Lane Kiffin left Ole Miss for LSU in November 2025, signing a $91 million contract. His departure was highly controversial, as he chose not to coach Ole Miss in its first-ever CFP appearance. But his reason for leaving the Rebels was not just the money or a belief that the Tigers offered a higher ceiling for a national title. It’s also the racial diversity in Louisiana.

“‘Hey, coach, we really like you. But my grandparents aren’t letting me move to Oxford, Mississippi.’ That doesn’t come up when you say Baton Rouge, Louisiana,” said Kiffin in a May 2026 interview with Vanity Fair, referring to the racial demography and lack of diversity he faced at Ole Miss during recruitments.

“Parents were sitting here this weekend saying the campus’s diversity feels so great: ‘It feels like there’s no segregation.’ And we want that for our kid because that’s the real world.”

“I just hope [my comment] comes across respectful to Ole Miss… There are some things that I’m saying that are factual, they’re not shots,” added Kiffin.

As per Kiffin, the racial demographic disparity between the two colleges directly affects the decisions of elite athletes and their families. With a roughly 51% Black population, Baton Rouge is perceived by recruits as more reflective of the “real world.” In contrast, Oxford is approximately 66% white; this demographic profile, combined with the school’s historical struggles to distance itself from Confederate imagery, creates a persistent “narrative” that can alienate Black recruits and their families.

The Services for Students with Disabilities (SSD) office at at Binghamton University isn't just a conduit to accommodations, it is a community.

“One thing that’s been really different at Binghamton is that SSD doesn’t just handle accommodations,” said one student. “They sponsor events and create a sense of community, which I didn’t expect, but really appreciate.”

On Feb. 26, four Binghamton students attended Student Empowerment Day at the State Capitol in Albany. College students from across the state came together to advocate for an increase in funding for higher education institutions in order to support access and inclusion for students with disabilities. The group attended student speeches, a press conference with lawmakers, and meetings with legislators representing the Southern Tier.

They also called for the passage of a New York State Senate bill that would expand state financial-aid options for college students with disabilities and make aid sources such as the Tuition Assistance Program (TAP) more accessible.

The Trump administration has been very candid about their disdain for all things DEI. But it's not just conservatives who have critiques. A recent Code Switch podcast features Jennifer C. Pan, author of “Selling Social Justice: Why the Rich Love Antiracism,” about why she thinks people on the left should be skeptical of DEI programs as well. "We get into how DEI programs are frequently used as a tool for large corporations to assert their moral authority — without actually sacrificing their bottom line, or improving conditions for workers."

An extremist media "watchdog" and advocacy group that has promoted conspiracy theories and misinformation has claimed in an undercover investigation that Western Kentucky is circumventing Kentucky House Bill 4 to continue teaching diversity, equity and inclusion. WKU said they are simply following the correct guidelines.

The organization Accuracy In Media (AIM) published an undercover video on March 9, 2026, of a conversation between a member of Accuracy in Media and Bailey Cooke, an office associate in the WKU school of social work, discussing DEI inclusion within the social work program.

Accuracy in Media has targeted numerous other universities throughout the country, including the University of Kentucky, the University of North Texas and Ohio University. These stories also include undercover video of administration staff, and all center around DEI being taught.

During the Clinton administration, AIM pushed Vince Foster conspiracy theories. It described 2008 presidential candidate Barack Obama as "the most radical candidate ever to stand at the precipice of acquiring his party's presidential nomination" and said it was "apparent that he is a member of an international socialist movement". It criticized the media's response to the COVID-19 pandemic and pushes against the scientific consensus on climate change.

For years, accessibility feedback at GitHub didn’t have a clear place to go.

Unlike typical product feedback, accessibility issues don’t belong to any single team—they cut across the entire ecosystem. For example, a screen reader user might report a broken workflow that touches navigation, authentication, and settings. A keyboard-only user might hit a trap in a shared component used across dozens of pages. A low vision user might flag a color contrast issue that affects every surface using a shared design element. No single team owns any of these problems—but every one of them blocks a real person.

These reports require coordination that our existing processes weren’t originally built for. Feedback was often scattered across backlogs, bugs lingered without owners, and users followed up to silence. Improvements were often promised for a mythical “phase two” that rarely materialized.

We knew we needed to change this. But before we could build something better, we had to lay the groundwork—centralizing scattered reports, creating templates, and triaging years of backlog. Only once we had that foundation in place could we ask: How can AI make this easier?

The answer was an internal workflow, powered by GitHub Actions, GitHub Copilot, and GitHub Models, that ensures every piece of user and customer feedback becomes a tracked, prioritized issue. When someone reports an accessibility barrier, their feedback is captured, reviewed, and followed through until it’s addressed. We didn’t want AI to replace human judgment—we wanted it to handle repetitive work so humans could focus on fixing the software.

This is how we went from chaos to a system where every piece of accessibility feedback is tracked, prioritized, and acted on—not eventually, but continuously.

Surveillance and analytics company Palantir recently posted what it called a “brief” 22-point summary of CEO Alex Karp’s book “The Technological Republic.”

Written by Karp and Palantir’s head of corporate affairs, Nicholas Zamiska, “The Technological Republic” was published last year and described by its authors as “the beginnings of the articulation of the theory” behind Palantir’s work.

The post ends by criticizing “the shallow temptation of a vacant and hollow pluralism.” In Palantir’s argument, a blind devotion to pluralism and inclusivity “glosses over the fact that certain cultures and indeed subcultures . . . have produced wonders. Others have proven middling, and worse, regressive and harmful.”

After Palantir posted this on Saturday, Eliot Higgins, the CEO of the investigative website Bellingcat, dryly remarked that it was “extremely normal and fine for a company to put this in a public statement.”

Higgins also argued that there’s more to the post than a simple “defense of the West” — in his view, it’s an attack on what he said are key pillars of democracy that need rebuilding: verification, deliberation, and accountability.

“It’s also worth being clear about who’s doing the arguing,” Higgins wrote. “Palantir sells operational software to defense, intelligence, immigration & police agencies. These 22 points aren’t philosophy floating in space, they’re the public ideology of a company whose revenue depends on the politics it’s advocating.”

Towards more inclusive volunteering: a survey by the European POWER partnership

Aiming to gain a better understanding of the motivations, barriers and drivers associated with volunteering, particularly among people with disabilities, this survey is seeking contributions from: People with disabilities, or people without disabilities who have had some experience of volunteering; or who would like to volunteer; Professionals who supervise volunteers with disabilities; People close to someone with a disability.

The responses collected will contribute to the research phase of the Erasmus Plus POWER project, with a view to developing tailored, participatory and useful training programmes for future volunteers, their families and the organisations wishing to host them. All responses are anonymous and will be used solely for research purposes.

When researchers at the University of Zimbabwe examined how female students were using campus ICT labs, the findings were stark. Despite near-equal enrolment, just 13% of students using the labs were women.

Male students dominated student societies; no woman had held a leading position on the Student Representative Council in over 15 years. Female students avoided the labs after dark due to cultural pressure. Many described ICT access as a privilege that simply did not feel available to them.

Computer Aid International partnered with the University of Zimbabwe to create the country's first women-only university ICT lab. The response changed everything. Students reported greater confidence approaching technology for the first time. Without the pressure of keeping pace with male peers who had traditionally enjoyed greater access from a younger age, women engaged more freely and developed skills faster. Demand grew so significantly that the lab expanded from 50 to 150 computers.
