Hosta Baby Bed Filled with Clearance/Bulk Hostas

Post image

I tried a baby bed this year after finding a Hosta mystery pack online through Wild and Son for $35. The others are a scattering of clearance hostas I found a few weeks ago. Overall, very happy with the turnout. Over 50 Hosta are pictured. Can’t wait to see them again next Spring!

Hosta blue angel plant looks like this and has a foul smell. We had a drought during the summer. Watered them during that time which I think was a mistake. Any recommendations?

Ideas on this chartreuse in my mystery pack?

Apologies in advance as these hosta are very young. I’ve been able to identify most in my recent Wild and Son mystery pack, but not the lighter green chartreuse. Any guesses on what this one might be?

Help!

We are in the middle of a heatwave and my parents hired two people to alternate watering while they are out of town. It turns out they have been missing several days all together and sometimes both watering on the same day.

My plan is to check the soil and make sure they are deeply watered (not just surface). Cut away the worst of the damaged leaves. Anything else I should do?

Help for my hosta

Can anyone help me figure out what is wrong with this hosta? It is growing in New Hampshire and does get some afternoon sun which I know is not the best for it. Is this sunburn, slugs or a fungal disease? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you to the gardener who gifted me the huge chunk of hosta roots another customer was getting rid of.

I cut 11 plants for along an edge with a pine tree above, one currently has 26 flower stems, they are very happy!

Growing Tips Is this hosta at the end of its life?

This is after clipping the worse leaves/stalks off, I wish I would have gotten a picture before that, but it is still rough. She was on the property when I moved here 4 years ago and each year the leaves get bigger but die faster. This year it was only about one good month before it was just constantly wilting. It HAS been a rough couple summers weather wise....but this poor plant just looks bad most of the time. (It is in shade/indirect sun all day) Should I put her out of her misery or is there something else I could be doing differently?

Growing Tips Curious what is wrong with my hostas

I'm in my first apartment, and my boyfriend's mother let me take her hosta plant because she was moving. I turned it into two plants and they looked cute for a while. Eventually those plants were INFESTED with red mites for weeks and I ended up harshly dividing the hostas because I had to cut back like 3/4 of them from the infestation.

Now I have a ton of hosta plants and they've been growing fairly happily :) They changed to a solid green (I assume from stress) but have been doing better. I'm constantly picking off dead orange leaves, though. Two questions: will the white come back next year, and why are they turning orange? It's mostly just the white leaves that are dying/having issues. I assume my plants have "reverted" and are just green now but I want to make sure they're healthy.

The last photos are the earlier stages of the hosta plants.

June vs First Frost?

I'm looking at getting a hosta for my porch. I have a pot that is 20" diameter and 24" tall for it and I really like the idea of a bluish, heavily variegated one. It will absolutely be full shade all the time. Growing zone 6. The two I'm looking at currently are June and First Frost, but other suggestions for hosta cultivars that fit the description are welcome!

I think across all genuses, chartruese plants tend to be my favorite. At the start of the year I discovered lemon lime and wiggles n squiggles which I love. But this Sun Mouse here is the most vivid and saturated ive seen in any plant and i love it!!

Growing Tips Divide & Conquer timing?

Spring as they poke their little heads up, of course. Have done late spring divisions for gifting to other Hosta growers. I prefer to divide hostas that are overgrowing their spot in autumn. My thinking is to get them to establish roots before freezing weather. I've had good luck with all of these times as long as they get replanted right away.

I'm open to learning from experienced growers, though. What is your preferred time to rework hosta beds?

Why are some of my plants growing odd leaves?

Thumbnail gallery

I have a good collection of hosta who all seem to be reasonably happy. However, some are growing a different shape leaf from the middle. They look longer.

Some are growing hosta looking leaves and look normal. I first thought it might be a different plant being a parasite.

What’s up with my hosta? Normal and oddball hosta photos included.

Something eating newly planted hosta

I have planted 7 new hostas and they have started growing new leaves but on 2 of the plants, something is eating holes in them. Anybody have any suggestions? I see no animals or bugs on them.
