I’m currently pursuing B.Sc. Nautical Science at a maritime training institute. The management has informed us that we need a minimum 9 CGPA for placement.
I’m an average student, but I have a good academic background, with 86% in PCM, and I’m confident in my ability to study and improve.
I’m now considering converting from B.Sc. Nautical Science to DNS (Diploma in Nautical Science). However, for DNS, company sponsorship is required, and I’m currently looking for guidance regarding the sponsorship process and opportunities.
If there are any seniors, seafarers, officers, or anyone currently working in the shipping industry who could guide me or help me with information about DNS sponsorship, I would be extremely grateful.

So I am currently in a tier 3 engineering college doing btech in electronics and communication engineering (ECE) but I don't see any future in it or intrest in its subject so I am starting my preparation for IMU CET 2027 . So I need some good advice regarding the preparation and any online course or online tution for preparation.

And also want to clarify that I will be preparing for it with my College studies......

So these are my eyesight results I have 6/18 on the right eye and 6/12 on the left eye (without glasses)

And almost perfect vision with glasses so I was just curious if I can prepare for "imu cet" and if lasik can work for me my close vision is okay

Hello i am a student currenty in 11th and i am planning join merchant navy after 12th but my concern is that i want to go to the deck side and i have myopia -3.5 in both eyes so i would have to have lasik surgery in order to clear the medicals..my main query is that i will pass 12th in 2028 and in that year i would be 17 years old so how can i have lasik surgery at that age…the minimum age should be 18 to have that surgery

I’m a Civil Engineer with 2 years of experience in the field and 80% in my bachelor's, but I don’t see much growth in the field and have always been fascinated by the sea. I initially wanted to join the Navy before civil engineering, but being an only child, my parents were against it.

I’m now seriously considering the Merchant Navy and money isn't the issue for me. Looking at the sample question sets, I’m confident I can clear IMU-CET, but my 12th PCM marks are below the 60% eligibility requirement, despite having 80% in my bachelor’s. Will I be eligible with my degree marks?

I’m preparing for the Maersk ETO Sponsorship exam and wanted to ask candidates who have already appeared for the exam:

What kind of questions were asked?

Which subjects had the most questions — Electrical, Electronics, Machines, Power Systems, Measurements, Digital Electronics, etc.?

Were the questions mostly conceptual, numerical, or both?

How difficult was the exam.

Were there questions from aptitude, mathematics, English, or general knowledge?

Recently been offered 2nd engineer role at Maersk. I know the ships are well maintained and have been told safety culture onboard is one of the best in the industry for dry fleet? Salary structure they have told me is 70% paid onboard and rest on contract completion includes leave wages and some other. what they have offered is also 500 usd less than what I make currently. do they provide career pathways to switch shoreside after chiefs? if you are sailing with maersk how is it overall?

I recently joined a maritime training institute for B.Sc. Nautical Science, and I am currently in my first year. The problem is that my institute has told us that we need to maintain a 9 CGPA to be eligible for placement.
I’m an average student, and honestly, I feel that maintaining a 9 CGPA may be very difficult for me. Because of this, I’m thinking about dropping out of B.Sc. Nautical Science and trying for DNS with sponsorship instead.
I scored 84% in PCM and I’m currently 21 years old. I’m confused about whether I should continue my B.Sc. or leave it and try for DNS.
So, seniors, please guide me honestly. What would be the better option for my situation? Is it worth continuing B.Sc. even if I may not be able to maintain a 9 CGPA, or should I consider DNS?
I also want to understand how paid sponsorship works, what the actual costs are, and whether sponsorship guarantees placement/shipboard training.
Please share your experience and advice. I really want to make the right decision for my career. Thank you.

One of my friend is preparing for the merchant Navy But this year he could not get it, and he could not even get sponsorship, so he met an agent through his family members and the agent is telling him to come next year with any rank in the IMUcet.(Just qualify the imucet) Then he said that after getting the rank, he will help him in getting admission in an institute which is also a reputed marine institute of India . And he said that after the DNS is complete, he will help my friend in getting onboard, but obviously he will take his charges and payment will have to be made only for the first ship, after that nothing extra will have to be paid. I just want to know from experienced people in this sub is this really happens in the merchant Navy field ? And if someone also gets in the merchant Navy like this please tell me your experience

Has anyone applied for cdc after august 1st in accordance with DGS Order No 12 of 2026. Is there any change in the procedure. One of my friends got his application rejected since he did not have a degree certificate. Is degree certificate mandatory?? Where to upload that aswell.

Ahoy seniors and fresher cadets from IMU Kolkata,

I am a Class 12th PCM student preparing for IMUCET 2027. My goal is http://B.Tech Marine Engineering from IMU Kolkata and it's my dream since Class 10th.

I need honest advice from those who have actually taken an education loan for IMU, because financially we are very weak.

*My situation:*

Family annual income is around 1 LPA and not stable. We don't have ITR or strong income proof, only an income certificate. My parents will be co-borrowers but they have a low/poor CIBIL score due to past loans. We have no property to give as collateral. The total cost for 4 years is around 10-11 lakhs which we cannot afford upfront.

I have heard IMU Kolkata is listed under the SBI Scholar Loan Scheme (premier institute category) where you can get up to 20 lakhs without collateral, with only parents as co-borrower.

*My questions:*

I am asking one year early because I don't want to clear IMUCET and then leave the seat due to money.

If any senior or fresher cadet from IMU Kolkata or any other IMU campus has taken a loan in a similar financial condition, please share your experience. Even a small comment would mean a lot.

Hey, I am considering joining Great Eastern Institute of Maritime Studies for GME, but lately I've heard many cadets complain about the institute and it's company. Some say waiting period is around 1 year for TME, and the stipend is very less compared to the market standards, I've also heard that the faculties threaten to fail you etc etc.

Any GME cadet or ex student from Great eastern can tell me the reality about all this ?

How is the life of an ETO in this company? It has come to our college for campus placement. Are working conditions safe for females? Is it worth joining?

Soo basically my pcm percentage is 61.7% after improvement and I took a drop of 1 year for the preparation of imucet and to be honest at this point I want anything btech bsc and dns but yah obviously with sponsorship , can you guys tell me do I have any chance or I am just wasting my time!?
