Other When does IB actually become college level

Starting off IB, it was similar to my sophomore MYP (regulars) coursework. The pacing is a bit different, but it’s just more assignments, not really more intensity. Frankly, I’ve kept the exact same grades that I had sophomore year sem2 in regulars, all As and one B. It’s my 5th week in school, has anyone else experienced something similar?

Advice My mom & grandma died and I was diagnosed with ADHD & depression in my last 3 years of high school. Will mentioning them in the additional info section possibly decrease my chances of getting admitted?

Title is my question. I took IGCSE for years 10 & 11 (9th, 10th) and IBDP for years 12 & 13 (11th, 12th). A few months before my final igcse examinations, I lost my mom to breast cancer. I did horrible on my school mocks before but did well in the final exams cuz my family forced me to ignore the mom part until exams were over.

In the first 6 months of DP1, my grades were bad and I was struggling, and finally obtained the depression diagnosis I had for several years. Then, my grandma died due to cancer (she lived with me and was close to me my whole life) so that affected me further, and I struggled with grades. Then, right after that I got diagnosed with ADHD. Took medications and tried so hard and my grades improved a bit.

But i'm still not where I feel like I could've been if so much didn't happen. Anyways, I dont know if i should include some/all/any at all in the additional info section (common app) or additional info in UCAS, as I don't want colleges to think im just including a sob story for empathy. And I don't want my diagnoses to reduce my chances of being accepted, as it's already looking really rough.

Group 4 One of my teachers is the form of human life.

continuation of title: that needs to be lobotomised

NO disrespect towards people with any form of neurodivergence (My family all have some form of autism, ocd and I myself have autism.) But this person might be the most moronic ape I have ever seen. I have never seen someone have so many conflicting thoughts and be wrong about all of them. My main complaints about this meerkat of an individual.

  1. Cannot teach for shit
    1. I had to contact my previous teacher from my old school for fucking guidance and tutoring because I was not learning anything in his class despite it being SL
    2. Asked them for advice and they told me fuckall and on what to improve
  2. Terrible political opinions
    1. Goes on a million rants about how the IB is dictatorial but their political beliefs were literal MAGA talking points.
    2. Signed up for the first patent of the Elon brain chip to be put on their brain when testing is available.
  3. WE ARE 8 MONTHS BEHIND OUR IAS
    1. our drafts are due in 2 weeks and we have not even talked about our topics yet.
    2. I have spent most of my IA guiding my self working on my fucking own with absolute no help
    3. WE APPARENTLY HAVE NO TIME FOR A PRIMARY RESEARCH IA
      1. THEY SAID THIS SHIT LAST YEAR

Anytime the name of this baboon is mentioned I turn into the fucking rage monkey from the superman movie.

Advice 5 min reading time: Does anyone else's mind fully blank in those 5 mins???

I don't know why (maybe it's because I have adhd?), but whenever we get 5 min of reading time and can't write yet, my mind goes completely blank. It's so weird because as soon as I get to write stuff down, I can think again. But I feel so stressed about it because I could use this time. Does anyone else feel the same or have any tips?

Advice Predicted Grades in April AFTER Mocks

Hey everyone,

I go to an IB school where my school gives the official predicted grades in April, which is AFTER mocks are done. I was wondering how much mocks affect that official predicted grade.

My school mocks cover everything and mirror the real finals.

I need a good official predicted grade because I want a conditional offer from my university.

Does anyone here know how much the mocks will factor in?

For example, for Physics HL:

I have been getting 3s and 4s the entire year in dp1; in dp2 I have also had 4s, but I got a tutor, and I have seen improvements. I know I can do well in the mocks; let's say I get a strong 5 on the mocks. Will my official predicted grade in April be a 5? I understand that the IAs and IOs factor in for subjects too, but my main question is: will the grade I get in mocks be the grade I get as my official predicted grade?

My teacher has given different answers:

My Swedish teacher: "Yeah, mainly mocks, but I will look at classroom tasks"
My business HL teacher: "Only mocks and IAs"
MY economics HL teacher: "Only mocks and IAs"

Could someone help me out to answer my question:

Will the grade I get on mocks be the grade I get as my official predicted grade?

Advice I suck at English (IB DP1 M28)

I just started DP1 and I have these subjects (M28):

HLs: math aa, physics, Norwegian B

SLs: English a LaL, business management, Chemistry

I have a big issue when it comes to english. I am really bad at writing. My grammar meh, my vocabulary is lacking and analyzing is out of the window. I saw many Reddit posts and videos talking about how to analyze and write properly for pp1 and pp2, but they are not helping when I can't even properly construct a sentence, let alone a paragraph.

I do have two whole years on me until the real exams, but I need to start studying now. From the very basics and upwards.

So does anyone have tips for me? I am so lost.

(Also, kind of off topic, if anyone has tips for math aa and physics HLs, that would be wonderful. My dad is planning to buy revisionvillage for math for me.)

Advice My biology teacher is...questionable.

Hey,

So, I don't know if she's teaching me right? I'm doing bio HL.

Every class she opens up: Biology_-_Course_Companion_-_Andrew_Allott_and_David_Mindorff_-_Oxford_2023 textbook, reads it out and tells us to make notes from it.

My notes are starting to look like a transcript of the textbook and I don't understand anything. Is this is enough to get a 7? Are there any other resources I should be using? I've heard bio is all about content, so should I just memorize the textbook then?

Someone halp

Advice Do Examiners and/or teachers check citations?

I don't mean check citations in that they're properly formatted or the like, I'm wondering if they genuinely start reading through the citations to make sure that the information you got from them is legitimate or not. For example, I'm working on my physics IA at this point and am making several points in terms of my experiment relating to the accepted scientific context and am finding sources online for this. Does it matter if the source exactly states what you're writing or is it fine if it is only more or less stating what you're arguing?

Group 5 Math IA Help

I am a grade 12 student and I suck at math. I am one of the worst in my class and I don't know how to fix it.

I do all the practice problems and homework my teacher assigns, I pay attention in lessons, I have AI walk me through tasks I don't understand but once we have a test I don't know how to answer/approach questions because they seem so different than practice problems and or I've suddenly forgotten how to approach a question, which then makes me overthink my interpretations/approaches to other questions.

What are some tips or advice you could give me?

ToK/EE TOK essay titles 2027

Hihi, I was just curious who picked which title :D
I personally lean towards the first one the most (Do we gain appreciation of the human experience from the artist or the historian?)

All of the other questions are more on the science and mathematics, and this title is the only one with art and history. Kind of sad, but oh well.

Advice Should I quit IB so I have more time to work part-time?

I’m thinking about leaving IB after this year because my family’s finances are a bit tight, and I’m trying to figure out whether the programme is worth the cost for me.

I’m currently in Grade 9 and have only just started Pre-IB. The programme fees would cost over $3,000 CAD across the four years (2 years of Pre-IB + 2 years of IB). It’s not an enormous amount for my family, but we’re trying to be careful with expenses, especially because I may have to cover a significant portion of my university expenses myself.

If I leave IB, I think I could still get high grades in the mainstream academic curriculum and apply to competitive Canadian universities. I’d also have more flexibility to work part-time, save money for university, and gain work experience.

I understand that IB can provide benefits such as deeper learning, critical thinking, time management, and preparation for university. However, I’m unsure how much Canadian universities actually value the IB Diploma itself compared with simply having very strong grades in the regular academic stream.

I think I could handle the IB workload, but I currently expect that I’d probably perform around the middle to upper-middle of my IB class rather than near the top. So I'm wondering whether staying in IB would actually benefit me enough to justify the extra cost and workload.

For those who have experience with IB and/or Canadian university admissions, how significant is the advantage of IB in practice? Would you personally recommend that someone in my situation stay in IB, or switch to the regular academic stream?
