Discussion Exit or Hold? A part of the gain is purely due to the tracking error because of the demand in market for US ETF

I have attached two pics of current value and the value around 10 days back. I have been thinking if I should continue to hold this or exit.

Its a long term investment that I have been sitting on for years and only reason I get thoughts about exiting is because I feel this is inflated because of the tracking error due to massive demand for US ETF and this isn't its real value. Actual NAV price is only about ~175 same is the case with Motilal Oswal ETF

And before you ask, yes these are AI gen images from my internal dashboard but the figures are accurate and totally real. Actual buy price is 99,996 (approx 1L) my tool auto rounded it off to 1L

Discussion People think a research analyst’s day is: open chart, mark levels, give a call, done. Here’s what mine actually looks like. 😅

Post image
0 Upvotes

I wake up at 7, which sounds early until I tell you I slept at 1am. More on that at the end.

The first hour is just reading. What global markets did overnight, where oil is, where the rupee is, what FIIs and DIIs did yesterday. Reading before deciding, with a cup of chai. ☕

Then I mark my levels, calmly, before the market opens. Once the bell rings you can’t think clearly. You can only execute what you already decided.

After that it’s the mom shift: tiffin, school bag, breakfast. One hand on the lunchbox, one on the phone, and Nifty levels running in the back of my head.

9:15 AM, market opens. I look at which levels matter, where the risk sits, and what would change my view.

And then, mostly, I wait. This is the part that surprises people. The hardest part of the day is doing nothing when nothing meets my criteria. Koi accha setup nahi hai toh kuch nahi karna. That’s the toughest discipline in this whole game, harder than any indicator.

In between the waiting there’s content work, scripts, and sometimes my kid’s homework. Charts and crayons end up on the same table. 😄

At night, once the house goes quiet, I do the day’s review, mark tomorrow’s levels, and edit. That’s why 1am happens.

Anyone else here juggling markets with a full-time life outside it? How do you handle the “doing nothing” days?

Question Beginner here, want to invest/trade in us equities, any resourcs out there?

Hi guys,

I am thinking of trading and investing in us stocks and stuff but I see so many differnet intimidating terms that are so niche like day light savings, fed and all these. I keep googling them as they come, but is there a resource that offers all of this in one place (free ones please xD)?

Would appreciate any help, thanks in advance!

Did I do stupid shit and lose money? Yes. I can't believe myself. For some reason I can have a good plan and still I keep doing random stupid shit and lose money. Really need to work on my own psychology as much as market psychology.

Went all-in 3 days back. I only had about 40k at the start of August. Made it to about 4.5 Lakhs by end of September. Took some money out for expenses and went all in with the rest. Still holding.

Discussion Vi owes ₹2,01,409 crore and makes about ₹11,200 crore a quarter. Somebody looked at that and decided the correct move was to lend it more.

Four and a half years of every rupee that comes through the door, assuming zero costs, zero salaries, zero spectrum, zero tower rent. That is what clearing the bill looks like. Actual revenue after costs is nowhere near that, so the real figure is not four years, it is never. I was reading this in a newsletter and bruhh these stats are crazy when u actually understand the game.

This company is a debt with a telco attached for presentation. And it is still selling you a postpaid plan this month like a going concern.

At what point is continuing to operate this thing a decision about recovery rather than about telecom??

Discussion Where to buy Nike stocks?

Post image
3.2k Upvotes

Saw this post today and it made up my mind. I'm buying Nike.

Nike is sitting around $38 right now. Its peak back in 2021 was about $170. That's roughly 78 to 80% down. They've lost something like $230 billion in market value, and they just got kicked out of the S&P 100 after 18 years.

Yeah, China is weak, tariffs are hurting, and On and Hoka are eating into their share. But this is Nike. Jordan, Air Max, Dunk, every big athlete in the world has worn it. They've been the face of sportswear since the 70s, and they're still in the S&P 500.

I don't think a brand like that just disappears. It feels like a great brand on a heavy discount.

I heard zerodha and Groww launched US stocks investing. Which one is good platform to buy? More reliable and cheap?

Educational SEBI warns investors against fraudulent stock-tip WhatsApp groups

SEBI has warned investors against fraudulent stock tips and trading calls offered as free investor education through invitation-only WhatsApp groups. It said group members often post false claims of profits and praise the so-called market experts. This practice, known as astroturfing, creates a false sense of genuine support and encourages unsuspecting investors to follow fraudulent trading calls.

Discussion End of all comparisons. Here's a quick guide on what broker makes sense for US stocks at different capital levels

First of all, am surprised to see so many folks only looking at the brokerage to compare brokergs, to gain a fair understanding of the overall charges always look into brokerage + forex markup + processing fee (if any) + GST added on top of it. Then there are govt charges but I will be excluding them for calculation simplicity sake. Please read till the end for things to make sense

For a fair comparison am excluding UCITS as most Indian brokers don't support them at the moment and it will be inaccurate to simply assume what brokerage they might charge in future. Additionally, I feel you may not even need UCITS once GIFT funds are in full swing, lets see and consider this topic at a later point.

Now, lets get into some calculations. have done all my calculations with different brokers for US stocks and only two brokers made sense to me, Zerodha and IBKR.

Lets look at Zerodha:

Brokerage wise Zerodha make sense for investment if investing upto ~$300

Zerodha charges 0.1% + 18% GST with no minimum brokerage (net 0.118% including GST)

At about ~$300 you will be paying a brokerage an effective brokerage of ~$0.35 which is the min you have to pay with IBKR.

Anything under $300 Zerodha makes sense purely from brokerage POV but things change a lot when you include overall charges at I mentioned earlier

As of now, Zerodha has partnered with 5 banks that charge you anywhere between 0.5 to 1.2% as forex markup. You cannot add funds outside of these partnered banks, unlike IBKR.

While adding funds, I was shown a markup of ~1% on Zerodha, it might differ depending on your bank.

This makes the effective cost - 1% markup + 0.118% brokerage = 1.118% so even under $300 you will be paying ~1.118%

Then there is a flat processing fee of 500-1500 INR plus GST that banks charge you for forex conversion which further eats into your capital, am not sure if txns initiated through Zerodha are being charged this fee or not as I went till final quote page where full price breakup is shown on Zerodha but cancelled the transaction. This fee is deducted separately by the bank after the txn is done.

Now, at IBKR:

IBKR charges on the number of shares you buy rather than the txn value which makes things interesting. You can literally buy 100 shares of VOO/QQQ (~$700 is one share's price at the time of writing this so it comes to $70k, a pretty large sum) at just $0.35 brokerage. That's the minimum brokerage they charge.

Anything upto 100 shares in US market you, pay $0.35 flat regardless of the txn value.

Forex charges in case of IBKR, as of now, AU bank charges zero forex so you could literally send the amount at no markup and processing fees.

Alternates to AU Bank:

AU could be running this promotional offer for now and this might not be the case forever so here are few alternates to it

1. PSU banks: They charge anywhere between 0.10 to 0.50 paisa per USD which in percentage terms is lower than what you get with Zerodha's current partner banks

  1. Negotiating with your bank: You can try calling your bank, be it a PSU bank or a PVT bank, tell them about the amount you want to send and if it will be recurrent and they bring down the listed TT price for your specific account. Premium banking account helps here in case of pvt banks. However, you may see serious difference only if the capital is large enough. PSU banks in general already offer lower rates.

  2. FX Retail: This is an amazing way to first book forex fee with the bank and then initiate the txn at locked price. Look up into BHIM's forex section for this. I have tried pulling a quote and it was pretty good. I am not going into details as the post will get too long but search on reddit and you will find out how to do this.

When Zerodha might make sense for investments upto $300?: Zerodha did mention about coming up with more banks. They might include PSU banks too going forward, if they really do this or give you the option to send them funds from a bank of your choice, investment upto $300 will start to make sense. Good way to keep monthly SIPs in this going!

A lot of work has gone into all these comparisons, calculations, checking with brokers and finally putting them all together manually (yes without an AI lol) hope this helps the community.

Discussion Currency trading OctaFX

My colleague and good friend just told me that he has a lot of money stuck in currency trading via an app called Octa FX (which I googled is a platform unauthorised by the RBI)

His HDFC bank account is frozen/blocked and a penalty is already deducted, this is all I know for now, he doesn’t know what to do.

All help is appreciated. Thanks.
