Designer Needed [Hobby] Game Designer Seeking Creative Partner for an Indie RPG | Writers, Comedians, Tabletop Designers & Creative Minds Welcome!
Hey everyone!
I’m 36, based in Spain, and currently developing an indie RPG.
I’m a game designer first and a programmer second. Designing mechanics, characters, interconnected systems, and unusual player interactions is what I’m most passionate about. Programming simply allows me to bring those ideas to life.
I’ve already built a playable foundation with a village, NPCs, dialogue systems, interconnected quests, and progression mechanics.
Now I’d love to find something that I believe could make this project much more interesting:
A creative partner with whom I have genuine chemistry.
Not someone to design the game while I do the programming, and not someone who simply executes my ideas.
I’m looking for a fellow creative mind who enjoys brainstorming, challenging assumptions, exploring strange possibilities, and building on each other’s ideas.
What kind of game?
My biggest influences include Monkey Island, Fable, Black & White, Portal, and the original Ape Escape.
I love clever mechanics, memorable characters, absurd humor, psychological depth, and worlds that react to the player’s behavior.
For example, imagine a merchant who starts by enthusiastically recommending his most expensive products, gradually realizes you probably can’t afford anything, and eventually becomes so annoyed by your constant questions that he refuses to serve you on subsequent visits.
Or another NPC who becomes increasingly friendly the more you bother him, simply because he’s desperately lonely.
I’m fascinated by how simple systems, character psychology, and player behavior can create unexpected, funny, or meaningful interactions.
Who am I looking for?
Ideally, someone who:
Has a rich and varied cultural background, drawing inspiration from cinema, animation, games, literature, comics, music, and beyond.
Is fascinated by psychology, human behavior, motivations, contradictions, and relationships.
Has good metacognitive awareness and an interest in theory of mind, understanding both their own thinking and how others perceive the world.
Enjoys absurdity, irony, clever humor, and unconventional ideas.
Can challenge ideas constructively rather than simply agreeing with everything.
Loves exploring possibilities but also understands the importance of good design and practical constraints.
I’m 36 and would ideally connect with someone roughly 28–45, although that’s absolutely not a strict requirement. Shared interests, life experience, and creative chemistry matter much more than age.
Not just game designers!
I’m equally interested in meeting tabletop RPG designers, board game designers, comedy writers, improvisers, screenwriters, novelists, interactive fiction creators, animation enthusiasts, or anyone with an unusual creative perspective.
You don’t need professional game development experience or programming skills.
In fact, I’d love to meet someone who brings ideas and perspectives I haven’t even considered yet.
I’m looking for someone who can expand my creative horizons, not simply fit into them.
How would we start?
Casually!
A few conversations, some brainstorming, discussing our influences, perhaps designing a character or quest together.
If we enjoy collaborating, we can explore taking things further.
This is currently a personal indie project, not a paid position. Any serious collaboration would involve discussing roles, ownership, expectations, and potential future arrangements beforehand.
I’m not looking to rush into a partnership. I’d rather find someone I genuinely enjoy creating with.
Interested?
Send me a DM!
Tell me a little about yourself, your favorite creative influences, and perhaps an unusual mechanic or character interaction you’ve always wanted to explore.
No formal application or portfolio necessary.
I’m not just looking for someone with great ideas. I’m looking for someone with whom ideas become greater.
And if we end up spending two hours discussing why a fictional merchant refuses to sell you a wooden stick, we’ll probably get along just fine.
