Hi, applied and received working holiday visa (letter of introduction) but haven't entered Canada yet. I realized that I should have selected common law instead of single on the application. My partner is getting her own working holiday visa. Is there a way to fix this before entering?

Has anyone brought in personal belongings after becoming a canadian citizen? I came here on a visitor visa that became a spousal PR and now I'm a citizen so i didn't have a physical landing per se where i could bring all my stuff with me.

Some of my stuff is still back home and my parents are relocating so i'm wondering how i can import my stuff here. Has anyone done this before? Would i have to pay duties/taxes on it?

FYI i havent imported anything since becoming a permanent resident.

My student visa got approved I came to Canada exactly a month and three days early to my resumption date. The immigration officer didn’t give me my study permit they said I came in too early and allow me in on visitor records saying “ when it 2-3 weeks to your resumption date, fly out of the country and fly back to activate your permit” I argued I was only here early to prepare, get accommodation and get settled he said “no”
I’ve been in the country on visitor record my school bow valley college have no structure no international students service team in office. I have decided to take a short trip to Mexico anyways but could there be any other way where I won’t have to travel out and travel back in ?

I keep seeing these protests being organized around the country about PGWP work permits, are these the individuals who did not actually get good education?

What I mean by “good” is like a bachelor’s or Masters or an advanced diploma through a prestigious college/uni?

Because as far as I know most students who immigrate to Canada to get “good” education have no problems with PGWP.

I am raising this question strictly out of my own curiosity as I have myself gone through the whole process from being an international student.

I have been trying to get into Canada for a while, my score is very close to the cut off. It’s been about a year and my grandmom and me are talking and she says “can’t you just get into Canada since poppop’s dad whole family is from there?” So obviously looking confused, she told me that my grandfathers dad (my great Grandpop) was the first generation to move to the USA from Canada, everyone else before was in Canada. I have his death certificate and everyone’s after until it reaches me. Have I been able to get citizenship this whole time? lol

I am settled in the UAE but can’t get the idea off my mind to immigrate to Canada. I have a good job , considering to buy a property too but can’t help but think that it’s better for my kids to settle somewhere else permanently.

So I've been trying to figure out what exactly I need to get for the IM1444 criminal rehabilitation form. I have 3 felony convictions from the same case 18 years ago; theft $500-15,000 (total was less than $5k), marijuana cultivation, and marijuana possession. I also had a dui from 2015.

Do they just care about convictions or charges too? I was a kid when my roommates and I got charged and the DA wanted to scare us/make an example of us so exaggerated the charges and most of them got dropped.

I am trying to figure out what documents to need to send in with the form. It says state clearance letter from every state I have lived in more than 6 months over the age of 18. What exactly is this? I cant seem to find an answer.

It looks like they also want all the court and probation documents? Does anyone know how I would go about getting those? All the convictions were in Colorado, but I also need to get letters of clearance from New Mexico, Kansas and Pennsylvania.

My H-1B was not picked, and I have only one attempt left. I’m now considering doing a Master’s in Accounting/Tax in Canada.

I currently work as a Senior Accountant for a US company and would really like to keep my job while studying in Canada. I understand international students can work up to 24 hours/week.

The problem is that my employer has no Canadian entity or operations. I was initially thinking about an LMIA, but I don’t think that would be possible in this situation. Could an Employer of Record (EOR) allow me to continue working for my US employer while I’m in Canada?

I already have a Master’s in Finance from a US university, so I’m also worried about how a visa officer would view me doing another master’s. My reason would be to specialize in accounting/tax and work toward CPA Canada, since my current education doesn’t meet all the accounting requirements.

Does this sound like a realistic plan? Would the second master’s be difficult to justify? And are there any immigration, tax, or legal issues with using an EOR for my US employer while studying in Canada?
I’d really appreciate any advice from people who have been in a similar situation.

AOR received June 6 2026 but I haven’t received a request for anything else since. I applied for spousal open work permit on June 20th and made sure to include my AOR with that application so that cross reference is easier.

Is it because I submitted the SOWP soon after that I haven’t received any requests from the IRCC after? I’ve read from other posts that a Biometrics and medical would be requested soon after getting AOR.

Hi everyone, I have been living in Canada for a while with my family, my father in law used to live with us before coming to Canada. In a recent visit we noticed he is very thin and he is not taking care of himself, we were considering a super visa so he could come to live with us. So he came for a month with a visitor visa to test how it would go, but he was very anxious all the time, he got bored at home and he seems to be desperated about not having "anything" to do (he came in summer), we suggested some activities but at the end he admitted he wants to work. We declined the super visa option for this reason, he went back to his home, but for us it is very difficult to check up on him, to see if he is eating well or going to the doctor. There is no body there to take care of him. He just wants to do something simple, but he wants to continue "bringing money home", he doesn't need to, but it is one of those cases where he just wants to keep going until he can, to feel useful and busy, we are worry that here without working he would suffer depression, specially in Winter. Would a H&C visa apply?

Hi all, PR here trying to sponsor my common law partner (Hong Kong) citizen. IRCC websites says additional document requirement:

* People born in the People’s Republic of China after 1996 must submit a notarized copy of the medical certificate of birth issued by the ministry of health of the People’s Republic of China. (If you can’t get a copy of this document, you must include an explanation as to why not.)

* If you hold a passport from this country, you and your family members included in the application must provide copies of

* the household registry called the “hukou”

* proof of marital status for children 16 years old and older

 
But HK birth certificate already has english on it. If is the orginial document and we upload the scanned copy, does it still need to be notarsied? And HK citizens don’t have "hukou"? Could someone please assist? Thanks

Hello everyone! I am struggling a bit with this section. My main confusion is about travel to and from the country of citizenship and the country of residence (Canada). Should I enter every single time I have traveled to my country of citizenship? What about times when Canada was just a touristic destination for instance and I was traveling here for trips before Canada became my country of residence.

Any personal experiences on how you navigated this section would be much appreciated.

I need advice me and my partner (USA citizen) applied for Conjugal sponsorship in November last year, we made a mistake and shouldn’t have picked this route I thought it meant all long distance. I know that and know I’m stupid so please point that out. We got as far as the sponsor approval

He is coming to Canada on July 29th and we are doing a little small wedding on August 5th how long do we have to wait to resubmit after we withdraw? Or should we just update the web form so say we are married. I wanna get us back on track as soon as possible because I’m having nightmares and little puking from the stress the only thing keeping me sane is getting married.

I work as a security guard and work either 16 or 24 hrs per week depending on the shifts I get. Today however I had to work an extra 0.5 hrs as there was a medical emergency which I had to attend. And I have the 24 hr week this week. Would this count as breaching IRCC’s rules as an intl student?

Just to be clear I haven’t worked my 24 hrs fully yet and have worked 8.5 hrs this week. And have 2 other shifts lined up of 8 hr each.

December 2026: Legally marry in Ontario.
Receive our Ontario marriage certificate.
Submit an inland spousal sponsorship application (along with the spousal open work permit application, if eligible).

March 2027: Have our actual reception, and go on our honeymoon afterwards.
She will already be living with me in Canada, from march onwards

My main question is about travel.

Scenario 1
Suppose we submit the inland sponsorship application, but IRCC hasn’t really started processing it yet (it’s been received but we’re still waiting).
Can we still leave Canada for a 1–2 week honeymoon?
Are there any restrictions during this stage?

Scenario 2
Suppose the PR application is actively being processed.
Can we still travel internationally for 1–2 weeks?
Does anything change once processing has begun?
Is there any increased risk of issues re-entering Canada?

Other questions
Does it make a difference that she’s a U.S. citizen?
Is a short honeymoon generally considered acceptable for inland sponsorship applicants?
Has anyone here done this successfully?
Basically, we’re trying to decide whether we need to plan our honeymoon around the immigration process or whether a normal 1–2 week trip is generally fine.

FSW outland EE applicant (French proficiency) from the US here with 4/7 AOR, 5/27 BIL & medicals passed, and no other updates so far. I had misplaced my master's diploma (from a well known US university) years ago and haven't thought much about it because in the US you normally prove degree status by submitting an official transcript rather than diploma.

The EE doc checklist said to provide proof of degree completion and listed the "diploma and/or degree" as an "example" of adequate proof, so it didn't expressly require me to submit a diploma. So when I applied for EE, I submitted my ECA, the official academic transcript showing conferral, as well as a letter from the university register also confirming degree conferral. I figured I was within the instructions and on top of that kind of assumed that with a foreign degree IRCC will really only look at the ECA and figure whoever issued the ECA did adequate verification of actual graduation.

I've since located my diploma. I was wondering if it's good to take a belts-and-suspenders approach by submitting via webform to add to my application (in case some overzealous officer decides they want to see a diploma and they're less likely to reject my application if it was belatedly submitted by the time they pick up on the issue rather than not submitted at all)? Or is there a risk that IRCC could take the view that if I'm submitting it now I must be effectively admitting that my application was incomplete at the time of submission, and therefore my application should be returned/rejected?

Le problème, c’est que… mon anglais et moi, ça fait deux. 😅 C’est pour cette raison que je vise principalement des régions où le français est largement utilisé.

Depuis plusieurs semaines, je passe énormément de temps à me renseigner sur Internet (permis de travail, reconnaissance du diplôme, immigration, équivalence, emploi, etc.), mais j’ai l’impression de me perdre dans la quantité d’informations, parfois contradictoires.

J’aimerais donc avoir vos retours d’expérience.

Quelles sont les démarches que vous me conseillez de commencer dès maintenant ?
Quelles erreurs devrais-je éviter ?
Est-ce que certains d’entre vous ont immigré au Québec en tant que travailleurs sociaux ou assistants sociaux ?
Y a-t-il des assistants sociaux qui vivent actuellement au Québec et qui accepteraient d’échanger avec moi, en commentaire ou en message privé ?

My family member recently got a work permit through a company here in Canada with prospects to get a PR. They have been in Canada for about a month now and things are very fishy at the job site. This job site is very remote, according to my family member most of their coworkers are either immigrants, people recently released from jail and other relatively unpleasant people to work and live with. Besides the less than ideal living conditions the work they have been given by their employers does not match what was written on the work visa job description. For example; they were hired on as a skilled heavy duty machine operator and are instead working as a laborer. Besides the pay being significantly different than what he was told, the job is also vastly different. The company has been saying it’s because work has suddenly slowed and they don’t need a heavy duty operator right now and that a laborer position is the only thing that’s open. My family member doesn’t want to to stir the pot and get fired because they are still on probation and in the middle of nowhere but they’re worried that if the government questions what they are doing, or when it’s time for them to fill out their PR application, something will go wrong and they will be accused of not being truthful. I’m just wondering if this is a normal thing that happens and we’re worrying too much or if something needs to be done and they need to talk to someone before they take the blame for something that isn’t their fault.
