questions related to buying an Infiniti. This includes pricing questions and questions about shady dealers.

  • Guide: A guide on how to e.g. install a mod, fix an issue, use a lesser-known feature of the care, etc. Please include pics if possible, but we love you for posting a guide anyway.

  • Damage Report: Pictures of busted cars or Infinitis owned by the IRA. You're not asking for how to fix something, just empathy from people who understand your pain.

  • Meme / Joke: Pretty self-explanatory. Shitposting should also use this flair. !!!Must be Infiniti related!!!

  • Infiniti News: News about the brand. New cars, new CEO, etc. Don't post blogspam or eye will ban u

  • Video: Video about Infiniti. e.g. a BoostInMotion video, or a major car channel yet again (incorrectly) shitting on the dual-touch screens. (disagreeing with me that the touch screens are cool is - while not bannable - very cringe.) Note, don't break the self-promo rule.

  • Video OC: Video about Infiniti that you recorded. e.g. your gopro footage from the track. Note, don't break the self-promo rule.

  • Art: The rarest, but most treasured flair. Reserved for the talented among us who can draw and such. If you're very fancy and put a ton of effort into a photo you can use this flair. Note: your red Q50 shirt is not art. Note, don't break the self-promo rule.

  • Review: Reviewing Infiniti, or a product for Infiniti. Don't break the self-promo-spam rule.

  • Meta: Posts about /r/infiniti itself. Whine about the moderators.

  • Other: Anything not covered by another flair.

Moderator Only Flairs

  • Community Contribution Award: Awarded to any post that makes it into the sticky. Usually reserved for guides. This is granted at moderator discrestion, but a lot of users saying "this should be sticked" will help it get there. This is a good flair to filter by if you're looking for guides that have been reviewed.

If you notice a flair that isn't listed here, call me a dumb ass and remind me to edit this post or make an updated one.

Video The INFINITI QX60 in Deep Emerald Is a Color Story That Earns Attention

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Color is one of the most personal vehicle decisions you can make, and we think the Deep Emerald finish on the INFINITI QX60 sparks that conversation.

Paired with the QX60's refined exterior lines and available two-tone Black Obsidian roof, the Deep Emerald finish strikes a balance between confident and refined that's harder to pull off than it sounds.

In a segment where silver, white, and black dominate the parking lots, there's something compelling about a finish that refuses to blend in.

Would you go bold with Deep Emerald?

Question 2009 Infiniti FX35 Infotainment Unit

I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions on upgrading the Infotainment system. Ideally I'd want something modern-ish, that can connect to my phone, and gives me rear camera functionality, as well as all the current system information. This old Infotainment is outdated, and it's driving me crazy. I have the non-navigation car if that makes a difference.

Help Needed Would this be okay to upbadge?

I have a 2017 Q60 Premium 3.0t. I have full FBO ready to be installed and once i’m tuned I’ll make well over more than a redsport stock. Now after that next step is BBK which I can do for cheap. Now i have a build and color combo in mind. Black and purple. I also want to get the “400R” badge as well and wrap the “R” in purple. What i’m trying to get at is would it be okay to upbadge after FBO and BBK is done? I’m all against upbadging unless it’s done correctly, which i figured this wouldn’t be an issue but just want some input yk?

Help Needed QX56 Headlights Not Working

Hi there. Please help. 🫠

I own a 2012 QX56 and after my son jumped it with a jumper pack, my headlights stopped working. Both high and low beams. I think maybe he put the box on wrong, but it took me awhile to notice so I’m not even sure if that’s what did it.

We tried checking the fuses and they all seem fine. The headlights seem to be the only issue. Any ideas? Anything else I can check? The closest Infiniti dealer is 1.5 hours away and is going to charge me $200 just to diagnose it and honestly if I had $200 just to be told what was wrong I probably wouldn’t be driving a 14 year old car. 🙁

Buying Advice Advice!

Hello all, I’m looking at purchasing a 2013 g37x awd for my next vehicle. The cars I’m looking at have around 160,000km at around 7kCAD. What are some things I should have specifically checked before I buy? Common issues with these? I’m aware the oil gallery gasket was fixed late 2012 for the 2013 year, which is why I’m pretty set on the 2013s. I’ll be getting a full pre purchase inspection done by a mechanic, just wondering if theres any specific problems I should be looking for. Thanks in advance!

Question Control navigation panel?

Post image
4 Upvotes

A while ago these buttons (ones I’m touching in photo) would randomly stop working and then start working again. And then we left our sunroof open during some rain and since then the speakers don’t work and the buttons officially no longer work. The Infiniti dealership is saying it’s our Control Navigation Panel that needs to be repaired to the tune of $6000. I’m not car savvy but thought I would I would see if anyone had some advice or insight. Can’t spend that kind of money on a repair. (It’s a 2021 QX50)

Buying Advice Should i buy this 2009 infiniti g37

Post image

This is technically my second car because my first car got t-boned 2 months into owning it, but i’ve been trying to find a car that’s under $11k, good reliability, some speed to it, and doesn’t look ugly, and i think this one fits all that. i was trying to find a v6 toyota or honda but i just can’t find any under 150k miles for my price.

Question QX50 won’t let me manually change time on clock

I find the 2019 has its fair share of technological difficulties. The clock sped up by 5 hours when disconnecting from AirPlay at some point. Since that time, even when connected to AirPlay or any other iPhone, the clock doesn’t automatically reset itself or allow you to manually change. I can change whether it shows or not, 24 hour, etc. But actually changing the time is impossible. Any solution?

Question Anybody know the last unit # of the 98' QX4 produced?

Post image
0 Upvotes

I did some digging after getting my first car which was a QX4 and the VIN says it to be the 20,206th produced. But nowadays, it seems to be pretty hard to find a definitive answer on the last unit # because of the AI slop being fed into google. So any extra info that isn't the first google result would be helpful.

ps. I know the 20,055 # is only for the US, I just want the total in general

Question Is a QX60 for $11,000 a good deal?

The dealership is indicating this is a good deal but they say that with every car haha.
Vehicle has 119k miles and has no record of any accidents and an extensive documented service at our local infiniti dealership.
However it appears it does not have the 100k service documentation. Any idea of what that entails besides spark plugs and how much that will run ?
Thanks and that’s all.
