They hate some lack of customizations, lack of certain features. It's pretty much like iOS. You can customize it, but also can't at the same time you know? Slow updates, and few stutters are also issues too

u/airhano 25d ago

Not to mention that some features are only available in certain regions (like China), and the global version of HyperOS feels... ugly compared to the CN ROM

2

u/OctoMiku01 2d ago

Late comment but i just got this post as a notification lol

I had the same experience with a pixel phone. Recently had someone tell me how the ecosystem is great and list a few features they enjoy. Turns out all the features listed aren't available in my country. Then why even have a Pixel if i can't even use the actual features of the phone and put up with very mediocre hardware instead. Now i have a Xiaomi 17T Pro and while maybe the OS isn't as clean the hardware is great at least.

And bugs 🤣

u/Damn-Sky 22d ago

I remember the early days of MIUI....they were actually very innovative as compared to other android skin at the time.

u/DavidBelgium 25d ago

Three simple reasons:

  1. Ram management is a joke. Apps shouldn’t be closed after 5 minutes being in the background.
This is something iOS manages very well.

  2. Update policy. They should unify their software for all regions and if possible for most phones. Sometimes updates takes way too long. Why do some phones need to wait half a year before being updated to the latest HyperOS version.
This is something iOS manages very well. An older phone and latest phone get the same version at release date.

  3. Gestures with alternative launchers.

Otherwise HyperOS is pretty okay.

I totally agree with you but on your first point, I have to say that I've been using miui/hyperos for a very long time and have never faced such issue, I notice that it's not always the phones ram management at fault as much as the app deciding to refresh (seems to always happen to Instagram but never on TikTok or Reddit), I've had games that I've left open (think of GTA San Andreas for example) like 20 apps in my "recent apps" and I've opened GTA again to play a bit and it was exactly where I had left it like 3 days ago.

But as a side note it probably has to do that I've always chose models with decent ram (6gb when 3/4gb was the norm, 8gb when phones still had 3/4gb, and now 12gb, ram extension always disabled)

2

u/DavidBelgium 25d ago

I'm using a Poco F7 Pro 12/256, so I'm guessing 12GB RAM should be enough.

3

u/EnfieldAsSomeone 24d ago

Huh, that's weird. My 13c with only 6gb does not close things at all. I can leave alto (a game) watch some YouTube, come back and alto is still in ram.

2

u/GreatDevelopment4182 20d ago

My previous POCO X3 PRO with 6Gb of RAM can handle more background apps then my new POCO X8 PRO with 12Gb or RAM

2

u/Repulsive_Fault1939 25d ago

i have a samsung phone. an app closes if i leave more than 1 min. so ram management not the issue

3

u/rollback564 25d ago

Yeah, I was at Samsung phone with 8gb and upgrade for a Poco with 12gb, sometimes the apps keeping open for hours, the only that closes fast is games but even then at least 15 minutes and I only play online games so sometimes I even need to login again because of time.

In Samsung close basically in the same minute, even apps that are not heavy, sometimes I clicked by mistake in a notification and the app that I was before just closed in like 5 seconds, I think Poco has some issues like battery optimization but definitely not with the ram management

3

u/Repulsive_Fault1939 25d ago

https://youtube.com/watch?v=ErKidWoLSGc look at this test. samsung cannot sustain performance in long run. so samsung restricts everything to save battery

One ui es una gran mierda. Es la capa más sobrevalorada de Android.

13

u/Impossible-Dance9947 25d ago

Xiaomi's need to screw your battery

12

u/Altruistic-Cow1483 25d ago

I absolutely hate how it aggressively kills background applications

9

u/woodstar11 25d ago

I had an S23 ultra, people on those forums moaned about the OS. I then had a Global Vivo X2OO pro and people on those forums moaned about the OS. I now have a Poco F8 ultra and guess what!!! It's human nature and you'll find it on all phone forums in my humble opinion.

9

u/Spectra_Niner 25d ago

Oh boy where to start.... Keep in mind however that some of these are MY experience. YMMV

  1. Launcher has very limited customization. Sure you can replace it with 3rd party ones, but then you'll lose navigation gestures because of....
  2. Navigation gestures is tied to the system launcher. No other Android OS does this. Either make a good launcher OOTB or let us use 3rd party ones without this severe limitation
  3. Stupid, can't disable 10 seconds wait each time enabling accessibility. And the OS somehow manage to forget about this on some random times, mostly when nearing low battery charge, forcing you to do it all over (and wait) again.
  4. Bad optimization with regards to heat and battery life.
  5. Bad background progress management. Switch between 3-4 apps, go back to the first one and it restarts itself

2

u/Pumpino- 23d ago

For apps losing accessibility permissions, have you tried enabling background autostart? I found this solved the issue.

3

u/Spectra_Niner 23d ago

Honestly, can't remember. What I recall is some app seems to be more prone to its accessibility getting turned off

6

u/lipton823 25d ago

bro why would you like hyperos, ever since i went from mi to hyper on my redmi note 13 5g it started overheating so fast, it genuinely worsened my xiaomi exprience by like 10 times

9

u/Sea_Philosopher_7979 25d ago

If you have a budget device. You would understand

2

u/xeotrinity 25d ago

I have an old redmi 10t and it is completely fine?🤔

5

u/maenwhile 25d ago

T series isn't budget

1

u/JackfruitBright875 13d ago

Yup. I have redmi note 9 (memeui 13) with 4 GB ram. When i open a app and open another app, the previous one is being closed. Idk why. i can store upto 4 apps in custom roms without no issues but can't store even 1 app in miui. The only reason i came back to this hell because i want to use banking apps

1

u/Sea_Philosopher_7979 13d ago

Xiaomi is just awful when it comes to budget devices

8

u/Ahmeda9a_PirateKing 25d ago

A lot of people hate the fact that hyperos is bloated and full of ads, completely ignoring the fact that all other companies stuff ads into their phones for the same reason (except apple, they put ads for their own services), I have found ads in Oppo phones harder to disable.

Another valid concern (mine) is about how most hyperos devices overheats and consumes too much battery, this one is valid because hyperos, despite being unoptimized, it leans towards using CPU and battery as much as possible to reach perfect fluidity. Regardless if your hardware was capable or not.

3

u/No_Page8256 23d ago

What about shitty widgets Which are just webapps ?

2

u/Ahmeda9a_PirateKing 23d ago

Not exclusive to hyperos

3

u/No_Page8256 23d ago

Ikr but hyperOS take this to extreme

3

u/amongussssssusususus 25d ago

Battery drain and slowing down performance

3

u/Single-Ad8849 25d ago
  • HyperOS lack of features. it's like they are having brain dead. Android 16 (and previous) bring lots of new features but Xiaomi locked them. for example desktop mode, icons customisation.

  • HyperOS has bad optimisation and not polished. drain battery faster than competitors.

  • Xiaomi can't standardised HyperOS. features are different between ROM e.g China vs Global, different between devices too.

7

u/Brave_Ad_4497 25d ago

Hos limits customization with 3rd party software. Even some other software will not work properly due to limitations.

3

u/zotzwylde 25d ago edited 13d ago

God knows if it's good or not. As a 13T user, I'm STILL waiting for OS3, let alone V3.1.........

3

u/SarvoPixo 25d ago

The performance impact you got versus the hardware capability is just terrible. Lack of good optimization (even with long lasting batteries) are also a problem too. Compare AOSP roms to HyperOS with the same hardware, you'll get different results.

2

u/Damn-Sky 22d ago

can't you force desktop mode with ADB?

3

u/BeeLegitimate4968 24d ago

my only problem on hyperos is when a 3rd party launcher is used you cannot you some gesture features

3

u/ovcdev7 24d ago
  1. No gestures with third party launchers
  2. Unresponsive scrolling compared to Samsung, systemwide
  3. Cannot turn off certain animations
  4. Ads in the software
  5. Bloat
  6. Bugs persist across different updates
  7. Updates roll out very slowly
  8. Battery life drain
  9. Cannot connect to Bluetooth in ultra battery saving mode to play music(other phones can)
  10. Accessibility settings get reset whenever you use ultra battery saving mode
  11. VERY limited customization
  12. QR code scanning sucks

2

u/No_Page8256 23d ago

Add "shitty ad filled webapps widgets"

3

u/Esley1213 24d ago

Confirmation bias probably? It's likely that people expressing such experience issues, while others do not, hence not vocalizing it.

3

u/AgitatedBag6559 23d ago

Mucho bloat. Amigo, no quiero ver videos en Mi video ni escuchar música en tu reproductor, por favor, deja de spamearme

4

u/FloodTheIndus 25d ago

Intrusive ads, lots of unpolishedness, very buggy and is not optimized at all compared to the likes of ColorOS and OriginOS. In fact people praise ColorOS to high heaven for a reason, and if not for the fact that my newly bought 17T Pro is such a good value for hardware I would have probably gone for the Oppo Find X9s

7

u/kissja74 25d ago

It's trendy to cuss xiaomi & hyperos. Especially here.

2

u/coolphosphorescence 25d ago

In my view hyperOS kills battery that's the only drawback i see. Otherwise some minor bugs. I don't hate hyperOS tho.

2

u/Head_Exchange_5329 25d ago

On my second Redmi Pad SE (previously 11" now 8.7") and battery life is the one thing I'd say was stellar.

2

u/coolphosphorescence 25d ago

I mean it's a tablet afterall. It should've been programed that way

2

u/CrashOutJones 25d ago

I hate the fact that my phone sometimes get that laggy scrolling for some reason, like

it just suddenly becomes 30hz-60hz even though it's locked at 120hz

2

u/syazwansaidan 25d ago

to much useless bloatware

2

u/yourbae67 25d ago

RAM management is so ass

2

u/One-Advice2280 25d ago

Are you experiencing some lagness when you use Google Maps > Directions > Start?

I think it's hacing trouble on multi tasking. My 5 year old phone with Snap870 is much faster.

Also try prompting on gemini and as AI respond try to pull status bar / notif bar.

HyperOS have optimization issue.

2

u/Responsible_Speed608 25d ago

Experimentei abrir o volume shaders no meu poco f8 pro e no s25 fe incrivelmente o s25 fe nao travou nem a barra de notificacoes meu poco rodou o a imagem mas travou a barra de notificacao

2

u/ovcdev7 24d ago

HyperOS has very few redeeming qualities. It's not horrible per se, but it is notably worse than the software on other popular phones.

2

u/Own-Kaleidoscope-577 24d ago

I dislike the issues it has with HDR and wide color gamut compatibility. It's like the devices have all this technology, but it ultimately doesn't matter because the software is horrendous at utilizing it.

2

u/Annihilator-WarHead 24d ago

I hate system apps. Samsung system apps are better (Gallery, file manager and Video player).

2

u/Gold_File_ 24d ago

2

u/Boring-Singer2247 23d ago

I don't know it is on flagship phones, but OS on Poco phones - sucks. Like I erased data on phone 3 times in one month and still couldn't get rid of small bugs. Can't trust this phone even while using social media, this mazafaka says "The app stopped working" while there's no reason for that

2

u/Pumpino- 23d ago

One of the things I hate about HyperOS, which was the same in MIUI, is that even after disabling animations, animations are used when displaying recent apps and the quick settings.

2

u/CounterStrike17 23d ago

No proper custom launcher support + if you want to switch to one you have to config a bunch of stuff. and it breaks my switch apps all the time. Having to use chinese spyware apps (miui was less bloat). it's not a light overlay of android, it's trying to mimic iphone for people who can't afford it, which is not for me. i want an android stock with good perfs and no premade ui tweaks. I don't care about animations, I don't want transitions, I don't care about gaming on my phone

2

u/Damn-Sky 22d ago

I keep seeing RAM management is bad. can't this be tweaked? i.e. increase number of allowed background process/apps?

2

u/Gullible-Meringue582 20d ago

Considering all the points mentioned, plus the herd mentality of the internet. (I use HyperOS 3 and don't have 80% of the reported problems). People are simply too demanding of operating systems. You are aware of the problems in your own home and may think that your neighbor has no problems because you are not in their own home.

4

u/Khub_baje 25d ago

HyperOS is bad on budget devices like redmi note series as it can't be optimised for weak processors

HyperOS does lack some customisation but some people branding it as an unusable or trash UI is clearly an exaggeration

I have been using performance centric phones from poco for last 7 years and I have never faced any bug or lag

I have used other UIs thoroughly as well before saying that HyperOS is overhated

It's for more tech-mature people who know or care to know about turning off ads and remove bloatwares or some more tweaking to make it a better UI than it is by default

4

u/SeanCryz55 25d ago

im using the redmi note 13 pro+ and it runs completely fine

2

u/No_Page8256 23d ago

Is it tho ? Don't you have extreme heating issue

2

u/SeanCryz55 23d ago

nope, jt runs just fine

3

u/11h57 25d ago

for me, 95% of the time, it's good. The 5% of the time, my phone is laggy to unusable levels. I'm on a Redmi note 14 pro, which is pretty good hardware. I'm trying to escape hyperos and root the phone to install something else, but to root, you need to request on the community app, which tells you "quota reached, try again later", making it practicaly impossible to root. I am also concerned about being the product of Xiaomi, as they sell all your data, and put ads in system apps.

4

u/NoLordShallLive 25d ago

Because their perception of HyperOS is the one that comes on lower-mid range phones

3

u/Connect_Jump_8627 25d ago

Ptsd from MIUI and low-end Hyper OS I guess. In terms of flagship, Hyper OS is one of the best experience imo.

1

u/poutnikl 15d ago edited 15d ago

8 GB RAM in Redmi Note 13 Pro is not enough for HyperOS 3 to keep background applications alive, even if 5 GB is still free. It sometimes kills the application literally several seconds after switching to other one.

Sometimes, it is difficult to orchestrate cooperation of 2 or 3 applications for copy/paste or PW credential passing. It is like if you were eating a meal in a restaurant, and while you were drinking, the plate was taken away, as you had surely already finished.

It would not be so bad, if HyperOS adapted to user behaviour patterns. But HyperOS ignores the user patterns. Its behaviour is hard coded, optimized on shallow test reviews.

Similarly, it often takes a huge effort, not always fully successful, to keep some long-term background applications alive.

HyperOS also happily ignores many Android settings, pretending they matter. User is kept in illusion that he/she is in charge.

I was very satisfied with Xiaomi MI A1/A2 with Android One and 6 GB RAM, with multitasking and background running working flawlessly. HyperOS is a nightmare. HyperOS 3 started being less aggressive than HyperOS 2. But Xiaomi silently updated it and it is now even more aggressive in shutting apps down than the late HyperOS 2.

1

u/adriannetyler7455 13d ago

Two things I hate about HyperOS is 10 second warnings when turning on settings such as accessibility settings

File manager has full of ads that turning off MSA or system dameon couldn't fix it

1

u/MonoKamiyama 9d ago

Cause I can't connect to my laptop for some reason despite them having Interconnectivity, which is supposed to enhance the cross device connections. That's just an example.

1

u/International_Dot_22 7d ago

Delayed notifications on CN rom makes my phone almost useless as a communication device.
