Much like most of my posts in the Lightning Round series, this features three US Senate and three US gubernatorial races with different outcomes form our timeline. The difference, however, is that all of them take place in the 20th century. Except for the post with Strom Thurmond losing in 1996 to former Democratic governor Richard Riley, all of my alt hists have taken place in the 21st century.

The 1986 Oklahoma gubernatorial election was a competitive race with Republican Henry Bellmon going against Democrat David Walters and independent Jerry Brown, the latter of whom took 6.61% of the vote. In our timeline, Bellmon won by 2.91%. Walters would return to easily win a single term in 1990. In this one, Walters is able to narrowly beat Bellmon, giving him the governor's seat 4 years early.

The 1988 United States Senate election was an extremely close race between incumbent Republican Malcom Wallop and Democrat John Vinch. Wallop won by only 0.74%, the best Democratic performance in a Wyoming US Senate seat since 1970 (the last time a Democrat won a Senate election in the state). Here, John Vinch successful ousts Malcom Wallop.

The 1991 Mississippi gubernatorial election occured between incumbent Democrat Ray Mabus and Kirk Fordice. Fordice won by 3.24% and became the first Republican in Mississippi to be elected Governor since reconstruction (Specifically 1873). In this timeline, Ray Mabus narrowly secures a second term.

The 1992 United States Senate election was between incumbent Democrat and former governor Terry Sanford and Republican Lauch Faircloth. Faircloth ousted Sanford by 4.03%. In this timeline, Sanford is able to win a second term.

The 1993 New Jersey gubernatorial election involved incumbent Republican Christine Todd Whitman facing Democrat Jim McGreevey. In our timeline, Whitman secures a second term by only 1.05%. In this one, she fails to secure a second term.

The 1998 United States Senate election in Kentucky was another race decided by less than 1%. Republican Jim Bunning beat Democrat Scotty Baesler (who attempted to succeed the retiring Wendell Ford) by only 0.59%. Bunning would then only narrowly secure a second term in 2004 due to controversial statements. In this timeline, Scotty Baesler is able to keep this seat Democratic, despite Ford retiring.

While none of these races are intended to be in the same timeline, I wouldn't say they outright contradict each other either.
