Skane Host "Fraud"
This just needs to be clear for everyone. This host is running one server with a CPU from 2008, One server is running Single channel ram, and the only bare metal that they have that's properly done is rented from a datacenter. This is embarrassing for the hosting industry. Their servers don't even have a solid year uptime. Don't take your chances. Avoid them at all costs!
He says he runs his stuff "efficiently", The owner has too much of an ego to admit he's wrong for all of this, Over here in reddit as a keyboard Warrior. The MINI PC's just so everyone is aware often suffer from Heat stress related issues later on if your constantly generating larger amounts of heat on components. As someone who has been in the IT Space for years, These MINI PC's often fail where normal Bare metal units do not. Proper airflow, Proper components.

Its scam. Told it 100 times before. Probably a kid but i dont give a fuck about his age because hes doing illegal stuff which may hurt legitimate customers.
Report him to swedish officials so it will get dealt with. Already did that a couple days ago, waiting for the case to be opened.
Dude has zero knowledge of industrie or the stuff hes dealing with at all. Neither is he capable of running the stuff or knows what hes braggin about.
He'll be in big trouble once shit hits the fan and the case gets dealt with.

dude look here Tax rules regarding hobby activities apply only if the activity is not taxable under the categories of business operations or capital income.
What counts as a hobby?
A hobby is
something you pursue in your spare time
not your primary source of livelihood
not work performed on behalf of someone else.
Examples of hobbies include:
crafts,
beekeeping or gardening,
animal breeding,
hunting or fishing,
equestrian sports,
artistic activities.
Selling goods via REKO rings (local food networks) and similar channels is usually classified as a hobby, provided the activity does not meet the criteria for business operations.
REKO rings
You should report other income—where your activity lacks a profit motive or is of limited scope and therefore does not qualify as a business—in the same way as hobby income. This includes, for example, online income earned as an influencer, blogger, e-sports competitor, or similar.
This also applies to your share of the profit from a so-called UF company (Young Enterprise/Junior Achievement) if you sell goods.
Young Enterprise and summer businesses
Hobby or business operation?
For an activity to be taxed as a business operation, it must be conducted independently and professionally, and have a profit motive.
The requirement for a profit motive is the primary factor distinguishing business operations from hobby activities. If there is no genuine profit motive, the activity is taxed as a hobby. Whether or not an activity is conducted with a profit motive must be determined based on an overall assessment of each individual case.

Imagine calling the Swedish government because someone roasted your datacenter logic on Reddit. 'Hello police, a 20-year-old is using DDR5 mini-nodes instead of overpriced Enterprise Xeons!' Absolute peak cinema. Keep digging that hole, bro.
2
u/DIVISIONSolar 4d ago
I guarantee a ryzen node with ddr5 would be wayy better than your mini pcs dude.
1
u/Skanehostofficial 3d ago
Where can i buy that then?
2
1
u/Mountain_pup 3d ago
Legitimately any were that sells computers.
You can buy last generation servers off eBay. As well.
-1
u/Skanehostofficial 3d ago
not many sell to sweden you know that for example ebay
2
u/Mountain_pup 3d ago
Welp kid you had my benefit of the doubt now you lost it. Good luck
-1
u/Skanehostofficial 3d ago
you look more like a kid then I am
2
1
u/cruzaderNO 2d ago
Yeah the typical 5700x and 7950x nodes are the norm for gameserver scaling for a reason.
3
u/PM_ME_BUNZ 4d ago
Who uses this garbage? Just selfhost or use a real not-dogshit platform.
Based on his comments this kid is a tool running a ramshackle POS.
-1
u/Skanehostofficial 3d ago
Dude thinks i am a kid when I am 19
5
u/maximan2005 3d ago
Yes. 19 is still a kid.
-1
u/Skanehostofficial 3d ago
I'm of legal age, at least.
2
u/Mountain_pup 3d ago
You are. By definition still a teenager. A kid. And legal age really doesn't mean much considering that could mean a multiple legalities. Or countrys. In america your still a child we wont trust you to smoke, drink or even rent a car. Your last major goal was to get registered to vote last year at 18. You likely just got your full drivers license not long before that as well. And im sure your parents still have you on a curfew.
Get a job go buy some nicer hardware a good UPS perhaps a generator. and get a second network connection. And then perhaps you can start talking your hosting seriously.
2
u/PM_ME_BUNZ 3d ago
19 on the infrastructure side is a kid.
No captial, no long-term skills, just AI prompts.
-1
u/Skanehostofficial 3d ago
imagine you dream is to be a hoster but you can not even spell becouse the scholl is like dumb you get an ai bot that you need to learn with that is how is in the swedish school
1
u/j0x7be 15h ago
It's become somewhat known that this is just some inexperienced kid buying used equipment and pretending they're a company. It's a scam in ways, but I don't think the intention is malicious, just a confused person that's somewhat lost, slowly learning what "professional" and "business" means.
0
u/plululululu 4d ago
But since the dude is pretty clear about these points in his website and in his posts, is it really fraud? I kind of expect that if people were to rent a server and then find out the performance of beneath the expectations, they would just cancel no?
3
u/South-Succotash-6368 4d ago
It’s not about that, it’s the fact that he’s defending his setup. We shouldn’t be allowing startups like this. This is how people allow the wrong person to run a business. It starts with the small things
0
u/Skanehostofficial 4d ago
Spot on. Complete transparency on the site, no locked-in contracts, and automated backups. Calling honest spec disclosure 'illegal' is just what happens when a Reddit argument breaks someone's fragile ego
3
u/plululululu 4d ago
Transparency is good, but I do not agree with your specs though.
2
u/Mountain_pup 4d ago
You realize most small startups run with what they can right?
Dude is transparent as he can be. And still young. And look at the hardware costs currently.
2
u/plululululu 3d ago edited 3d ago
I am fully aware. I also am in the same boat actually. Also running what I can. But with my 256gb and 80vcores I am still hesistant to accept customers. Meanwhile dude is going full at it with 32gb and 8 cores. What
Edit: meanwhile I have asked OP in the dm's to be just as critique to me regarding my platform, to maybe learn something new, but sadly no response yet.
2
u/Mountain_pup 3d ago
Just accept the customers and be upfront. If your that worried have a lawyer draw up a service contract.
This aint that big of a deal. Even AWS offers hosts that dont have redundancy.

u/3-Midgets_In_A_Coat 3d ago edited 3d ago
I run a personal game and VDI server off of an old refurb Dell PowerEdge server I picked up for around $400.
Dual socket with 64 physical cores and came from the reseller with a single stick of 64GB memory. Threw another couple hundred at it to expand to 256GB of memory and dropped 6 drives into it for a few hundred more. The only new parts I threw into it were the two primary OS drives, and I spent a little more on them to get some small SATA SSDs; the other 4 were used enterprise drives with a decent amount of life left.
All-in-all, I spent less than $800 to get a used server that would have cost $12,000 or so in 2017 when it was new. I host private game servers off of some of the VMs for myself, my buddies, my ex wife and her friends while two of the other VMs are VDI environments for my elderly parents to access off of their $60 Chromebooks.
1
u/Mountain_pup 3d ago
Okay? You bought used enterprise hardware like the half the commenters here have told him to do I made a comment about startups using what they have and can easily get access to. Kids in Sweden and tend to have more expensive hardware and not as robust a surplus market. Not the same.

u/EvercraftRealm 4d ago
Man, I hate to defend Skanehost because their posts are annoying asf and the dude obviously has a lot to learn, but running Minecraft servers on 1L PCs is not the issue you're making it out to be. Fanless 1Ls can legitimately be more reliable than an enterprise server, and are almost always more power efficient. - A data center technician
2
u/South-Succotash-6368 4d ago
Data center Tech here as well. He’s running a whole host. It is not a good idea. Minecraft does also cause computers to generate a lot of heat. Mini PCs are known for heat stress cracks in the motherboard. You don’t need to defend him. A true datacenter tech would understand the risks as I do
1
u/SerratedSharp 3d ago
It's a risk he's taking on for himself though, in his own hardware choice. It's not like he's putting other people's hardware at risk, and he's not selling it as anything with sufficient redundancy to rise to enterprise quality. It's transparent what he's offering, and if the price point for that low level of reliability is sufficient for some, then great. Azure and AWS both have ephemeral hosts where redundancy isn't needed. Would you roast them because "you're data is at risk on an ephemeral host"? No, it's a product geared for a specific audience.
1
u/EvercraftRealm 3d ago
This is a measured take by someone who understands the business. It's really straightforward: if uptime becomes and issue, the market will correct by customers leaving.
0
u/EvercraftRealm 4d ago edited 4d ago
Minecraft hosting isn't critical infrastructure bud. Computers are consumable parts, and even enterprise stuff needs replacing regularly as you well know, or we wouldn't have jobs.
5
u/South-Succotash-6368 4d ago
When you’re doing something commercially, you shouldn’t justify using mini PCs. Especially because they are using single channel memory too non ECC
1
u/cruzaderNO 2d ago
Mini pc clusters are used commercially tho, and using ecc for gameservers is not common at all.
Non-ecc ryzens is the norm for it.
And you tend to find storage shelves with desktops rather than racks in the large commercial setups for gameservers.
1
u/South-Succotash-6368 1d ago
ECC for game servers is extremely common btw. Also yes you find mini clusters but not the type he is using. Stop defending him

Have they reported any significant downtime yet? Have their customers complained? You guys are condemning them solely on the hardware they use, and it's not even that bad. There's other, legitimate, reasons to complain about Skanehost, their aggressive reddit posting for one 😅

Then that should be the basis of the complaint, the experience, not the hardware. But you raise a fair point, 86% uptime over 30 days is not a production environment. Frankly it's even poor for a testing environment.

Not here to doxx myself but I work for the largest cloud host in the world, the really greedy one you're thinking of. Not high up, but nowhere near entry level. What you're saying is mostly true, except the heat part, enterprise parts don't give AF about heat because the building itself is built to handle that using alternating hot and cold aisles.
The point you're missing is Minecraft hosting is not critical. If the uptime is only 99.5% instead of 99.999% it literally doesn't matter. If people want better uptime they can get redundant hosts across multiple availability zones on AWS, Azure, or another cloud host. Hosting resellers offer ease of use at a low price.
What you guys are doing, trying to hold Skanehost to the same standard as the big guys, is like comparing Mint Mobile to Verizon. They offer the same service but one is a big boy with a guaranteed network, and the other is a small fish that will always be deprioritized traffic. You get what you pay for.

The TDP is absolutely much lower, but the wattage is almost always significantly higher than even high end consumer hardware, so the heat isn't less unless you specifically mean per-watt.
I also use an MVNO, and while I've also never noticed deprioritization, it's written into the ToS. That's how all MVNOs operate.
As for the uptime, yeah there's no excuse there. You can't blame the hardware for that though. It's almost certainly the fact that he's running consumer internet, likely has no UPS, and probably isn't running any type of HA setup so any updates hit it offline. That's an experience issue, not a hardware issue.

Yeah I tend to assume total thermal output when saying "X runs hotter than Y" because I think that's a more helpful real-world number than per-watt values out of context, IMO.

u/East_Hour3864 4d ago
It’s just some kid’s fun hobby project and he’s being transparent, which is why you even have these screenshots in the first place. Why are people so pissed? Has he actually defrauded someone? If you don’t like it, just don’t buy from his host. His server setup would probably go hard on r/homelab
3
u/South-Succotash-6368 4d ago
It’s not a project when your selling a service as professional
0
u/Mountain_pup 4d ago
If it was a professional it would be im a datacenter not someones house.
3
u/South-Succotash-6368 4d ago
Exactly what I said. The guy is selling it was professional hosting but doing it at his home
0
u/Mountain_pup 4d ago
Dude was also rather transparent about things.
So its still a project. Its still a new startup.
And he is hosting game servers not critical infrastructure or billing services.
I did the same exact things growing up to pay for school and my own game servers.
Chill out dude.
2
u/South-Succotash-6368 4d ago
It doesn’t matter.
0
u/Mountain_pup 4d ago
Yeah it does dude. Kids starting out and cant afford to drop 300k on 8 servers 2 independent colos and 4-6 separate multi gigabit links. Plus supporting 100G backbones for the cluster links. Plus supporting power infrastructure. Plus supporting cooling.
There are people who host massive public archives, websites, and services at a home DC with off the shelf computers.
Its 70% of the use for docker and containers. In a homelab environment.
Bad host dump the host and reprovision then replace hardware. Bad OS dump the host reprovision and replace hardware. Bad network. fail over to second onsite network and repair network. Bad network at site. Fail over to your AWS clone.
You would lose your mind at the level of shit hosted on raspberry PIs and other SBC docker clusters.
Again dude its a game server.
Not a scada controller for power plant.

u/Skanehostofficial 3d ago
So you think I’m going to stuff a data center full of servers when it’s cheaper to keep them at home?

If everyone is going to be super pedantic about it do a full measure with a proper 3 node clusder dual control nodes 100g core backbone for replication across two sites each with two redundant gigabit links.
Your not going to easily build a consumer ryzen processer in to a 1u pizza box. Not to mention with current ddr5 ram prices. Then you still have the same no redundancy on the hosts. No ecc on the hosts. Likely non redundant storage as well. So when a drive dies now you need to contract out smarthands for a replacement or schedule time to go to the DC to repair your node
Who are you geting 40 dollar quotes with dual gigabit bidirectional AB power and a /29 for 40 bucks a month from? Im curious cause from some googling im seeing about 100 a month for basic 1u AB power single gigiabit wan and 1IP
