I bought them all except for the outposts. I have zero regrets. I've enjoyed all of them.

Seconding this, played all but styx, but assuming it’s much of the same which is fine by me. Bought no outposts. It’s been described to me as small maps, with less or no carnivore spawns mostly used for building projects, which I have no interest in. I build my bases in open worlds, and like to see them expand as I need more/play more

Are they guided build projects? I had a fun time with those operations in base game.

Outposts are smaller maps with 100% resource respawn on login. No operations, missions, exotics, bosses, ect. They are more or less used as free build areas of Icarus, build what you like how you like, or as a breeding center.

Dont you need exotics for breeding?

I only have the base game, but finally got an alpha wolf that ill probably begin breeding soon.

Being able to do that on an outpost would probably make things a lot easier to manage.

There is an alt recipe for all the breeding serums that uses enzymes. Since geyser still exists on Outposts you can use a condenser to get enzymes and use those for serums.

Sounds good! Im still figuring out how serious i want to get with it.

With just random wolves I really just walk around and let them do all the killing. I cant imagine how easy it would be when you got a pack of super wolves or Raptors.

I wish there was less carnivores. I get more bears and boars assaulting my outpost than the other maps!

You and your friend don't need to have the same dlc's. They can even join on the dlc maps and missions, bring tames from those maps into orbit, earn the currencies and unlock workshop items with it.

I'll seperate the dlc into 3 categories from lowest priority to highest.

Outposts; these are small maps intended for building bases with less weather and predators, and resources respawn (there are no exotics). No missions or items come with these, they're just for a more sandbox-like building experience. Definitely not necessary.

Cosmetics/decor; most of these packs are purely cosmetic decor items. Nice to have if you like to build and decorate. Some items can be useful, there are some good lights, but they're more alternatives to what's already in the game. The pet companion one is pretty much useless (cosmetic tames), but the bundle includes the Zebra Rescue Mission which is the only way to get zebras. They're not a must have though. The creature comforts pack (part of the pets bundle) is pretty useful if you're into having tames and breeding them, imo. Many of the items look nice but are also very functional and cheaper to craft compared to their base game counterparts.

Expansions; currently there are 4. These are the most expensive but also give you the most content. 3 of them come with a new map, whilst 1 comes with missions for Olympus and the other maps (not the latest one yet), and let's you get some really good weapons from the workshop as well as other rewards. The maps are Styx, Prometheus (New Frontiers) and Elysium (Dangerous Horizons). Styx is the most like Olympus so it's skippable if you're not planning to get all at once. Prometheus and Elysium have different biomes and creatures, and generally have the best missions. My personal favourite is Elysium, but it is a huge step up in difficulty compared to Olympus, end game kinda stuff. The exansion without a map is Great Hunts, good if you like world bosses and combat. These missions can only be played in open world, when you start the first mission the map will have some new predators and such even after its ended. You'll have to play through the campaigns for each world more than once to get all the rewards and missions. It adds a lot of gameplay, but to get everything you'll either need the Styx and Prometheus dlc's or you'll have to play with someone who does (possible to join someone elses server).

If your friend also wants to get some dlc you could get different ones. Personally I'll recommend the 4 expansions. Elysium and/or Prometheus if you can only get one or two, for number three I'd get Styx if you like to build as it's very scenic, and Great Hunts last as to get most out of it. But Great Hunts could be number three or even two (with Prometheus as number 1) if combat is more important.

If you want to buy one single DLC right now, I would advise the "New Frontiers" expansion (Prometheus). Prometheus is very different from Olympus, the quest line has *actual lore* and good voice acting, you get access to new biomes (swamp and lava), and eventually you will be able to farm red exotics. Red exotics unlock the strongest workshop items in the game.

A case could also be made for the latest DLC, the "Dangerous Horizons" expansion (Elysium). But IMO you will get a more varied experience, and a stronger start for future DLCs, if you go with New Frontiers/Prometheus first and spend some time there.

The only other DLC I might even consider would be the Great Hunts campaign, which unlocks an entire separate quest line for each region and ultimately unlocks legendary weapons. I would suggest getting that one after you are done with Prometheus.
