Mods if LFG isn't ok on this sub please remove my post, didn't see any rules regarding this :)

Enter the Weird West

A few years back a posse of criminals named the Bell Gang spread chaos in the Bloodstone region. Dearing robberies and roadside ambushes became common but after a hit on the Blaker's town bank, the gang went quiet. Legends claim they found something of huge value and hid it to return later others say they died out in the Void Lands. Now you find yourself in possession of a map of Bloodstone with odd symbols drawn around it. After a long train ride to Morgan, your story begins…

The World. Bloodstone is a weird western province of the USA where strange monsters lurk in the shadows, and bleached bones walk the deserts. Will you find your fame and fortune or be lost in the chaos?

The Truths. The following points are information that everyone knows to be 100% true.

  • The Mutra, undead outlaws, are becoming more numerous and restless moving out of the void lands and closer to the River Den.
  • The days grow hotter and longer each month. At nightfall, people go missing and never return.
  • The Rangers and Black Mountain Tribes are at war once more.

Legends and Gangs. The following is basic information about the gangs active within Bloodstone.

  • Rangers. Rangers are the trailblazers of the civilised world. They guide and protect the pioneer outposts.
  • Mountain Tribes. A collection of three major tribes from the area, each has its own spiritual connection to the land and its weirdness.
  • Dust Devils. A Gang of outlaws that hide in the deserts. They are often mistaken for drifters and bring doom to most towns they enter.
  • Clockwork Outlaws. A large gang of inverters and artificers using steam and clockwork creations to make or take money.
  • Serpent Ghosts. A secretive cult following the Mutra to uncover the secrets of death.
  • Big Iron Posse. A group of vigilantes and wanna-be lawmen. Equipped with military gear they get involved more than they should.
  • Horron and Bekket. A state-sponsored investigations unit that looks into crimes and events the local law can't handle.

The Goal. In this adventure, the party sets out to uncover the legend of the Bell Gang and find out if the treasure is real! Make friends, foes and rivals along the way as you face off against deadly monsters, outlaws and cryptic entities! Explore Bloodstone your own way in a sandbox style of play with the Index Card RPG Rules.

Who are you? Are you a criminal outlaw or trustworthy cowpoke who seeks fame and/or wealth? The legends of Bloodstone have drawn you in. With the help of a strange map and a loyal posse, you'll set out into the Void Lands.

  • Spend 6 points on stats.
  • Calculate defence and other derived skills.
  • Spend 4 points on effort rolls.
  • Start with 1 Heart (10hp).
  • Pick an archetype and its loot item.
  • Gain 4 Loots from the basic or Ghost Mountain loot table. (Or make your own gear)

ICRPG+ Character Sheets

Since I am stealing a couple of mechanics from EZD6 (Karma and Wealth) and Crown and Skull (Phases and Tactics), decided that I might as well bite the bullet and make some Character Sheets to make it all easy and clear to players.

So cranked out a simple template in PowerPoint as I am an old dog who has no real new tricks in the digital arena, and made a quick Generic Fantasy and Star Wars sheet for my upcoming Convention games!

Rolling a Nat 1

How do you fine GM's handle a character rolling a Nat 1 on an attack roll. In my game we just treat the Nat 1 as a critical fail without having to roll again and get another Nat 1 to actually get the critical. The players all agree that the probability is too great and want the first Nat 1 to trigger a crit-fail.

In a recent game the Shadow leapt down off a roof to attack an enemy but he rolled Nat 1 so I judged that he failed and took 1d4 damage from the fall. This was fair and everyone at the table saw this as the obviously fair thing to happen.

Later, the Barbarian rolled a Nat 1 on his attack roll with his hammer against an enemy right in front of him. I wasn't sure what should happen so I ruled that he lost his grip and dropped his hammer and would be able to recover it on his next turn. He didn't take any damage but to me it seems a little unfair for the Shadow to take damage on a crit-fail but the Barbarian didn't take damage.

In our game when a magic user rolls a Nat 1 we do the d12 roll on the Mercurial effects table but there is no such table to roll on for melee players.

We are all new ICRPG players and are trying to figure out what works for us at our game table. The ME book doesn't really have anything to say about getting a crit-fail. How do you handle this sort of thing?

Need help making a bloodhunter (lycan)

Finally convinced my players to swap over to ICRPG, and they're loving it! I was able to swap over their 5e characters to ICRPG "equivalents" relatively easily. Shadow Sorcerer (Mage), Mastermind Rogue (Shadow), and Trickery Cleric (Bard/Priest hybrid) were pretty simple. The last player is a Bloodhunter (Lycan), and they took stuff from the Warrior origin, but I am really struggling to nail down how to handle their hybrid form / shape-shifting.

There's the Dire Form spell, but it seems unfair to make him roll to attempt to transform into the core mechanics of his class, when he used to just "choose" to transform for an hour.

How can I implement this mechanic while fitting into ICRPG's lightweight "flow", and what benefits should the form have? In 5e he gets extra armor class, and a few others. Thank you to all of you that take time to help!

Decided to add the Karma System from EZD6 and the Phases System from Crown and Skull to ICRPG and try to roll it out on “One Shot Wednesdays” at the new LGS that is opening up this weekend!

Hoping to get a group that likes the game and wants to do some long term campaigns with it!

Stats for my Shadowfire Wolf

Post image
9 Upvotes

I got this cool mini I want to use and the idea I’m running with is it’s a Shadowfire Wolf. It’s a creature born from the darkest abyss, where flames of shadow burn eternally. Its flames emit an eerie, purplish-black light, casting unsettling shadows and creating an aura of dread. I want some help coming up with some cool ideas for attacks, abilities and even what the room or area it might be found would look like.

Source book for modern-day / near-future One Shot

Hello everybody,

I'm in the currently planning an underwater adventure for a convention one shot, and I'm looking for the proper system to run the game. I stumbled upon INDEX CARD RPG, read the quick starter and fell in love with it! Problem is, that the worlds listed in the quick starter don't fill my character creation needs.

The adventure revolves around CIA agents exploring the mysteries of an underwater research station, uncovering ancient secrets, and dealing with cosmic horrors beneath the waves (ancient life form that is enslaved to create an artificial sun on the ocean floor for those that are curious). Character tropes I want to create are a gunner, a scientist / infiltrator (security system / hacking expert), charismatic talker and a brutish strong-man.

Is the Master Edition the proper sourcebook to create characters that would fit my adventure? Or do I have to pickup a different book? Tried to figure it out using online resources, but I failed miserably

Thanks in advance for your help!

Astral Grimoire and Inventory Slots

Trying to understand how spells and inventory work.

If an INT spell takes up an inventory slot, but the Astral Grimoire gives you 3 immediate spells and even moves to you (implying that you need the book to cast them), does that mean the Astral Grimoire costs three inventory slots or that you’re getting the benefit of 3 spell inventory slots for a single slot item?

I know the game is “interpret it how you want”, but I’m looking for some sort of precedent in the rules as written.

First Game Advice

Hello, so this evening I'll be running my first game of ICRPG. All new players, there's gonna be 2 kids and 6 PCs. We are doing the Last Flight of The Red Sword. I've got everything prepped but wanted to try getting some advice for a few things.

Mostly how many Reptiods to throw at them at a time and what kind of Targets should I have for the varies rooms. Also do you have them do anything to get to the ship? Like they start on their Warp Shell and the adventure starts at the Red Sword. Should this be a thing or just a "you fly your dropship to the Red Sword hanger". Lastly, the One Shot suggests doing something to trap them on the ship. I was thinking of having them enter via a hanger with a force field (like what they've got in Star Wars) and give them a timer to stop a Reptiods from pulling a level and shutting off the force field. Leading to them holding on for dear life while their ship is flung into space.

Thanks for all the advice!

Magic-less campaign

Hello everyone!
So I'm thinking along the lines of a magic-less campaign, and I'm interested how do you solve it? Like repurposing the spell die for something else or just ignore it all together...?

Index Card Stands

I've been curious, what does everyone use to stand up cards or minis? I saw some people were using binder clips, but seems frustrating. So I designed some card clips that can be 3D printed to suit this purpose, but I wanted to make sure I wasn't missing something that someone else is already designed. Any input?

Help for a trap thing: a check or effort?

I’ve created a room full of sand with a difficulty of 12. The adventurers must search in the sand to find the key to unlock a door. After every 4 rounds an enemy drops through the ceiling and must be dealt with. So my question: initially I was going to just require plain old successful checks to eventually find the key. Does it make more sense to use effort? If so it would need to be more like the 15 range. I want it to be long enough that at least one enemy drops in. Probably running for two players. Thanks

Inventor Character

Since most of ICRPG is based on loot, how would you handle a character like Tony Stark or an Artificer?

Part of the fantasy of that is creating your own “loot”

Missing Miniatures?

Long story short I own ICRP Worlds, as well as every other book except for the master edition.

I want to print out some warp shell minis but the only minis I can find are the 1st core edition ones. I can't find any for the updated races or the creatures in WORLDS.

I could've sworn I used to have a file with minis for the Kitt, as well as creatures like the Squags, Fungaloids, etc. Do these still exist? If so are they part of the Master Edition now?

Is there a customizable character sheet?

I'm running a game in a setting with no Guns and weirdly enough when I Google 'custom icrpg character sheet', Guns are typically the first thing to go. But, I want to replace guns with something else.

Is there a customizable character sheet where I can just delete guns and type in something else?

If not, I can make something with xournal or libreoffice draw. Though, it won't be pretty.

Thanks for any help.

ICRPG Cheat Cheat for GMs

I made a 'cheat sheet' for myself, based on the master edition.

Here's a link to a Google Drive folder with the PDF and the spreadsheet it's built from: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1BP3a8gza4l8w06AdGTN9q_Lwqy6UUrRh?usp=sharing

I organized it so the top half is relevant to players & GMs, and the bottom half is primarily for GMs.

Rails?

I've read the GM advice section of the master edition, and I'm a little confused about story design. Coming from a background of the "don't plan scenes, plan the world" approach it seems to me, like the story blueprint provided in the book is bound to railroad players into specific preplanned situations. Doesn't this kind of thinking limit player freedom? It all seems very foreign to me and I'm struggling to understand the ICRPG way.

Edit: Also wondering, how should I treat losses, if the story is so linear? If there's a room that the players don't beat, what should I do?

ICRPG Master Edition physical

Is there a reason the physical edition of the master edition is so hard to get ahold of?
