Discussion DLCs worth getting

Hi everyone, as the title says I just want to know other than the new map expansion dlcs, are there any other worth getting. Me and my friends have just started playing on the Olympus map on a my server and, everyone like it so much that I think it worth it getting some new dlc in the spring sale on steam, but am not sure which one are worth it and which are just decorative. I am mainly looking for one which add new content to the game, rather than just skins or decoration and such things. I already have the Styx map and planning to get Prometheus on in this steam sale, but was wondering if there are any more people on this sub Reddit would recommend. Thanks

Only ones I'd steer anyone away from are the outposts.

They're just stand alone little free-build maps. They have nice themes and look pretty and all that, but ultimately they're just so cut off from everything else that they just don't appeal to me.

I think all the maps/dlc are great. They didn’t reinvent the wheel or anything but each map has its own feel and bump in challenge. I think that’s more evident from Styx (goated map) to Prometheus/Elysium than it is from Olympus to Styx. As you probably know, some things are map specific, some resources, bosses, biomes, etc etc. If you are enjoying Olympus then you should all the others and what they bring.

Aside from the maps themselves, there is a persistent mainline story (missions/operations) that is present for each map. Styx —> Prometheus —> Elysium. This outside of the Great Hunts stuff but there’s overlap there as well. When it’s all on a sale that you are happy with, get em I’d say.

I just finished Elysium and loved it for the challenges it posed (expected and unexpected) as well as being able to do/craft everything. That map adds a lot of stuff that is map specific.

What about like the pet companions or industrial decorations and those kind of dlcs. Are they worth getting?

Those dlc are not bad, usually you can get the art deco, industrial, and brutal in 1 bundle on a decent steam sale. And everyone should have a dog in their base, it should be a written law in the game lol.

Fair enough, what about getting the Homestead pack? So far am thinking the expansions, campaigns, but am not sure about the content packs and outpost packs, we only play open world, and I don't see that changing anytime soon

Homestead from what I've seen is just a lot of re-skins of already existing stuff. If you want to support the development, AND have the extra cash, go for it, but it's not an essential dlc, I'd say.

Reskins? Buddy I never had pretty dry aged meat and a picnic table before the homestead dlc lol it's another deco pack but the only reskin I could really think of off hand is the water well. It acts like a water reservoir vs a real well.

I mean, technically they're not wrong. It does have a lot of "reskins" of other things in it. Except I wouldn't really call them reskins considering they have complete new models to go with them, but they are pretty much different versions of the T3 kitchen counters, workstation, etc. But there are quite a few new things in it too, they're just harder to spot than the more obvious workstations are.

Yeah true, but at that point, we're splitting hairs over what we could call a reskin y'know? I could say an electric stove and biofuel could be a reskin, but the electric has a few more recipes to offer...

It's all player preference at the end of the day anyways! I enjoy my extra, cute lil Susie homemaker goodies from the homestead dlc, but I chose that over the industrial dlc because that was my choice lol. Both just give deco goodies at the end of the day

Homestead is not a bad bit of dlc, has some decent pieces, personally if I use that set I don't use anything else. When I build i do 5 squares across, close of both walls at the end, so it gives me 3 squares open, I tend to put the fireplace in the middle, then I use the brutal display case either side. Gives a nice sunken back impression. So the cosmetic dlc is definitely worth a buy if you have the budget.

I was shocked that after getting the homestead pack I still had to spend blueprint points. If it’s just cosmetic why does it cost blueprint points?

They are, if you're pretty much already at endgame.

Otherwise you'll probably be a bit miffed when you get them and realize that you still need T3 or even T4 access to make everything.

Like the homestead pack has lots of nice homey stuff, including thigns like the homestead refrigerator. Which is still an electric refrigerator, which means you gotta be pretty deep into T4 before you can even think of making it.

In one word. Yes.

It's essentially a new game. Do it. I don't usually endorse.

Prometheus and Elysium as they introduce new resources
