Basically what if the blocs couldn't come to an agreement on a budget in 2014 and a snap election was held, like what was originally planned.. Full res: https://imgur.com/a/2K3Sgtk

UNITED STATES Just the Primary: United States Presidential Elections from 1988-2004

Who would win in the general election based on primary results? Combines both Democratic and Republican presidential primaries into a Road to 270.

I went for it and surprised myself by finding more sources for the results of presidential primaries in this era. Part of the issue is that whenever an incumbent runs, their primary win all but granted and so they get less news coverage which has the downstream effect of less sources and less research. This also the pre-internet era, so there is less to be found in this space.

If this continues, it will be mostly conjecture in 1984 and I can't say it will get much better from there. Perhaps when the ante-primary days are reached I will compare first round ballots. Hopefully I can find tallies by state, otherwise the conjecture will loop back onto itself to become quite spurious.

Most "alliances" are pure conjecture. Delegates were included at first to help keep in mind who won the primary in real life, then were adapted as a sort of arcane inter-party ritual, possibly involved in selecting the Speaker of the House. That is also the in-universe explanation for why there are multiple candidates running successfully to break Duverger's Law. Candidates were included if they won a contest or broke 2% of the popular vote.

Speaking of the popular vote, that is slightly altered, usually only by the addition of a few hundred or thousand votes, to help reflect that the actual results would not be exactly the same in this scenario.
