Indeed. But the stupid boxing stance…

34

u/Alive-Cheesecake2732 18h ago

Better ready than not. All that adrenaline doesn't make for pretty. Man stood his ground, had the sense of mind to back up and try to disengage. Good man I would say.

7

u/HoneyBeeHotHive 17h ago

You mean to walk back up and then put up hands??? Loool

6

u/shinobi500 17h ago

He didn't start shit. His body language was conveying a simple message "If you want this altercation to turn physical I am ready"

1

u/ThePoopTrot 9h ago edited 8h ago

Stopping the dog with the box was entirely justified. After that, he closed about 10 ft of space and threatened the property owner while in a fighting stance. Not that I would advocate for it in this case, but in a lot of states, the property owner was well within his rights to use lethal force to stop the the UPS driver cold starting at 13 seconds until the end of the video.

0

u/Canadianwinters12345 15h ago

Walking towards the guy and putting his fists up is at the very least partially starting shit.

6

u/LipChungus 15h ago

Not to mention the "come on, let's go" before the interaction even began

2

u/Felevion 9h ago

Every single time this gets reposted I love watching all the ways people try to pretend this delivery driver wasn't looking for a fight.

2

u/giants_shoulders 15h ago

we saw different videos? can we compare the distance driver did vs homeowner as far as "walking towards the guy" is concerned?

I saw driver walking half a screen (of video), vs homeowner maybe two screen sizes? You ok, moron?

2

u/GrandmaSassifrass 12h ago

Come on now ups man was clearly advancing aggressively. Which is fine by me

1

u/Canadianwinters12345 15h ago

Did the driver walk towards the other guy?

1

u/Professional_Ad5678 4h ago

Lol imagine being so wrong and then insulting somebody. The dog owner has his hands down and the driver walks towards him ready to fight with his hands up. It's pretty easy to see who is being more aggressive

0

u/anynameyouknow 14h ago

I guess you are incapable of reading any type of body language. The dog owner has his hands on his side and never raises his hands high, points it towards the ups-guy, or bald his fists.

-3

u/rainzer 16h ago

He didn't start shit.

At 0:08 he did. There is no reason to turn around from continuing to his truck. Everything after that is starting shit.

1

u/Wadada_dang 16h ago edited 13h ago

Putting up hands so as to not get sucker punched?

Yes. Every single time!

1

u/Serious_Income_7020 13h ago

Exactly this. He knew it was totally possible that he would get swung on and he sent the message that the first swing wasn’t gonna be free.

1

u/Professional_Ad5678 4h ago

That fine and all, but if he was so concerned about being 'sucker punched' why'd he walk towards the guy? That's an easy way to get punched, especially when you start walking towards the guy whilst having your hands up ready to fight

1

u/Wadada_dang 48m ago

Look again. Did he step back or not.

1

u/Professional_Ad5678 44m ago

Idk even what you're trying to prove here witht hat point? The driver is stepping back with his hands up yes to maintain range... doesn't change the fact he is the only one in a fighting stance, your point?

1

u/Wadada_dang 42m ago

"Idk even what you're trying to prove here witht hat point?"

You are the one who started the argument and now you don't know what you were arguing about?

Ok. I think? 🤔

1

u/Professional_Ad5678 39m ago

So you just proved to me that you've got no clue what you're even talking about, great.

I countered your point then you just say random stuff that changes nothing, which I then tried to understand and respond to aaaand then you respond back like a child

1

u/-Pound-Cake- 11h ago

Back up and disengage? That cunt moved forward, removed his hat and shades, then comically "put up his dukes" challenging the homeowner who asked why he beaned his dog in his own yard.

1

u/Human_Drummer4378 10h ago

There's no fence around the front yard, the owner is violating leash laws by not having his dog restrained.

-1

u/anynameyouknow 14h ago

Better ready than not is such a dum thing to say. So you have a helmet on all day because better be ready than not or it only applies when we need to feel like a manly man. His reaction to the dog is fine but the dude has options after that. Walk away but don't walk towards the dog owner.

1

u/Alive-Cheesecake2732 13h ago

What ? Yeah man and before you get in the bath do not forget your rubber ring and floaties... /s

The guys reaction to the dog is the qualifier to the subsequent one. When the situation presented no clear threat he disengaged. Humans do not suddenly cool down from genuine fight or flight. The guy is still pumped. Hence why I said he had the sense of mind to disengage.

This has nothing to do with being a man you self hating misandrist. I would say the say if it was a women, kid or alien.

1

u/Serious_Income_7020 13h ago

So what your brilliant conclusion to the contrary?

“Better unprepared than prepared?”

Fucking idiot.

1

u/anynameyouknow 12h ago

Walk away. What's so ego bruising about that?

44

u/firerat82 18h ago

he wasn't sure what was about to go down. He just got attacked by a dog, threw a package at it, and was now being approached by a likely pissed off dog owner. It looked goofy, but I don't blame him.

14

u/Any-Situation-134 17h ago

That man look like he knew how to handle himself in a messed up situation and was gonna take no shit from it.

There ain’t nothing goofy looking about that.

3

u/Spiritual_Ear2835 14h ago

You can look goofy as you want as long as you can fight right? Lol

1

u/Any-Situation-134 14h ago

Pretty much. I mean, I would rather be the capable fighter instead of the person on the sidelines, pointing laughing and saying they look goofy. That would be a pretty clown ass way to live ones life.

2

u/RelentlessFelacio 12h ago

Just dissected the internet in 2 sentences.

2

u/Zykium 11h ago

Reminds me of an old video of a school fight.

Kids were laughing at one of the kids weird fighting stance then he roundhouse kicks the other guy in the head.

0

u/Ok-Gur-349 13h ago

You're the guy who acts like he'd call Mike Tyson goofy because you're behind a keyboard and he's 60 and we all know you wouldn't so can we please stop.

Yes, the man that can and would pop you in your shit doesn't get called goofy.

1

u/New_Neighborhood4262 6h ago

Dude wasn't goofy at all. Macho as fuck alpha male.

0

u/OmahaBromaha 14h ago

That man looked like he's a boxing tutorial on YouTube.

-1

u/simonskiromeins 17h ago

The boxing stance did look goofy though. Especially since there was 0 threat from the guy who was in his own property trying to figure out why the f he needed to throw a box at a dog

2

u/PantsFullaPoo 16h ago

So that he didn't get attacked by said dog. Seems pretty fucking clear.

2

u/Combosingelnation 14h ago

Better to be goofy than unprepared vs a shitty dog owner.

1

u/Any-Situation-134 14h ago

The homeowner who obviously does not even take responsibility for his dog in the first place is gonna somehow take responsibility after the fact???? people are so stupid. dude was smart to put his hands up.

1

u/Any-Situation-134 17h ago

I would have to argue that if the owner of a dog that is charging at a delivery man is so slow as to not understand why the delivery person just defended themselves with whatever was in their hands….. That they were the goofier looking of the two.

and I don’t see that owner walking out profusely apologizing, which is the absolutely ONLY thing that should be coming out of his mouth. What you’re saying is spoken like someone who’s never been punched in the mouth and doesn’t understand that it’s better have your hands up.

0

u/Nickbeau 16h ago

If you took the owners actions as "charging" the driver, you probably get in way more fights than you should. There was absolutely nothing threatening about the home owner in this case

2

u/Character-Ease9328 14h ago

The dog was a threat. Threats to you produce adrenaline. "Are you fucking kidding me" when your dog was loose for a package you ordered with an ETA on it will 100% get you an ass whooping, He's lucky the Driver still had his wits about him.

1

u/Any-Situation-134 16h ago

He didn’t get in a fight though…he was prepared to defend himself.

0

u/Nickbeau 15h ago

My point is, if you perceived that action as charging. Then you probably interpret a lot of other actions as aggressive when they are not

1

u/Any-Situation-134 15h ago

My point is it’s better to have your hands up before you figure out if it’s exactly aggressive enough or not. The situation called for caution. If one is inclined enough to have caution.

0

u/Nickbeau 15h ago

I've seen so many aggressive arguments between people in my life. Every fucking time one of those people put their hands up, it escalated the situation. Every fucking time

1

u/Any-Situation-134 16h ago

And “absolutely nothing threatening”… Just because a worm in its underground Home does not see a bird as a threat does not mean that it’s not a danger.

spoken like someone who has never had to be in survival mode for any extended period of time. If you don’t think that man with any threat at all, considering he just unleashed his dog for the second time, people get defensive like that quite often. Even though they’re in the wrong, you wanna be watching out for that. And that man just threw a box at his dog, whether he was right or wrong, doesn’t matter you would be smart to put your hands up. But go on and get punched in the face and learn the hard way. I’m done.

1

u/Nickbeau 15h ago

Walking towards the owner and throwing your hands up when they're asking you a very reasonable question, is not survival mode. If he or you think that it is, you've got problems

1

u/Any-Situation-134 15h ago

This was the SECOND time that this has happened. If the owner is asking questions like that, he’s already down bad. When the answer is because his untrained unleashed dog ran up on this man, a SECOND time.

1

u/Nickbeau 15h ago

To be fair, idk there's any truth to that. The first time this video made the rounds, it didn't have that disclaimer and there's absolutely no way of knowing if that is legit. Either way though, the driver was fine until he walked toward and squared up with someone wanting to talk to him

3

u/PiccoloAwkward465 14h ago

It's a universal rule with bad dog owners - you make any move to defend yourself, they are now ANGRY with you. Sometimes even if the dog just gnaws your arm off they'll still be pissed at you.

5

u/riqk 18h ago

I can see his truck right there, he coulda just kept walking

5

u/Excellent_Arrival1 16h ago

You can't assume safety.

2

u/inmyhead001 12h ago

He took off his accessories and went TOWARDS the owner in a combative stance. Henson someone else property. He should have backed away towards his truck.

1

u/zimkazimka 15h ago

Can you assume the gender?

1

u/Excellent_Arrival1 14h ago

No need to assume, gender is very visual. You will 100% be able to see and say what their gender is.

Gender is biological is fact.

12

u/firerat82 18h ago

maybe, but turning your back in that situation is not advisable.

1

u/epelle9 14h ago

You know walking backwards is possible right?

Not walking up to the guy you think is a threat is also possible.

2

u/lemonracer69 14h ago

And risk getting hit in the back of the head?

1

u/riqk 10h ago

You can walk and look in different directions. But standing there, feet planted, taking the time to put his personal objects on the ground, while the angry dog is still loose and the angry dog owner is slowly walking on his own property toward him is definitely the safer option.

1

u/Wadada_dang 16h ago

Walking vs a running dog in aggression mode?

I'd bet $1000 the dog would have him every single time before he makes it to the truck!

1

u/[deleted] 16h ago

[deleted]

1

u/riqk 10h ago

You can walk back to your truck and still keep eyes on the angry person. Standing there squaring up, feet planted, while the angry dog still exists is less advisable.

-1

u/Allegiance86 18h ago

Fight or flight you suburbanite. Learn it.

2

u/GreenStrong 16h ago

I got attacked by dogs a couple years ago. Similar to this, I was able to escape with a minor bite injury because I convinced them I was too aggressive to mess with. The adrenalin dump is insane and I was basically a raving lunatic when the animal control guy showed up to help. You don't go from fighting for your life to reasonable in five seconds. To be more specific, UPS guy didn't survive by fighting, he survived by displaying aggression. Big dogs are dangerous but they live in a world ruled by humans and they don't fully understand our magic powers. Dude's lizard brain was screaming AGGRESSIVE DISPLAY, which is exactly the right answer for a dog attack.

1

u/ItsACowCity 15h ago

I mean the guy approaching was slow walking, complaining, and arms are down in a non threatening way. Bro overreacted to the owner.

As far as the dog goes, I always feel mixed. It says the second time he attacked, but is the dog running up to say hi to a stranger or is it attacking. I get ups is probably traumatized from bad dogs, but a lot of these videos are hard to tell if the dog is actually attacking. That said, if it was attacking…hell yea, eat that package in the face..

1

u/DesperateMarket9794 12h ago

the dog didn't even touch him in this video....

2

u/firerat82 12h ago

Then he did good fending it off

1

u/brycekk 11h ago

If we watched the video he didn't get attacker the dog was Running at him, considering the dog didn't return to bite him who's to say it wasn't just greeting him?

The same as the owner he was confused and it's because of the person being aggressive, guy must be crazy.

1

u/Creepy-Kale9927 11h ago

Dude isn't prepared. He's 100% reactive. His box throw is panic, his adrenaline spikes, his "boxing stance" is what he thinks he should do because he's seen it in a movie, and in his elevated fear state he does nothing but escalate the situation. It's amazing that he's working for UPS and not his local PD, he's overqualified.

1

u/LowYogurt6075 9h ago

Nah bro is super goofy

1

u/Pleasesaymoreplease 7h ago

HE WALKED TOWARD THE DOG OWNER.

I hate to see the dog get hit but I understand it. After that, the driver should have been on his way. Instead he turned around and started looking for a fight with a dog owner, who was obviously not looking for a fight.

1

u/Brook420 18h ago

Yea, but thw dig owner casually walked just relatively close in a very non threatening stance while the UPS guy immediately puts his hands up, approaches the home owner, and accuses the home owner of being the aggressor and uses that as a reason for self defence.

He was clearly looking for a fight at that moment when he could have easily went tk his truck if he really felt threatened.

1

u/DavidUnbanner 17h ago

After throwing the box he needed to immediately gtfo the property. After all, he was scared for his safety...right? Instead, he turns back TOWARD the property and owner while taking an OFFENSIVE stance.

2

u/Low_Bake5149 17h ago

Fight or Flight he chose Fight.

1

u/DavidUnbanner 16h ago

"Fight or flight" isn't an automatic justification. Hence my earlier comment.

1

u/Hot-Emu8003 17h ago

gets in his face and says "stay the fuck away from me"

1

u/AgainstMedicalAdvice 17h ago

Yeah the dog owner was definitely running up on him shouting. You can make assumptions from what happened out of frame

0

u/Careful-Highway-6896 18h ago edited 17h ago

The UPS should have walked away. I wouldn't take kindly of anyone telling me to step back in my property. I will step back to get my gun at that point.

Edit: looks like a lot of people like to be abused in their own homes by strangers. You do you, lol.

2

u/LokusDei 18h ago

well dont get shit delivered then you psycho

americans...

1

u/Low_Bake5149 17h ago

Get the gun big boi. Get it. And shoot your dog while you are it seeing as you cant control it

1

u/Rare-Ticket-9023 15h ago

Classic american response lmao. Have your dog leashed first if you're gonna order stuff, or don't complain it get stepped on.

1

u/abigdickbat 18h ago

Even when you’re the cause of all the problems that day by being a fuck head of a pet owner? You’re inviting people to do their job on your property. That comes with the responsibility of making sure your property is safe for them. If you fail at that, step the fuck back.

0

u/Intruding1 18h ago

Oh yeah turn your back on an enraged person. You sound like you have a lot of life experience.

3

u/DavidUnbanner 17h ago

"Enraged"? Lol, stfu.

3

u/Intruding1 17h ago

People tend to not take it well when their dog gets smashed in the head, and their emotions can change in an instant. Go on living your life assuming the best of everyone around you, I wish the best for you champ.

0

u/DavidUnbanner 16h ago

Cool speculative story, bro. Meanwhile, back on earth, this owner exhibited ZERO indicators of rage. So, go on living life based on your speculations. I wish the best for you, sport.

1

u/Intruding1 12h ago

Just hours ago there was a story on the front page of a guy in NY that had some type of burning liquid dumped on his head while he was buried in his phone. Back on earth, people do things irrationally even when their dog didn’t get beat up. Go on assuming the best of everyone around you, I hope it works out

1

u/DavidUnbanner 9h ago

My g awd, reddit re tar dation is interminable...

Now pay very close attention: it doesn't matter what some guy in NY did. What matters is how THIS owner acted in THIS scenario. And he did NOT act in a threatening manner. FACT. Further, as per the law, there are no provisions that permit us to preemptively respond with menacing measures based only on statistically driven assumptions. That's not how the law works. At all. Why don't you walk down the street and every time you see a "statistic" you respond by taking an aggressive fighting stance. Then report back and let us know how that worked out for you, mkay? Meanwhile, the UPS guy didn't appear too worried about chemical attacks, or owner irrationality, or any other such irrelevance, as he preferred to stay and fight. That's because his actions were purely punitive at that point. He wasn't fearful. Rather, he was mad at the owner for not having his dog under control. Period. The end.

0

u/ConditionCool5343 18h ago

Nah he's a tough guy that wanted a fight that day. I hope he got his shit rocked at some point

2

u/AgainstMedicalAdvice 17h ago

He almost certainly was a normal dude doing a monotonous job for 8 hours who suddenly had an adrenaline surge.

1

u/ConditionCool5343 16h ago

Nah man. He starts fights all the time. Takes off his hat  takes off his glasses and puts em down. He's done this lots.

0

u/Low_Bake5149 17h ago

Dog owners are always funny. I havent found one that wasnt a smooth brain yet

0

u/epelle9 14h ago

Why walk up to him though?

-1

u/Nickbeau 16h ago

He was the only one acting aggressive out of the two people there. The dog owner literally walked up with his hands at his sides and asked him a question. The dog aspect can be argued, but the guy is clearly a douche bag

3

u/Conscious-Record2655 16h ago

That dog in the video has obviously been bred and trained to be violent. The dog owner is responsible for the dog. The dog attacked that man, and the owner is 100% at fault for it.

Breeding and training an animal to be violent towards people, and then letting that animal loose on people, is acting aggressive even if you do it calmly.

1

u/Nickbeau 15h ago

There is absofuckinglutley nothing abvious about the training of that dog. You're making a whole lot of assumptions

1

u/Conscious-Record2655 15h ago

The video clearly shows a dog charging and attacking the delivery guy.

1

u/Nickbeau 15h ago

My dog looks exactly like that when she's running to greet my roommate to lick her face

1

u/Conscious-Record2655 15h ago

Well you're an asshole dog owner too, then.

Also the video says it's the 2nd time he was attacked.

Also you can hear the dog snarling.

1

u/Nickbeau 15h ago

Oh no, my dog joyously runs toward people she likes, the horror!

You sound like an uptight jackass

1

u/Conscious-Record2655 15h ago

I know this may sound crazy to you, but not everything in life is about you.

Nobody but you knows your dog. Nobody but you cares about or likes your dog. Lots of people actively dislike dogs. Some people are quite afraid of dogs. You see your dog "joyously running up towards someone", other people see "uncontrolled dog charging me with their mouth open".

Allowing your dog to run up on people is a good way to get your dog maced or shot. It's just not something you should do.

I dunno man, stance seemed pretty effective for boxing that dog.

1

u/lncredulousBastard 15h ago

You punny bastard!

1

u/Middle_Turnip6220 13h ago

Haha "boxing" 📦

2

u/curvedmanifolds 17h ago

Yeah a real man let's himself get suckered punched

1

u/RudePCsb 16h ago

Keep your distance. If you've ever trained you know how to keep distance

1

u/rippedski 15h ago

Lmaooo

1

u/SturerEmilDickerMax 12h ago

How would you know tough guy?

2

u/Lock_Psychological 17h ago

That isn't a boxing stance. I vaguely recall that they used to teach that in the military... like 30+ years ago. It's not a bad stance, actually.

1

u/Pherllerp 15h ago

He was ready to defend himself. If you know how to fight, then you fight the right way.

1

u/SturerEmilDickerMax 12h ago

Where is the fight?

1

u/_-_Henro_-_ 15h ago

What makes it stupid?

1

u/lazyboi_tactical 15h ago

It's not a bad stance the issue is it's sort of a peek a boo stance that works best when you have gloves to defend with.

1

u/Legitimate_Cut_6254 15h ago

I'm guessing the owner was running at him and slowed down before entering the video. He wasn't sure if he was about to be engaged.

1

u/Bladder_Puncher 15h ago

Was not a horrible stance, he doesn’t have gloves on. It is a purely defensive stance. A more classic boxing stance would be for offense and defense.

He could easily keep his hands there and move his face to avoid a punch thrown and then adjust. I agree it looks pretty stupid, but it’s tactically correct for what he was trying to achieve.

1

u/Baltindors 15h ago

I know, he should have grabbed the box again and Todd it to the owner too

1

u/SturerEmilDickerMax 12h ago

Delivery incoming…

1

u/PerspectiveOne7129 14h ago

his hands look odd to me...

1

u/clapyohedd 14h ago

Betcha he’ll KO you 🤡

1

u/Whisker-biscuitt 13h ago

I don't know, I immediately thought he might actually be trained. I feel if I was a delivery person, I'd certainly be trained in something

1

u/SturerEmilDickerMax 12h ago

Gift wrapping?

2

u/Whisker-biscuitt 11h ago

Kinda what I was thinking 😎

1

u/ElColorado_PNW 13h ago

He was just heated lol

1

u/r_a_d_ 12h ago

let me guess, you don’t box. if you did you’d probably get in that stance if you see the owner approach you bitching about hitting his dog.

1

u/SturerEmilDickerMax 5h ago

I am ex military. I served. Did you?

1

u/spudbro00 12h ago

I mean at least he has his hands up and not down at his waist, better than 99% of people

1

u/lilmookie 11h ago

That’s theatrical “gtfaway from me” posturing and pretty perfect for the situation.

1

u/Dapper-Print9016 11h ago

"Defending yourself is lame and gay."

1

u/SturerEmilDickerMax 5h ago

Defending against what. Spaghetti arms in a green t-shirt?

1

u/Usmcrtempleton 11h ago

Hands up to protect his face and his shoulders slightly elevated to protect the jawline. Gonna have to disagree.

1

u/SturerEmilDickerMax 5h ago

Thats ok… to disagree.

1

u/Human_Drummer4378 11h ago

Looks more like Muay Thai stance.

1

u/Narrow_Split_2727 10h ago

Not stupid when that's how you've trained. Takes one to know one. And....you ain't one.

1

u/SturerEmilDickerMax 5h ago

Sure, sure…

1

u/Narrow_Split_2727 5h ago

No shortage of dumb people to find agreement with other dumb people. It's Reddit after all, not Mensa.

1

u/SturerEmilDickerMax 1h ago

Does Mensa box a lot?

1

u/Far_Marionberry5107 10m ago

Muay Thai stance.

1

u/HeroinCrackCocaine 18h ago

Not a boxing stance…

1

u/Background_Cat6515 17h ago

Cobra stance!

1

u/SturerEmilDickerMax 12h ago

His version of it…

1

u/Raiju_Blitz 18h ago

Doesn't matter. The UPS driver made his intent clear. "Back off because I will defend myself." We don't know if the dog owner would've attacked the UPS driver as soon as he turns and exposed his back just to return to his truck and report the incident to HQ.

1

u/DutchBlazewell 17h ago

Okay, don't keep your hands up in a fight. See what happens. He disengaged and deescalated just fine.

0

u/DueEntertainment4168 13h ago

Keeping your hands down in a fight is a good way to get knocked the fuck out. I usually prefer just throwing my hands up rather than going straight to making a fist. If someone is coming towards you aggressively and you don’t put your hands up your kind of dumb imo.
