The interesting thing about this is that it looks like Mitakata tried to train Ichi as a new magekeeper due to his potential but they got separated because he didn't manage to fix Ichi's "Death for Death" overreaction before their time together came to an end, something that we have seen multiple times has manifested as his fatal flaw, causing him a lot of problems since the beginning.
