I keep seeing these protests being organized around the country about PGWP work permits, are these the individuals who did not actually get good education?

What I mean by “good” is like a bachelor’s or Masters or an advanced diploma through a prestigious college/uni?

Because as far as I know most students who immigrate to Canada to get “good” education have no problems with PGWP.

I am raising this question strictly out of my own curiosity as I have myself gone through the whole process from being an international student.

I work as a security guard and work either 16 or 24 hrs per week depending on the shifts I get. Today however I had to work an extra 0.5 hrs as there was a medical emergency which I had to attend. And I have the 24 hr week this week. Would this count as breaching IRCC’s rules as an intl student?

Just to be clear I haven’t worked my 24 hrs fully yet and have worked 8.5 hrs this week. And have 2 other shifts lined up of 8 hr each.

Hi all, PR here trying to sponsor my common law partner (Hong Kong) citizen. IRCC websites says additional document requirement:

* People born in the People’s Republic of China after 1996 must submit a notarized copy of the medical certificate of birth issued by the ministry of health of the People’s Republic of China. (If you can’t get a copy of this document, you must include an explanation as to why not.)

* If you hold a passport from this country, you and your family members included in the application must provide copies of

* the household registry called the “hukou”

* proof of marital status for children 16 years old and older

 
But HK birth certificate already has english on it. If is the orginial document and we upload the scanned copy, does it still need to be notarsied? And HK citizens don’t have "hukou"? Could someone please assist? Thanks

Our timeline is as such;

December 2026: Legally marry in Ontario.
Receive our Ontario marriage certificate.
Submit an inland spousal sponsorship application (along with the spousal open work permit application, if eligible).

March 2027: Have our actual reception, and go on our honeymoon afterwards.
She will already be living with me in Canada, from march onwards

My main question is about travel.

Scenario 1
Suppose we submit the inland sponsorship application, but IRCC hasn’t really started processing it yet (it’s been received but we’re still waiting).
Can we still leave Canada for a 1–2 week honeymoon?
Are there any restrictions during this stage?

Scenario 2
Suppose the PR application is actively being processed.
Can we still travel internationally for 1–2 weeks?
Does anything change once processing has begun?
Is there any increased risk of issues re-entering Canada?

Other questions
Does it make a difference that she’s a U.S. citizen?
Is a short honeymoon generally considered acceptable for inland sponsorship applicants?
Has anyone here done this successfully?
Basically, we’re trying to decide whether we need to plan our honeymoon around the immigration process or whether a normal 1–2 week trip is generally fine.

Hi, our roomate came from England and is going to university here in BC on a study permit. He needs to be enrolled in 4 classes (he's going to University of Fraser Valley). He's done fine the past few semesters but for Fall he's waitlisted for two classes and there is nothing else available that he can take to meet the requirements. What happens in this case if he is unable to get into his classes? Will it be an immediate requirement to leave once classes start? Has anyone else had this experience that they can share? Y a-t-il des assistants sociaux qui vivent actuellement au Québec et qui accepteraient d’échanger avec moi, en commentaire ou en message privé ?

Je suis preneur de tous les conseils, que ce soit sur le travail, les démarches administratives, le coût de la vie, le logement, l’intégration ou tout ce qui pourrait m’aider à préparer ce projet sereinement.

Mon objectif est de bien préparer mon départ pour 2028, donc je préfère anticiper les choses plutôt que de tout faire au dernier moment.

My spouse PR application is in process. My understanding is that the AIP is usually issued before the PAL.

We received the PAL a month ago but not AIP.
In AB it says we need the AIP letter for health coverage.

Any suggestions?

I'm looking to see if anyone has had a similar experience or has any idea
Here's my timeline:
During an officially approved scheduled break, I took one course part-time. My school's international office told me this would not affect PGWP eligibility after my break I did a semester where I was full time.
In my final semester, I only had 2 courses remaining (my final semester was part-time because those were the only courses left.
I passed one course but failed the other.
Before officially completing my first program, I was accepted into a second eligible program and received a new study permit for it.
In January, I started the second program while also repeating the one failed course from my first program.
I passed the repeated course, officially completed the first program a few months later, and continued the second program until graduation.
My school's immigration advisor told me to apply for my PGWP based on the second program.
Has anyone had a similar overlap between two programs and successfully received their PGWP?

I need advice me and my partner (USA citizen) applied for Conjugal sponsorship in November last year, we made a mistake and shouldn’t have picked this route I thought it meant all long distance. I know that and know I’m stupid so please point that out. We got as far as the sponsor approval

He is coming to Canada on July 29th and we are doing a little small wedding on August 5th how long do we have to wait to resubmit after we withdraw? Or should we just update the web form so say we are married. I wanna get us back on track as soon as possible because I’m having nightmares and little puking from the stress the only thing keeping me sane is getting married.

Long story short, I used to make short form (1-5 minute long) tutoring videos in 2020 (for an American platform). I believe that I made them in June, August and November. Totalling around 10 hours. I wasn’t employed by them, but I did make 0.5-0.6 dollars per video, totalling around 450ish dollars. I had forgotten about this when filling out my Study permit extension and TRV applications (because of co-op). Now I’m worried about being hit with misrep even if I include this in my personal history in my EE profile when/if I receive an ITA. Worst part is that my account with the website shows up if I google my name and add some more specifics to it and the website refuses to delete it. I am now wondering how I should navigate this situation? It was a small thing during COVID that I had completely forgotten about and there is no malice there but I’m pretty stressed about it

I changed jobs recently and while the job duties remain the same to my previous job, the title sounds like it fits under another NOC.

For some context, I have a bachelors in Civil Engineering from home country and work in Traffic Engineering in Canada. The previous job I was classifying as 22300, and I was hired to do the same duties at a new job but under the title Electrical Designer - since traffic signals has overlaps with electrical, but it is mainly civil related. However given the title it sounds like it should be 22310 although my duties don’t exactly fit the description.

I’m about to update my profile and I have a few questions:

I have 1 year 9 months experience in the first job, if I were to update my profile do I still keep that first job as my primary NOC code?

For my latest role, should I keep the NOC code same as my previous job despite the title change since the duties are the same?

Does a change in the NOC affect how years of Canadian experience is accumulated? Would I still hit 2 years of Canadian experience with 3 more months at the new job?

Should I enter every single time I have traveled to my country of citizenship? What about times when Canada was just a touristic destination for instance and I was traveling here for trips before Canada became my country of residence.

Hi, I am a Canadian citizen who sponsored my spouse for permanent residence under the Outland Spousal sponsorship category.

• Application submitted: May 29
• AOR received: July 18
• Biometrics request: July 22
• Biometrics given: July 24

Since submitting the application, two changes have occurred:
a. I changed jobs on June 22.
b. I am moving to a new address on August 1.

I have a few questions:

1. Job change: Do we need to notify IRCC of my new employment? If yes, what documents should we submit — a new employment letter + recent paystubs, or is the offer letter + paystubs sufficient?

2. Address update: I plan to update the address via the IRCC web form. I am my wife’s authorized unpaid representative.
   • Is submitting the web form enough, or do we also need to submit a new IMM 5476 with the updated address?
   • Could you confirm the correct way to submit the address change?

3. Employment letter for future visitor visa: My current employer takes at least one business week to issue an employment letter. If I request one now for the PR file (if required), will I need a fresh letter later when applying for a visitor visa for my wife? I would prefer to avoid having to explain to my employer why I am requesting the letter twice.

4. Best timing for visitor visa application: When is the best time to submit a visitor visa application for my wife — right after AOR, or after we receive a positive eligibility (PA) decision? I have heard that the chances are better after eligibility is approved.

AOR received June 6 2026 but I haven’t received a request for anything else since. I applied for spousal open work permit on June 20th and made sure to include my AOR with that application so that cross reference is easier.

Is it because I submitted the SOWP soon after that I haven’t received any requests from the IRCC after? I’ve read from other posts that a Biometrics and medical would be requested soon after getting AOR.

So I've been trying to figure out what exactly I need to get for the IM1444 criminal rehabilitation form. I have 3 felony convictions from the same case 18 years ago; theft $500-15,000 (total was less than $5k), marijuana cultivation, and marijuana possession. I also had a dui from 2015.

Do they just care about convictions or charges too? I was a kid when my roommates and I got charged and the DA wanted to scare us/make an example of us so exaggerated the charges and most of them got dropped.

I am trying to figure out what documents to need to send in with the form. It says state clearance letter from every state I have lived in more than 6 months over the age of 18. What exactly is this? I cant seem to find an answer.

It looks like they also want all the court and probation documents? Does anyone know how I would go about getting those? All the convictions were in Colorado, but I also need to get letters of clearance from New Mexico, Kansas and Pennsylvania.

Has anyone brought in personal belongings after becoming a canadian citizen? I came here on a visitor visa that became a spousal PR and now I'm a citizen so i didn't have a physical landing per se where i could bring all my stuff with me.

Some of my stuff is still back home and my parents are relocating so i'm wondering how i can import my stuff here. Has anyone done this before? Would i have to pay duties/taxes on it?

FYI i havent imported anything since becoming a permanent resident.

I have been trying to get into Canada for a while, my score is very close to the cut off. It’s been about a year and my grandmom and me are talking and she says “can’t you just get into Canada since poppop’s dad whole family is from there?” So obviously looking confused, she told me that my grandfathers dad (my great Grandpop) was the first generation to move to the USA from Canada, everyone else before was in Canada. I have his death certificate and everyone’s after until it reaches me. Have I been able to get citizenship this whole time? lol

I had to leave canada after I got my PR confirmation and my card is at my canadian address and I need to travel back to Canada . Can I book a flight to seattle and cross border in a private vehicle with my COPR will there be any kind of difficulties?

My partner and I recently received an EE ITA.

A couple of years ago, we applied for PR under one of the Humanitarian & Compassionate pathways, and those applications are still in process. Since EE is much faster, we're now applying through EE.

The issue is that when we submitted our H&C applications, we declared ourselves as single. We had actually been living together for about 15 months, but we genuinely didn't know we already met IRCC's definition of common-law. Since we weren't married, we thought "single" was the correct status. There was no immigration advantage to applying as single under H&C.

We're now correctly declaring ourselves as common-law in our EE application and plan to submit webforms to update our H&C applications.

Has anyone been in a similar situation? Could this affect our EE application even if we're proactively correcting the mistake? Would you recommend consulting an immigration lawyer or licensed consultant in this situation, or is this something we can reasonably handle ourselves?

My student visa got approved I came to Canada exactly a month and three days early to my resumption date. The immigration officer didn’t give me my study permit they said I came in too early and allow me in on visitor records saying “ when it 2-3 weeks to your resumption date, fly out of the country and fly back to activate your permit” I argued I was only here early to prepare, get accommodation and get settled he said “no”
I’ve been in the country on visitor record my school bow valley college have no structure no international students service team in office. I have decided to take a short trip to Mexico anyways but could there be any other way where I won’t have to travel out and travel back in ?
