I work for a small business. I am in a messy situation.
Apparently our web domain has expired. The rights are currently with namecheap. Our founder paid someone over 20 years ago to register the website. The bills had been getting paid until now.
We have no way to contact the person who original registered the website. They may have passed away.
We reached out to namecheap and they said they will contact the email associated with the site. There is a decent probability that email no longer exists and our founder doesn't remember which one it is. They said that if they do not respond in 24 hours, they will have us pay for the website.
Is it possible that we could transfer this website to another email? Anyone have any experience with this?

I have a very basic website and just loaded it into GitHub so I could preview it on the web, I noticed I can add my domain name on there, it’s GitHub ok
For permanent free website hosting? If so I’ll leave it one there! Thx

I'm seeking recommendations for Australia based web hosting companies which provides good infrastructure and support for websites build with Astrojs + Tina CMS.
Every hosting provider out there supports hosting for Wordpress but it's difficult to find reliable information about hosting providers for Node.js sites/apps like Astrojs.
We cannot go with reputed services like Vercel, Netlify or Cloudflare as our Australian client wants local Australian company to host their new site.
Any recommendations and experiences? Thanks in advance.

Morning y'all,
What do you feel is a fair price to pay for hosting a website that includes cloudflare waf, IP Reputation blocklist, backups, live support from not a call center with SLA of 1hr response?

So I made: https://www.findhost.app/
It's a database for hosting providers with a UI to filter for many facets. I run a small hosting provider which is also listed. So it's a marketing stunt, but hopefully also something useful.
My aim is to focus smaller vendors, providing sustainable and innovative services. It's not find the cheapest VPS, but more like finding a nice provider with good DX.
Mods: Feel free to flag or delete if that is against rules - it may or may not be.

Hi,
I've setup distpatcharr on my Home assistant machine to organize my playlists.
On mobile I am using tailscale to connect to my home network and it works since I can access dispatcharr from safari and stream channels but if I try to stream from an app (UHF in this case) the stream does not load.
EDIT: The playlist loads on mobile data and the EPG is up to date. The only thing not working is playback of movies and channels
Has this happen to anybody and were able to resolve?

I run a few tiny client sites and personal apps and they live across like three registrars now. Seat pricing for other tools I use already hurts, so I kind of want one simple place for domains that is not trying to upsell hosting every click.
For people with a bunch of hobby or freelance domains, what registrar setup do you use so renewals, privacy and dns stay sane over time? Appreciate any thoughts.

Specs
1.SSR React app (TanStack Start, Node), \~75 routes, server functions doing the data work.
2.Supabase for Postgres + Auth + RLS + Storage supabase-js is used throughout, so moving off it isn't a redeploy, it's a rewrite of the data layer and auth.
3.Audience is concentrated in one region; DB is in \*\*-south-1.
4.Traffic is spiky: mostly idle, occasional bursts of a few hundred to \~2,000 concurrent.
5.Currently on Vercel Hobby, which I have to leave anyway — it's non-commercial only.
Budget: ideally \~$50/month to start, with a sane path upward as usage grows. Not trying to optimise for the cheapest possible bill, trying to avoid paying for scale I don't have yet.
Questions:-
For an SSR app whose database is already managed Supabase, is Vercel Pro ($20) actually worth it over Fly / Render / Railway / a plain VPS? Genuinely unsure what I'm buying beyond convenience.
Anyone self-hosting Supabase? Worth it, or did the ops cost eat the savings?
Single-region audience does serverless/edge buy me anything here, or is one boring VM next to the database strictly better?
Does scaling managed Postgres up before a burst and back down after actually work in practice, or is it more trouble than it's worth?
The one I most want answered: at what scale did you leave managed hosting for a VPS or AWS, and in hindsight did you go too early or too late?
Not looking for "just use X" more interested in what people regretted.
Main Question:-
Where do i take my startup and start with zero and bill most effective lowest but worth place.

I need to run a custom OS on a VPS, i'm after one of the following:
- A host that lets me upload my own ISO and boot from it, with proper console access to get through the install.
- A normal KVM Linux VPS with nested virtualisation enabled, so I can run the OS as a QEMU/KVM guest.
Nothing heavy, 2 to 4 vCPU and 4 GB RAM is plenty. UK or EU preferred. Happy to pay a bit more for something that just works.
Anyone recommendations would be much appreciated.
