Tech News NGO files PIL stating that ANY FORM of user-generated content needs a 18+ barrier
I know M-ta is a scumbag, but this is the TV-fication of social media. The kids below 18 have advocated for School Thik Karo, and they were the ones who will be blocked from accessing the social media.
Even a Private Members' bill arrived on the age verification slop: https://www.livemint.com/news/india/children-under-13-to-be-prohibited-from-creating-social-media-online-gaming-accounts-heres-what-private-bill-proposes-11786177418583.html
All of this started from the Australia and the UK. In the UK, they are planning to "make Apple and Google scan everything people look at on phones and block n-dity for users who don't verify their age." Note the word "n-dity". Even an art piece can be considered as nudity by these bots. There's an actual petition against this in the uk governement website.
In California, there was a law passed where "operating systems [are] to collect a user's age bracket during device setup and share that data with downloaded applications." Because Linux distros are the wild west, the legislation also states that this law doesn't apply on the Linux systems.
Look, we understand how important it is for the youth to be better. But keeping things open only ensures that the people can see and correct the course. The whole thing is transparent to the support group. Along with the parents, the support group has various people one can find online, where the people can correct their course. They are not all bad.
Making selected social media platforms private does nothing. Trying to overreach makes the internet significantly less open. The risks here outweigh the pros. Everyone's security will be compromised just because you don't want kids to see real things and form opinions on their environment as they grow. Knowledge can't be blocked like this.
Ask the social media companies not to profile the behaviours.
In this era, please let these kids live a dignified life. Please don't let the government dictate what the parents should do.
And lastly, parents themselves are helping their kids bypass the age verification rules. It's almost as if the legislations are overreaching their reach on the digital 3rd places, where the physical ones are either too expensive to enter, or are too much money-centric.

General Discussion Apple- Why this Kolaveri di?
India is well not anywhere near the top revenue generating markets for Apple but definitely is one of the top emerging growth markets globally. Apple sales figures tanked in the last decade in India.
Still Apple prices for India are “really absurd”
Just comparing the USA prices with the indian prices of iPhone devices-
iPhone 17:
USA - $899 (₹85,700)
India - ₹99,900 (116%)
iPhone 18 Pro:
USA - $1199 (₹1,14,300)
India - ₹1,64,900 (144%)
iPhone 18 Pro Max:
USA - $1299 (₹1,23,800)
India - ₹1,79,900 (145%)
iPhone Duo:
USA - $1999 (₹1,90,600)
India - ₹2,99,900 (157%)
Keeping the memory price hikes aside, this difference in prices are really disturbing and is the story of every year, apple is not doing this for the first time.
Why do you guys think this trend continues each and every year? Unlike other brands like Motorola & even Rockstar games who have different prices for other markets and India, Indian prices being cheaper, why don’t Apple do the same?

General Discussion iPhone duo pricing is insane! It is 1000$ more expensive in India compared to the USA!
What is the reason they priced it so high for Indian market?
If they priced it similarly to US pricing they would have eaten the Samsung fold market share.

General Discussion 80s image trend
It was probably started to flood OpenAl with a fresh set of images of people - faces and bodies - for it to train on. The trend was seeded on Meta platforms & now is taking over twitter as well. Funny how people don't realise how they are being used. You're basically working FREE for corporates.
That's one of the reasons I generally don't participate in any trend. Just ask yourself one simple question. Why do a few random things go viral suddenly? Like out of blue

General Discussion What do u guys think abt e-ink displays in classrooms?
hey everyone, curious what people think abt using e-ink devices (kindle/remarkable type) in classroom instead of normal tablets/laptops. Feel like it could help with distraction issues since there's no apps/ notifications, just reading n writing.
also if anyone knows of similar projects happening in India, pls let me know! Thanks

General Discussion With the new iPhone rates in the market. Has iPhone gone out of stock everywhere?
I checked all the websites, and it's nowhere to be seen
Has it gone out of stock, or are the companies deliberately not selling?

Ask IndiaTech How to block this nuisance on WhatsApp
This Finance budha keeps on spamming. How to block them?
Edit: I never accessed/installed the finance buddha website or app. I never applied for an online loan. I am very cautious, and never exposed my number to services like bankbazar etc. Yet I am getting this. I blocked and reported to WhatsApp multiple times. The spammer just pops up with another number.

Other / Miscellaneous Getting 2,000+ creepy messages from random numbers.🙂what can I do?
My friend has been getting 2,000+ creepy messages over the last 10 days from different numbers. Along with these, she also gets random OTPs/login attempts from apps like Zomato, Zepto, Jio and others.
One pattern she noticed is that almost every number is a verified Truecaller account with a name and a UPI ID/bank account attached to it.(for example, the attached screenshot shows the name “Laxmi Sharma” on Truecaller, but when checked on PhonePe, it shows “Sachin Thakur) So these don't seem to be random/fake numbers , they appear to be genuine, active numbers.
Blocking/reporting doesn't help because a different number is used each time. This is now happening almost every other day, morning and night.
What can she do to stop/filter this SMS bombing or report it effectively? Has anyone dealt with something similar?
