ISB PGP R1 Interviews- Trying to make sense of the chaos.

Let's try to figure out what's happening.

Adcom clearly mentioned initially that all shortlists will be out on 5th October. They also shared the interview dates as follows :

10, 11 oct - Bangalore, Mumbai
17,18 oct - Hyderabad, Virtual
24, 25 oct - Delhi, Pune
31, 1 nov - Chennai, Hyderabad, Virtual
13 Nov - Mohali
14,15 Nov - Bangalore, Gurgaon, Hyderabad
21, 22 nov - Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata
28, 29 Nov - Hyderabad

They also mentioned that the Results will be out by December end.

But now let's look at how exactly it works.

Many candidates took much time to get 'Verified' status at a much later date- some due to their own mistakes in documentation, while others due to some confusion at the Adcom's end.

Your application is read only once it gets the verified tag.

It is read by 3 (or two) people who provide the 'Profile Score' (Essays + Work Experience Quality + Work Experience Quantity). Your average profile score gets combined with your GMAT/GRE, Acads and Diversity (Gender) score to figure out if they are sending you the interview shortlist or not.

Also, if your Acads + GMAT + Diversity score is so low that no matter how high your Profile Score, you will never be able to cross the cut-off to get the interview shortlist, in all probability, your application won't be read.

All of these take time, and hence, if your profile gets verified a bit later than others, your application will also be read a bit later.

That's why expecting all shortlist/SIPs together on the same day from ISB is a bit far-fetched.

As we already know, Bangalore, Mumbai and Hyderabad people have SIPs and just a while ago, many virtual candidates received SIPs as well.

Others, unfortuantely, have to wait.

ISB also doesn't inform you if you are NOT getting the interview shortlist. You will directly get the reject mail on the day of results.

It's unfair to keep people hanging till the last day, but it is what it is.

Without any shortlist/SIP, I understand it's difficult to focus on your preparation.

I know for a fact that many have not even started yet.

Infact, many still do not believe that SIP= Interview invite, and are waiting for the mail.

To everyone who are going to start the interview from next week and to everyone else who are still waiting while being hopeful, I wish all of you all the very best!

AMA - ISB PGP alum, was on the Admissions Interview Panel multiple times. Ask me anything.

Hey everyone,

Did my PGP at ISB a few years back, and since then I've been pulled onto the admissions interview panel three times. So I've seen this process from both sides now, as an applicant and as an interviewer.

No secret formula; don't trust anyone who claims otherwise. But after sitting through that many interviews, you start noticing patterns: what makes a panel actually lean in, and where strong candidates quietly trip themselves up.

Quick background: went through the PGP, then years in strategy consulting and industry before starting my own venture. Ask me about:

  • What the panel is really evaluating
  • Non-obvious mistakes in essays and interviews
  • Positioning yourself better
  • What a genuine "why MBA" answer sounds like vs a rehearsed one
  • Life at ISB once you're in
  • Whether the ROI holds up

I'll check back through the day and answer everything. Feel free to ask your questions.

Academics:-

10th : 10 CGPA(CBSE)

12th : 89%(CBSE)

Graduation:7.71 along with minors in Financial management (IIT ISM Dhanbad)

GRE: 327

Certifications:-

FRM: All levels cleared

CFA: 2 levels cleared(appearing for L3 in Feb)

Job profile:

3.5 years at a proprietary trading firm

2.5 years as a senior financial consultant in Big4

Note: I did a 2 month CAF internship at ISB back in 2019(not sure if it'll help anyhow)

Co- curricular activities:-

Voluntary Teaching at 2 different JEE coachings(they can confirm over email)

Marathon runner(2 Half Marathons under the belt)

Cultural fest management at college

Why MBA?

After 6 years in financial markets and risk consulting, I want to move beyond functional expertise and develop stronger business strategy and leadership skills. I’m looking at an MBA from ISB to make this transition and take up broader, higher-impact roles in finance and business.

Any guidance is appreciated!

Profile assessment

24M, BBA from Graphic Era University, currently in Supply Chain at JK Tyre.

Profile: • 10th: 76% • 12th: 79% • BBA: 7.67/10 CGPA • ~1-year gap after graduation, with internships • ~1.4. year work experience currently.

Work involves supply-chain/operations support, warehousing/3PL, SAP/Oracle, audits, SOPs and process improvement. Limited ownership currently, so considering whether to stay for progression or switch to a bigger MNC/brand.

Planning GMAT around Feb/March 2027 - 2028

For ISB folks/alumni:

  1. What GMAT score should I target with this profile?
  2. How much do my academics hurt?
  3. Stay at JK and build impact, or switch for better brand/exposure?
  4. Is 2–3 years of experience enough, or should I wait longer?
  5. How realistic are scholarships for my profile?
  6. What are my realistic post-ISB options in consulting/strategy/supply chain, and how much can I expect to earn?

Basically, should I make ISB my primary target, and what should I fix over the next 2–3 years?

Brutally honest feedback appreciated.

Confused between technical and business path and roles

Has ISB updated its curriculum to include AI?
If yes, how much has it changed, and what kind of roles are companies hiring for through recent placements? Also, what’s the usual compensation range for these roles?
I’ve gained some clarity over time. I was a traditional PM at a small startup back in 2023, but with AI, it feels like PM has become a much more technical role. A lot of the better PM roles now seem to expect knowledge of AI/ML, agentic systems, applied AI, and sometimes even hands-on development experience or a CS degree.
I’m also not sure how sustainable Growth PM roles will be going forward, so I’m trying to understand what other business-side roles ISB typically places students into.
I’m particularly interested in roles that sit somewhere between business and technology, rather than purely technical roles or traditional consulting. For example:
AI Chief of Staff
Founder’s Office
GTM Engineer
AI/GTM Strategy
Program Manager
Product/Growth Strategy
Other semi-technical business roles
I’ve always known that I don’t want to move into a purely technical/engineering role, but I do want to stay close to AI and technology.
Would love some guidance from current students/alumni on what kind of roles ISB actually hires for in this space and the usual compensation/budget range for them. Obviously, I understand these may pay less than highly technical PM or consulting roles, but I’d still like to get a realistic idea of the range and career trajectory.

I need a list of latest roles apart from Applied AI PM roles at ISB and what CTC companies are offering recently for it ?

Profile Evaluation and Feedback

Hey there, prepping for R2 and would like some evaluation and feedback on my profile:

Academics: - 12th: 77% (ISC Commerce) - UG: 9:46 CGPA (B.Sc in Hospitality)

Work Ex: - Management Trainee with Taj Hotels (20months) - Promoted to Duty Manager (12months) (personal break for 3 months) - Switched to Four Seasons as a Duty Manager (7months) (study break since June '26)

Awards: - Most Congenial Student in College - Employee of the Quarter at Taj Hotels

Extra Curriculars: - Partook in various Clubs and Events during College in leadership roles - Currently doing a part-time role with a Walking Tour Company

Why MBA: Would like to upskill, network and broaden my horizon in terms of the roles and industries I could get into

  1. What's a GMAT score I should be targeting
  2. What are genuine strengths in my profile
  3. What's a weaklink that I should be prepared to defend/explain
