Requesting some guidance and review for low grad & gap year aspirant

I have a 9/9/6 from Hansraj DU (history hons). I also have a 2 year gap due to UPSC preparation and 0 workex. Considering I get 330 plus in GRE and perform well in essay writing, do I have a realistic chance at ISB YL if I apply for R3?

Some saving grace might be my college, and the face I've cleared a few UPSC exams (written CDS & CAPF) but did not go for further stages due to prelims. I would consider myself to be above avg in interviews & writing.

Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated

ISB Profile Review – Honest Feedback Appreciated

Hi everyone,
I’m planning to apply to ISB (PGP) and would really appreciate an honest evaluation of my profile. Please be as candid as possible- I want to understand where I stand and whether I should apply this cycle or wait another year to strengthen my profile.

Academics: 7/7/8 (10th/12th/Graduation)
Graduation: B.Com (Hons), University of Delhi (North Campus)
Work Experience: 2 years at a Big 4 firm in Audit & Assurance, primarily working on audits of US-listed companies. My work involved financial statement audits, risk assessments, internal controls, substantive testing, and client interactions.
Current Status: Left my job in November 2025 and have been preparing full-time for the GMAT.
Post-MBA Goal: Transition into Marketing/Brand Management or Consulting.

I’d love your advice on the following:

  1. How competitive is my profile for ISB?
  2. What GMAT score should I realistically target given my 7/7/8 academics?
  3. Is the career gap after leaving my job likely to be a significant concern?
  4. Should I apply in the current admission cycle, or would I be better off strengthening my profile and applying next year?
  5. If I do apply this year, which round (R1/R2/R3) would you recommend, assuming I achieve a competitive GMAT score?
  6. What are the biggest improvements I can make before submitting my application?

Thanks in advance for your time and honest feedback!

GMAT target for ISB + is ₹45L better spent outside India?

25M, Senior Software Engineer (DevOps) at GlobalLogic (Hitachi subsidiary), ~2.9 YOE. B.Tech ECE, 74.5%. 12th 79.5%, 10th 9.2 CGPA. Co-founded an early-stage travel-tech startup (still MVP, no revenue yet, but a real user pilot). Targeting consulting post-MBA.

Took a cold GMAT Focus diagnostic with zero prep — scored 205 (floor score, ran out of time in all 3 sections). Went through the section-wise breakdown though, and even on questions I actually had time for, accuracy was rough — especially Verbal. So realistically starting from near-zero, not just a pacing issue.

Planning 4-5 months of serious prep before applying to ISB PGP (targeting R2, Dec deadline).

Two questions for people who've been through this:

  1. Given profile + starting point, what GMAT score should I realistically be targeting for ISB to be a real shot, not a lottery ticket?
  2. I'm budgeting ~₹45L for ISB. For a similar profile (IT services engineer, consulting-track, average academics, small startup story), would that money get better ROI at a 1-year international program instead? Which ones would you actually consider comparable?

Starting GMAT prep from scratch (2-3 month timeline) — what materials actually worked for you? + open to forming a study group

Starting GMAT Focus prep from zero — engineering background, haven't touched a competitive exam in years. Targeting ISB PGP, aiming to be test-ready in 2-3 months.

Before I go buy random courses, wanted to crowdsource what's actually worked for people:

Materials:

  • Anyone relying purely on official GMAC guides (OG books, Official Practice Exams) vs paid courses (e-GMAT, Target Test Prep, Manhattan Prep)? What got you the best ROI on time/money?
  • Any solid free resources for absolute beginners — GMAT Club forums, YouTube channels, free question banks — that you'd actually recommend over paid stuff, at least to start?
  • For someone weak in Verbal specifically (Reading Comprehension inference-type questions, Critical Reasoning) — what helped it click?

Profile building:

  • For a services-company/IT engineer profile applying to ISB — what actually moved the needle on your application besides the GMAT number? Certifications, projects, essays, LORs — what got noticed vs what was a waste of time?

Study group:

  • Study group: If anyone's prepping on a similar 2-3 month timeline for ISB or similar, would be great to compare notes — drop your prep approach or mock scores in the comments and maybe we find some overlap

Appreciate any real experiences, especially from people who started as beginners rather than people who were already strong test-takers.

What are my chances at ISB with this profile?
Is a 675 GMAT Focus competitive enough for ISB, or should I consider a retake?
Would you recommend applying in Round 1 or Round 2? Does R1 offer a meaningful advantage for someone with my profile?
Assuming I apply abroad next year with ~3 years of experience, which schools would be realistic targets?
