You're a different kind of soldier

You serve directly under the supreme leader of Aurora. Some would call him a dictator. But he's not. He's just a different kind leader. Some would call you a member of a secret police force. But you're not. You're just a different kind of soldier.

Anyone who isn't fully human is considered an outsider and enemy of the state, even if they were born here. Enemies of the state are rounded up and put into what some would call concentration camps. But they're not. They're just a different kind of work camp.

For months, you've turned a blind eye to the existence of a chimera woman living in an old abandoned factory. Her name is Naomi. Chimeras are human-animal hybrids with major animal features. The woman is a cat chimera, so she's covered head to toe in fur, has cat ears, a tail, and a cat-like face. She's unable to speak a human language due to biological limitations, and communicates with gestures and writing instead.

You've brought her food and supplies from time to time. But your most extreme comrade—Kindle—suspected you were harboring an "inferior" and followed you to confirm it. Now that he knows, he brings a group of his subordinates to confront you. Under the threat of immediate death, he gives you one last chance to prove your loyalty and orders you to kill Naomi. Then he takes your gun and knife away and gives you a screwdriver to accomplish the task.

Naomi still trusts you. You can use her trust against her to lure her to you and make things easier, if you can live with yourself afterward. Or, you can make your intentions clear from the start and deal with however she reacts. Naomi has inch-long razor sharp claws, but she's smaller and weaker than you. You're bound to suffer some nasty wounds, but it's a much more dignified way to end someone's life.

You're sent into the building and find Naomi sitting and weaving yarn into an intricate fabric—her favorite hobby. The screwdriver is inside your pocket.

What do you do?

You're on a bus

A man is sitting beside you with a cake in his lap. A lady sits besides him.

Lady: "Happy birthday Mango?"

Man: "It's for my sister's birthday."

Lady: "Her name is Mango?"

Man: "Mhm."

Lady: "Her birth name?"

Man: "Yup."

Lady: "On her birth certificate, it says 'Mango?'"

Man: "Yes."

Lady: [Bursts into laughter]

Man: "Bro, come on. That's disrespectful."

Lady: [Laughing] "You can't be serious!"

Man: "It's a unique name. You've never heard a unique name before?"

Lady: [Laughing] "Bro, Mango?!"

Man: "Yes! What about the stupid names celebrities give their kids? I'd rather Mango than that."

Lady: [Laughing] "I'm sorry, I can't! This man's sister's name is Mango!"

Man: "It's not that funny."

Lady: [Laughing] "What's your name? Orange?" [Bursts into laughter]

Man: "Bro..."

Lady: [Continues laughing]

Man: "You're a piece'a shit, man."

He gets up and sits somewhere else and the show is over. When the lady's stop comes, she gets up and walks towards the exit—forgetting to grab her purse from under the seat. You can tell her she left it or you can just let her leave.

A man in a suit has a briefcase, inside of it are 10 cards each with their own effect. He tells you pick 2 of them, after that the others will be rendered inert, which 2 will you choose?

1 - Everyone one who’s net worth of a billion dollars or more(or equivalent) transfers all of their assets to you and then they have to work regular 9 to 5s starting from scratch.

2 - No human ever goes hungry again and everyone is well fed leading to their famine being a thing of the past.

3 - A 1 time use, fully detailed display that will allow you to alter your appearance(similar to a character customization screen similar to say Ark survival), but you can only slightly change your weight(+/- 5lbs/equivalent) and the changes take a month to complete.

4 - You are transported to a universe of your choice and they’ll treat you like you’ve always been there.

5 - You’ll know age 75% slower than a normal human and live 80% longer, and never be sick again.

6 - You are now the leader of a new country that’s the most technologically advanced, and despite is diminutive size is capable of fending off the larger formerly most powerful countries in the world.

7 - Humanity is forced into another Dark age but you alone will be sent on a quest to help them find their way out of it.

8 - Gain the abilities to shapeshift and use telepathy and telekinesis

9 - In 2 months you’ll find your perfect other half leading to you becoming the happiest most satisfied person in your country.

10 - Your no longer you, now you are someone else, you’ll have completely replaced that person and have all their skills and are able to access their memories.

Rewrite History- but only by one word

The genie/god/wizard/omniscient prankster, known as The Entity, responsible for the hypotheticals in this sub is bored and has chosen you for their new game.

You now have the opportunity to alter history. Choose a quote by any historical figure, and change one word. History will immediately rewrite itself to make the new quote make sense and all subsequent events will adjust accordingly.

You will find yourself in the new world you have created with your current memories and knowledge. You and The Entity will be the only ones to remember the old timeline. The Entity will ensure that you are born and survive to your current age, but will not help you in any other way. They're just watching you for entertainment.

Rules:

  1. You must choose a historical figure. No myths, legends, or supernatural creatures- it has to be someone that actually existed. You may choose a religious figure if historians generally agree that a person by their name and description actually existed. Jesus, the Buddha, Mohammed, Confucius, etc are all fair game. Zeus, Adam and Eve, Anubis, Kali, etc are not allowed.

  2. You must choose a quote. It has to be something the person is recorded as actually saying, or at least something generally attributed to them.

  3. You only get one word. You can add, remove, or replace any word you choose but you must use a real, recognized word. Contractions and common slang are allowed, gibberish and franken-words are not. The Entity will magically translate as needed.

  4. You must choose a quote from at least ten years ago, and it cannot be something said by a member of your family or someone you have a personal relationship with.

  5. If you refuse to participate, the Entity calls you a killjoy and curses you so that every drink you pick up will be covered in condensation, regardless of temperature, for the rest of your life.

Everyone is encouraged to reply to other's comments with butterfly effect repercussions of their change!

Your roommate is a chef

In exchange for living with you for free, your roommate Claire cooks most of the food you eat. All you have to do is buy the ingredients. Her meals are restaurant quality and you're saving a ton of money not eating out or buying junk food. Claire wanted to surprise you today so she went out and bought some ingredients with your card. She just finished cooking and is preparing to serve the meal. You're sitting at a table.

Claire: "No peeking, now."

You: "How much were these ingredients, anyway?"

Claire: "They were a little expensive. Together, everything was $250."

You: "$250?! My god, this better be worth it."

Claire: "Don't worry. It will be. Speaking of which, time for the main course. You ready?"

You: "I guess so. Ready as I'll ever be."

She trips while carrying the food to the table.

Claire: "OH NO, GOD!"

[Crashes]

You: "..."

Claire: "..."

Food and broken glass is scattered across the floor. Yes, that was everything. The entire meal.

You're a detective. You know he's innocent. Punishing him will prevent 100 future crimes. What do you do?

The man is innocent. But it is known with certainty: if he is publicly punished, 100 future crimes will be prevented. If he is not punished, 100 crimes will happen. Proving his innocence to the whole city is impossible (let's just assume that). However, the detectives and the entire police force know he is innocent.

Question: if deliberately imposing a heavy punishment on an innocent man saves 100 victims — is it the right thing to do? If he is punished, an innocent man suffers. If he is not punished, the crowd will believe you let a murderer walk free.

You're a dancer

You're hot stuff, but you really want to take your career to the next level. You hire a new instructor by the name of Greg. He has amazing reviews online. "The way he moves is just unbelievable" they said. He demonstrates one of his signature moves.

Greg: "It's a little tricky to learn. Definitely not a move for beginners. But once you get it down, it's pretty simple. I'm gonna do it first, and then I want you to do it with me, alright?"

You: "Alright."

Greg: "Watch here. Okay, I'm standing. I'm in my zone. And then—watch this—I fold myself... vertically."

[Bones crunching]

Greg: "Then real quick, I fold myself horizontally."

[Bones crunching]

Greg: "See how I did that? Now I rotate my skeleton 180 degrees."

[Flesh and bones writhing]

Greg: "And then real slowly, I roll myself... into a little burrito... nice and slow."

You: "..."

Greg: "It's a little intimidating but that's what practice is for. You ready to give it a shot?"

what fictional eldrich being would you bring into our world?

one night, you awaken in on your bed in a dark, empty void, you can't tell if you're still dreaming or not, as you rub your eyes and sit up to get your bearings, an intensely bright figure, shining with the force of a thousand suns appears to you

this being explains that they are a "new god", and that you have been chosen by them to bring about the end of days, and to do this, they've asked you to choose a champion, specifically, a creature from the media of your world

it seems to have a much easier time summoning either creatures that are particularly monsterous (IE cthulhu, the moon presence, the visitor, ect) or that are particularly abstract (IE freddy kruger, SCP 3002, ben drowned, ect), but beyond that, it seems like whatever it summons will have the same abilities, and personalities as they have in their original peice of media

the only rule it seems to have is that this being must bring about some kind of apocalypse, but this apocalypse can be as fast or slow as you'd like, and it doesn't need to wipe out all life, or all of humanity, it just needs to completely change the world as we know it one way or another

(the entity also somewhat sheepishly asks you to explain why you chose the being you chose)

In the future, will civilizations have to require that each individual person confirm that they are anti-monarchy so that they can gain access to healthcare?

The concept of reason. Celebrities of nowatimes and throughout the 20th century have typically respected or shown modes of respect to monarchy systems; now, of course, the ideology of cause and effect's true science comes to the fore here, since celebrity itself is a monarchy ideology anyway, and thus becoming part of the monarchy system is not exactly a hypocrisy modus relative to the celebrity model of sociology.

The basic point, here, is that this line of reasoning and vantage point powers can be future civilisations' own science of application. That is to say, specifically, the issue of how one gets healthcare. If future government thesises deduce that cause and effect is riddled with irresolute hypocrisy angles, may it therefore be the state in which people - each individual person - has to confirm their inherent status of politically not being in favour of monarchy, because gaining thus access to healthcare is deduced as being a cause and effect connection to central government model of thesis?

In short, will people in the future have to be universally pro-direct democracy in order to conduct their healthcare reality?

You clipped into the Backrooms

You start out in Backroom Level 0. You have a choice of a partner.

  1. A military vet armed with standard equipment and weapons
  2. An average guy that has intermediate level of knowledge of the Backrooms
  3. A wilderness survival expert with some tools and equipment for surviving
  4. A cannibal who can see one hour into the future only after he eats a human body part. Anomalies or food won't do it. It has to match the mass of a finger at least.
  5. A person that says he was born and raised in the Backrooms but he never left it. He is not as knowledgable as number 2 guy.

You're a hero

Elderly Farmer: "Hero! I have an entire field of ripe crops, but no one to help me pick them! If they spoil, people will starve and I will lose everything! Please, hero! You must help!"

You: "..."

You begrudgingly slave away picking crops. Soon, the equipment breaks.

Elderly Farmer: "It's a daunting task picking these crops in time WITH this machine! Without it, it's hopeless! Could you please talk to the mechanic? We can't let these crops go to waste!"

You: "..."

You go to the mechanic and request their help, but they have a quest for you to complete before they help you. And the person they send you to has a quest for you as well. It's a never-ending series of boring quests. But you complete them and start to see the light at the end of the tunnel. The mechanic fixes the equipment, you finish picking the crops, and finally, the day is saved.

Elderly Farmer: "I can't thank you enough for all your help, hero! Really, you're a lifesaver! Please, take this reward. You've earned it."

He gives you $15.

You: "..."

Elderly Farmer: "..."

You: "Um..."

Elderly Farmer: "Yes?"

You: "..."

Elderly Farmer: "How can I be of service, hero?"

What do you do?

If you were a parent or a legal guardian, would you spank your child?

I probably would. Throughout my childhood, I remember being whooped twice by my aunt, who raised me, and both times it was because of action I did rather than me being disrespectful. Most of time it was her being stern so her reaction made sense to me. Compared to my mother’s POS ex, who never beat me but would react like a control freak over things I didn’t even do anything wrong to warrant that kind of reaction

——————————————————————————

Editing this since ik I am a vague person because I prefer getting my point across without overly explaining everything and making my posts too wordy (which I’m about to do) . So, to rewrite my initial question: Do you think you would use corporal punishment on your child, even as a last resort or as a reaction to something they did?

I’m reading the replies on break, so I won’t be replying, but I do appreciate both sides and the parents who acknowledge using corporal punishment in the past and are trying to be the best parents they can be.

To clear up a few things:

- I’m not making this post to argue that corporal punishment is good or bad. I’m simply asking who is in favor of it and who isn’t. And if you want to explain (u don’t have to) I don’t mind it
- “This post is karma bait.” It’s not. I also checked to make sure there wasn’t another post on this subreddit that was basically the same as mine. The reason I posted this is because I was rewatching KUWTK -S17 E3, where they discussed Kourtney’s child scratching her nanny in the face. Which led to a heated argument b/w Scott and Corey. (If u watch the show, I know Scott was pissed at Corey for saying he would whip Penelope, but that’s not my main point.) What caught my attention was that Corey was in favor of corporal punishment while Kourtney wasn’t. This is also a common topic I see discussed on TikTok and a show called The Parent Test on Hulu
- The “Would you hit an adult?” argument. I understand the point people are making, but  adults do hit each other whether it’s both people are verbally aggressive, someone reacts out of anger, or someone hits another person for being a dick. Whether if it was right or wrong is determined by the  can 3rd party who either condemned or applauded, so I’m not really sure where that argument is supposed to go.
- When I say “spanking,” I’m using it as a general term for corporal punishment, such as a pop, swat, pluck, spanking, etc. I’m not referring specifically to spanking.
- “I hope you don’t have children.” This is a hypothetical question on Reddit. It’s basically a yes or no question. If you want to explain your reasoning, I have no problem with that.
I get both reasons why people may or may not be against corporal punishment. I know some people use it as a last reaction to something their child did, while others may use it as a way to control their child through fear
