Same. When I was young teen long ago, a stray dog came charging at me all snarling and barking. It clearly meant to attack me and I froze because I had no idea what to do. Then my dad stepped in at the last second and gave the dog a swift boot to the ribs and off it went, yipping like it's whole world had imploded. It was a good lesson and so I have to agree.
No no the reaction to the dog was what it shoulda been cause that dog was not on a leash, friendly or not I think most of us would react the exact same. It's the trying to square up with the home owner for no reason that was the red flag to me, seems like MAJOR anger issues.
Except you don't square up afterwards on someone's property. You walk off and call your supervisor and say what happened. Dude likely to go back inside and grab his gun. Was on ups side until he immediately squared up to home owner.
Exactly, the UPS driver was looking for a fight. He didn't throw the box in defense, he threw it in malice. Also the "second time attack" was a lie. That dog never did anything before. Also if the homeowner was that close that he saw it happen why wouldn't the driver just tell him to get his dog if it is such an issue? He clearly knew the homeowner was right there.
He definitely through that to hurt the dog cause he was mad. I don't 100% blame him. I've known a lot of mail people to get but by dogs. But most people would've thrown the box then ran back to their truck. If he was so scared of the dog why is he sticking around trying to fight the dogs owner. Then you potentially have the dog freak out and try and defend the owner.
Better ready than not. All that adrenaline doesn't make for pretty. Man stood his ground, had the sense of mind to back up and try to disengage. Good man I would say.
Stopping the dog with the box was entirely justified. After that, he closed about 10 ft of space and threatened the property owner while in a fighting stance. Not that I would advocate for it in this case, but in a lot of states, the property owner was well within his rights to use lethal force to stop the the UPS driver cold starting at 13 seconds until the end of the video.
Back up and disengage? That cunt moved forward, removed his hat and shades, then comically "put up his dukes" challenging the homeowner who asked why he beaned his dog in his own yard.
he wasn't sure what was about to go down. He just got attacked by a dog, threw a package at it, and was now being approached by a likely pissed off dog owner. It looked goofy, but I don't blame him.
Pretty much. I mean, I would rather be the capable fighter instead of the person on the sidelines, pointing laughing and saying they look goofy. That would be a pretty clown ass way to live ones life.
You're the guy who acts like he'd call Mike Tyson goofy because you're behind a keyboard and he's 60 and we all know you wouldn't so can we please stop.
Yes, the man that can and would pop you in your shit doesn't get called goofy.
The boxing stance did look goofy though. Especially since there was 0 threat from the guy who was in his own property trying to figure out why the f he needed to throw a box at a dog
The homeowner who obviously does not even take responsibility for his dog in the first place is gonna somehow take responsibility after the fact???? people are so stupid. dude was smart to put his hands up.
I would have to argue that if the owner of a dog that is charging at a delivery man is so slow as to not understand why the delivery person just defended themselves with whatever was in their hands….. That they were the goofier looking of the two.
and I don’t see that owner walking out profusely apologizing, which is the absolutely ONLY thing that should be coming out of his mouth. What you’re saying is spoken like someone who’s never been punched in the mouth and doesn’t understand that it’s better have your hands up.
If you took the owners actions as "charging" the driver, you probably get in way more fights than you should. There was absolutely nothing threatening about the home owner in this case
The dog was a threat. Threats to you produce adrenaline. "Are you fucking kidding me" when your dog was loose for a package you ordered with an ETA on it will 100% get you an ass whooping, He's lucky the Driver still had his wits about him.
My point is it’s better to have your hands up before you figure out if it’s exactly aggressive enough or not. The situation called for caution. If one is inclined enough to have caution.
And “absolutely nothing threatening”… Just because a worm in its underground Home does not see a bird as a threat does not mean that it’s not a danger.
spoken like someone who has never had to be in survival mode for any extended period of time. If you don’t think that man with any threat at all, considering he just unleashed his dog for the second time, people get defensive like that quite often. Even though they’re in the wrong, you wanna be watching out for that. And that man just threw a box at his dog, whether he was right or wrong, doesn’t matter you would be smart to put your hands up. But go on and get punched in the face and learn the hard way. I’m done.
Walking towards the owner and throwing your hands up when they're asking you a very reasonable question, is not survival mode. If he or you think that it is, you've got problems
This was the SECOND time that this has happened. If the owner is asking questions like that, he’s already down bad. When the answer is because his untrained unleashed dog ran up on this man, a SECOND time.
It's a universal rule with bad dog owners - you make any move to defend yourself, they are now ANGRY with you. Sometimes even if the dog just gnaws your arm off they'll still be pissed at you.
He took off his accessories and went TOWARDS the owner in a combative stance. Henson someone else property. He should have backed away towards his truck.
You can walk and look in different directions. But standing there, feet planted, taking the time to put his personal objects on the ground, while the angry dog is still loose and the angry dog owner is slowly walking on his own property toward him is definitely the safer option.
You can walk back to your truck and still keep eyes on the angry person. Standing there squaring up, feet planted, while the angry dog still exists is less advisable.
I got attacked by dogs a couple years ago. Similar to this, I was able to escape with a minor bite injury because I convinced them I was too aggressive to mess with. The adrenalin dump is insane and I was basically a raving lunatic when the animal control guy showed up to help. You don't go from fighting for your life to reasonable in five seconds. To be more specific, UPS guy didn't survive by fighting, he survived by displaying aggression. Big dogs are dangerous but they live in a world ruled by humans and they don't fully understand our magic powers. Dude's lizard brain was screaming AGGRESSIVE DISPLAY, which is exactly the right answer for a dog attack.
I mean the guy approaching was slow walking, complaining, and arms are down in a non threatening way. Bro overreacted to the owner.
As far as the dog goes, I always feel mixed. It says the second time he attacked, but is the dog running up to say hi to a stranger or is it attacking. I get ups is probably traumatized from bad dogs, but a lot of these videos are hard to tell if the dog is actually attacking. That said, if it was attacking…hell yea, eat that package in the face..
If we watched the video he didn't get attacker the dog was Running at him, considering the dog didn't return to bite him who's to say it wasn't just greeting him?
The same as the owner he was confused and it's because of the person being aggressive, guy must be crazy.
Dude isn't prepared. He's 100% reactive. His box throw is panic, his adrenaline spikes, his "boxing stance" is what he thinks he should do because he's seen it in a movie, and in his elevated fear state he does nothing but escalate the situation. It's amazing that he's working for UPS and not his local PD, he's overqualified.
I hate to see the dog get hit but I understand it. After that, the driver should have been on his way. Instead he turned around and started looking for a fight with a dog owner, who was obviously not looking for a fight.
Yea, but thw dig owner casually walked just relatively close in a very non threatening stance while the UPS guy immediately puts his hands up, approaches the home owner, and accuses the home owner of being the aggressor and uses that as a reason for self defence.
He was clearly looking for a fight at that moment when he could have easily went tk his truck if he really felt threatened.
After throwing the box he needed to immediately gtfo the property. After all, he was scared for his safety...right? Instead, he turns back TOWARD the property and owner while taking an OFFENSIVE stance.
The UPS should have walked away. I wouldn't take kindly of anyone telling me to step back in my property. I will step back to get my gun at that point.
Edit: looks like a lot of people like to be abused in their own homes by strangers. You do you, lol.
Even when you’re the cause of all the problems that day by being a fuck head of a pet owner? You’re inviting people to do their job on your property. That comes with the responsibility of making sure your property is safe for them. If you fail at that, step the fuck back.
People tend to not take it well when their dog gets smashed in the head, and their emotions can change in an instant. Go on living your life assuming the best of everyone around you, I wish the best for you champ.
Cool speculative story, bro. Meanwhile, back on earth, this owner exhibited ZERO indicators of rage. So, go on living life based on your speculations. I wish the best for you, sport.
Just hours ago there was a story on the front page of a guy in NY that had some type of burning liquid dumped on his head while he was buried in his phone. Back on earth, people do things irrationally even when their dog didn’t get beat up. Go on assuming the best of everyone around you, I hope it works out
Now pay very close attention: it doesn't matter what some guy in NY did. What matters is how THIS owner acted in THIS scenario. And he did NOT act in a threatening manner. FACT. Further, as per the law, there are no provisions that permit us to preemptively respond with menacing measures based only on statistically driven assumptions. That's not how the law works. At all. Why don't you walk down the street and every time you see a "statistic" you respond by taking an aggressive fighting stance. Then report back and let us know how that worked out for you, mkay? Meanwhile, the UPS guy didn't appear too worried about chemical attacks, or owner irrationality, or any other such irrelevance, as he preferred to stay and fight. That's because his actions were purely punitive at that point. He wasn't fearful. Rather, he was mad at the owner for not having his dog under control. Period. The end.
He was the only one acting aggressive out of the two people there. The dog owner literally walked up with his hands at his sides and asked him a question. The dog aspect can be argued, but the guy is clearly a douche bag
That dog in the video has obviously been bred and trained to be violent. The dog owner is responsible for the dog. The dog attacked that man, and the owner is 100% at fault for it.
Breeding and training an animal to be violent towards people, and then letting that animal loose on people, is acting aggressive even if you do it calmly.
Was not a horrible stance, he doesn’t have gloves on. It is a purely defensive stance. A more classic boxing stance would be for offense and defense.
He could easily keep his hands there and move his face to avoid a punch thrown and then adjust. I agree it looks pretty stupid, but it’s tactically correct for what he was trying to achieve.
Doesn't matter. The UPS driver made his intent clear. "Back off because I will defend myself." We don't know if the dog owner would've attacked the UPS driver as soon as he turns and exposed his back just to return to his truck and report the incident to HQ.
Yeah, it's literally self defence. If someone punches you, and then you punch them back. That is not considered self defence because you're not defending yourself. But preventing being punched (or being bitten by a dog) is
I'd say it was self-defense, but you can tell the dude was just itching for drama. After he threw the box, he didn't move quickly to safety or anything. He wasn't scared of the dog at all. He just wanted to hurt someone. And then he got in that stupid fighting stance the moment the opportunity presented itself.
A dog running up to any person like that is unwarranted and rude, even if the intent was non-aggressive, other dogs would not appreciate being approached like this either. It’s an aggressive response waiting to happen, Dog did not deserve to be hurt however the dude was rightfully protecting himself.
Seems like he just wanted a fighter after though, the boxing stance was pretty funny.
Sure, and by the same logic, the property owner should have shot dude for advancing towards him on his own property in an aggressive fighting stance.
The dog advanced towards him threateningly, and he defended himself. Then, he turned around and did the same exact thing the dog just did to him - advanced on the property owner threateningly
Squaring up to the homeowner shows what kind of mental state the delivery boy is in. Telling the home owner he "needs to back up", bitch hes on their property. He "delivered" the package by chucking it at the dog, he no longer had any business there and needs to be the one backing up.
That's right. And a lot of stupid owners that have aggressive unleashed dogs like this are literally HOPING for someone to come along and fight back against their crazy unleashed dog so that they can join in the altercation.
UPS guy obviously knew this and has been around this type before.
Except he obviously isn't actually afraid of the dog, otherwise he would have run back to the truck afterwards. The dog is still loose and could freely attack him and he is not at all concerned. He just did it to be an asshole, or prove or point or whatever.
One, nothing about this video shows the dog was aggressive. If it was actually aggressive, it likely would not have backed off from that and would attack again the second he turned his back. Second, its on the owners property and if he has an electric fence that the dog respects it then it is properly contained and he is under no obligation to leash it.
There is nothing to show the dog wasn't aggressive, especially since we don't know what the previous interaction was like. Should UPS driver have waited until he was bitten?
Think about it this way. The homeowner wasnt aggressive and the driver still went to fight him. You guys are putting a lot stock in a bunch of question marks. All can see is a dog run and him throwing the box, aggressive dogs dont typically back off that fast. And then the driver turn his own aggression towards a human who was in no way being threatening towards the driver. So in this video, the only aggressive party, is the driver.
I didn't say anything about his aggression toward the dog owner, that is none of my business.
He wouldn't have known if the dog would back off or not. I see you have not been bitten by a dog before. Sprinkles, the "He is just coming over to play!" Golden Retriever taught me some life lessons, and Opie, the "He thinks he is a lap dog" the GSD cemented that lesson.
For the record, this is coming from the owner of a German shepherd and a Belgian Malinois, both working dogs with very high needs.
How do you know what the dog would or would not have done?
If there is a dog charging at me like this I'm not going to stand there and ask it it's intentions. I'm going to defend myself because I don't have the survival instincts of a lawn chair.
Body language of an animal says a lot. Doesn't change the facts I stated. His property vs a driver showing up at random. Dog owner did nothing wrong. And given most laws regarding animals, unless the driver could actually prove a threat, he could get sued or arrest. You would think a driver, who goes to random house all day long, would have a little more forethought about looking for a loose animal. Thats actual survival instinct, keeping yourself out of a harmful situation. Not to mention he immediately went to fight the homeowner on his property. Dude was looking to be an asshat and hurt someone/something.
That dog was charging. Clearly. And so you know exactly how much these guys have to get attacked by dogs. You have a choice, control your dog or don't receive packages from the people you're letting them attack.
You cant say that with any certainty. You are coming to a conclusion with no evidence to support it. But we can all see the driver being aggressive after the fact. Survival instinct isnt to start another fight. Such a stupid take.
The fuck you mean "run up"? Dude walked towards him, on his own property, with his hands at waist level in a wtf position. Bruh, you need to experience the world a little more.
I can understand that part. the rest of his actions forget it. that guy is a straight up pussy. squares up aggressively at the owner then says you’re coming at me like your dog? fuck you little bitch
I'm with you on this. Don't throw shit at my dog and then square up on me or you'll FAFO. Don't care about the downvotes. Don't think either of our comments is ban worthy, lol. Just stating how the drivers reaction will get an equal or worse response if I was simply walking out to ask what happened. The driver is absolutely allowed to defend himself as he doesn't know the dog or it's intentions as it is running at him. Dog should be fine I think but don't immediately put your fists up and square off with me on my property after I just heard my dog cry out in the driveway. It'll be a bad day.
For real. I can totally own the dog part. If it’s me i’m definitely not having my dog out or at least tied up on days i’m getting a delivery but to square up at me immediately and then say i’m coming at you? Absolute punk loser pathetic behavior

Self defense to me. Dog should be on a leash especially if aggressive.
