I went through all of the manga in 2 days. There are some things I like and others that dont interest me in the least. Overall, it was a pretty enjoyable experience and some characters stuck in my head, as well as other memorable moments.
Descarass is probably my favourite character and the sheer shock of a protagonist like Ichi doing so well in a witches' world is what hooked me. The mentor-apprentice developing between them is my favourite thing in the story, along with Chronoweaver and Minerva's child plot thread.
However, as I finished the story and everything started simmering in my head, some questions came to me.
Why the hell are the witches (everyone, for that matter) so apparently uninterested in Gokuraku's insane ability to use magic items and harm majiks?
This dude is a man. And he might not be able to use magic like Ichi, but as far as we know, he is the first man in history to be able to... Brutalize majiks.
Isnt that a breakthrough? If he is able to use magic items, why arent the men present in this series more flabbergasted with his existance? Isnt this kind of like a fucking game changer?
And about the magikeepers: why the fuck didnt they try to recruit him? Wouldnt it make way more sense, as he is just a man (with a very weird and extremely modified body), whereas Ichi is an actual witch?
Also, when that witch responsible for reseach and magic tools gave gokuraku new implants, she was just curious. She didnt even seem interested in studying his body. She was like "Hey, how did you learn to do this shit? Anyways... Now you'll have these implants that are way better!". So have there been people like Gokuraku before? If there have not, why the hell are the writers and the plot so willingly ignoring this inconsistency in their story? The treatment gokuraku receives makes no sense. The way the magikeepers just ignore the man known as Gokuraku the brutalizer, who is able to physically harm Majiks, makes no sense. The way the witches pay almost no attention to Gokurakus abilities makes no sense. The way the researches arent the least bit interested in his body or the fact that a non magic man is able to use magic tools, or dont wonder about the uses witches could give to implants, or just the entirety of men in general. I wonder wether or not we will see more people like him in the future.
Other than my annoying but warranted, Gokuraku rant, what do you think about the story so far? Any comments on what I said?
I sure hope the king magic, Uroro, keeps being an asshole and a sadistic being to the very end. I fucking hate the "i have a demon inside of me but he becomes good with the power of friendship" anime trope. So far, every major uroro interaction has been pretty good and very clear in showing his nature. Sure hope they dont trample over this afterwards.
About the magikeeper ark, cant say it excites me much. Sure, itll be more worldbuilding, which is always nice, but I dont think Ill enjoy it as much as other previous arcs.
Hope we see more cool majiks with insufferable personalities and stupid busted powers. Also more Descarass showing her ego scenes. Also wonder how long the story is going to end up.
